Rainworth Seafoods & Take Away is a favourite amongst locals. Who would think that amid the leafy…read moresurrounds of the inner west, you'd find succulent, perfectly salted sea treats? The deep fried 'delicacies' presented in the long fridges look good enough to eat while raw. They keep their display stocks looking plump and plentiful. I don't think I've ogled a dim sim quite like I have while at Rainworth Seafoods. The fish is fantastic. Your fish will cost you between $4- $8 depending on what you get. You can get it crumbed, battered or grilled (GRILLED YAY!). Health nuts who are on a bit of an indulgent splurge will be happy to know that they only use cholesterol free cooking oil. They've got your seriously old school classics like chiko rolls ($2.40), battered sav ($2.40), pineapple fritters ($1.20), and crumbed sausage ($2.40) up for grabs. Now, I don't know exactly what a 'seafood bite' is (6 for $4.50), but I'm sure if the folks at Rainworth Seafoods cook it, it would be a tasty explosion. I will finish on the obligatory rating of the fat bombs (chips). The minimum is $2.50, and that's a generous serving.

Look, I don't often dole out 5 stars but my only fault with Rainworth Seafoods is I no longer live…read morearound the corner. The fish is fresh and even better, freshly cooked, the chips are awesome and you won't spend $50 to feed every one (which is the shocking reality at a lot of fish and chip shops these days). If you're lucky enough to be a local I have to assume this is already your local chippy, otherwise you are seriously missing out.

But standing in the kitchen of The Fishery, being shown how to make gravlax with a side of freshly-flown-in -that-morning salmon, I learnt that stark fact and began reconsidering the choices we make each and every day about where we buy our food and produce from. I used to live in ridiculously easy walking distance from The Fishery and would often pass it each day on my way home from work or to and from the gym. It was so easy to pop in, pick up a few fillets of fish for dinner that evening and have a moderately smug grin on your face knowing you had bought local and two, purchased fresh fish that was caught perhaps days ago, if that. Yes it might be "yuppie" of me, but I love the idea of going to a butcher for your meat, a baker for your bread and baked goods and a dedicated fish monger for your seafood. What I love more about The Fishery is the guys behind the counter are qualified chefs. Not only can they advise on the best fillets of fish, prawns or what oyster to get, but they can give you plenty of easy to recreate at home tips on how to prepare your newly purchased seafood. It's a winning combination! Plus, they'll often have a daily lunch special advertised out the front and I believe often via their Facebook or Twitter profiles. For under $10 you'll be able to try things like your standard fish and chips, a prawn po boy or whatever other concoction takes their fancy on that particular day.

Having marked this place on my Wishlist, I didn't think I'd actually make it out this far food…read more But, being located right next to Miette's Boulangerie gave me an excuse to actually travel out to try out these allegedly delicious places in suburbia. I've had several fish 'n' chips places around Brisbane, including The Salt & Battery in St. Lucia, as well as Fish Market in Dutton Park. So far, I think that Riverside does the best job frying up their fish 'n' chips, but Fish Market does make the plate more colorful with a mini salad on the side. Riverside does a lunch special of the cod fish with hot chips and a canned drink for $10, and it's loaded with hot chips to fill you up! I couldn't finish them... The batter for the cod had an amazing mouthfeel, as it wasn't over-fried or soggy, and the fish was definitely fresh. I didn't try any other fishes, so I can't vouch for them, but the calamari seems to be quite popular. The sauces (tartare, etc.) are an extra $1.5-2.0, but totally worth it! My tartare sauce was perfect. They were friendly and pretty attentive, so that's always a plus. This isn't a place to go for ambience, but it is definitely a go-to if you're a fan of seafood! The only downside is that going by public transportation takes quite a while...

The sauce prices are ridiculous. All of this is in consideration of the fish and chips store just round the corner which is cheaper and tastier. No okestop
