Having to go to the clinic for allergies is a pain in the butt EXCEPT when you have a Doctor like Dr. Lien! I actually look forward to my weekly allergy shots. I was very disappointed with my experience. I sought treatment for severe occupational rhinitis and significant eye irritation that occurred at my work as a RN. After trying to endure unsuccessful treatment, my symptoms escalated and the ability to perform my job became impossible. Dr. Lien refused to complete my SDI paperwork. He did not acknowledge the severity of my symptoms and how much they affected my work. I left feeling unsupported at a very difficult time. After over 30 years of service and contributing to a system that I cannot access, I was forced to leave my job without financial support. I've taken care of patients my whole career and now that I need care, I can't get it. He was callous and careless and it has affected me greatly. read more

I tried to have an initial appointment with Dr. Lien today. When I had made my appointment, the receptionist I spoke to over the phone did not properly answer my basic questions regarding copay (I gave them my insurance), nor did they tell me which suite I needed to go to for Dr. Lien's office. His name is not specifically listed in the building, so I was worried that I had gone to the wrong office. When I arrived, the entire office smelled strongly of perfume, despite being an office which specifically helps people with allergies. I had questions about my copay for my initial appointment, and about how many more appointments I would need to make in order to complete a patch test and what those copays would be, so that I could plan my appointments in accordance with my financial ability, but the receptionist refused to answer about follow up appointments. She kept saying that the patch test takes three days, but wouldn't say if that was an additional charge. I am autistic, and I know that I did not phrase my initial questions clearly at all because I was so stressed about the perfume, so I asked to start over and apologized for my tone and also for not getting eye contact right. I also stopped making eye contact because I was worried about using the wrong facial expression. The receptionist still would not give me the information I was asking for, and said that I already knew that information since I had chosen my health insurance. I did not choose my health insurance, so I don't know why she said that, and health insurance companies can be very difficult to get that sort of information from directly, and every other doctor's office I visit has always given me that information, often without me even needing to ask. The receptionist started calling me irresponsible, which bothered me, because I was asking about the cost of patch test appointments because that felt like a responsible question. At this point, she also repeatedly told me that I had "planned this," that I "knew what the cost was already," and that I was "trembling," which was also proof of what I had planned...but she wouldn't tell me what she thought I had planned. I didn't realize until then, but I do think that I was shaking slightly at this point, as she was speaking to me like I was a naughty child, and I felt completely humiliated, and also wasn't sure if maybe the entire thing was my fault. I thought it was okay to ask that information, and it's so hard trying to get that same info from the insurance company itself, but after this attempt at an appointment, I felt stupid and useless. I ended up deciding to leave and didn't even have my appointment, because I feel like if the receptionists are angry at you, then you probably won't be able to access healthcare, because you have to access healthcare through them. I was very confused, and I told her this before I left, but she was so angry, and she kept interrupting everything I tried to say to diffuse the situation. I still don't know what she was trying to accuse me of. She said that I didn't want to pay my copay, but that doesn't make any sense, because everyone knows that you can't see your doctor until you sign in and pay the copay and fill out papers. This was an important appointment, because I believe I have a kind of serious latex allergy, but I was able to call my primary care doctor's office and get a referral to a different allergist. I do not think that Dr. Lien's office is a safe or comfortable place for neurodivergent people. If you are autistic, please seek a different office. read more

They do have a good customer service and marketing, all looks glossy, but the way they treat is horrible. I came to them feeling bad and coughing a lot, the test showed I have strong dust allergy. They made me spent so much money on buying different house devices and gave me loads of medicine. For half a year I was coming back to them, saying it doesn't help, they insisted on adding even more medicine, until I was desperate. I was recommended to visit Dr. Cheng. He saved my health. He listened carefully to my symptoms and completely replaced all I was taking by one medicine, and immediately I started to feel better. In a week he added some inhaler just for a week, and I don't cough at all any more, just taking one tablet at night. He saved me. Look carefully at doctors using a lot of marketing technics and working rather for medicine providers than for you! Dr. Lien has so many clients coming, that he didn't even see me until the third visit, all is done by associate girls, that just listen to you and then prescribe lots of medicine, give you tons of adv materials where to buy the equipment to clean air. So, this place took over what was formerly Allergy Consultants Medical Group and relocated across the street from their old office. (Near Eden Hospital) Dr. Fernandes was the primary allergists. The place was kind of old and pretty much needed an upgrade. So when they switched over I knew this new office would be what they need. Now, the new office is in a brand new building with more convenient upgrades. They have switched to be electronic. The place is cleaner than the other place and more convenient for those of us with dust allergies. Although Dr. Fernandes was a nice man, the new doctor, Dr. Lien is even better. His staff was unbelievably friendly and were so patient with my niece. (18 months) The testing was unusual for a toddler but the staff was nice about it. She was quite scared but they knew how to keep her distracted so the testing would go smoothly. Afterwards, Dr. Lien gave great advice on what to avoid and information on follow ups. He also gave us advice for alternatives for a nut friendly environment. I would definitely go back again! Trust me, you won't regret your decision. read more

I can't say enough great things about Dr. Lien. After hitting a wall with my insurance (Kaiser), I went to see him for a skin issue I've been dealing with for ten years. He was able to diagnose the problem, refer me to a dermatologist, and even asked to keep him updated. After contacting Kaiser and getting the runaround about the medications I need, his advice saved me some large out of pocket costs. Everyone on his staff is also kind and efficient. I feel it's rare to find a doctor who is both incredibly knowledgeable and truly caring. If you're looking for an allergist, you won't find a better one. read more

Dr. Kenneth Lien provides excellent service! I am a family physician who practices outside of the Bay Area. I had a loved one admitted to a local hospital. I was concerned about a severe allergic reaction and contacted Dr. Lien's office for a consultation since he was the nearest allergist. His office staff was very helpful and made sure Dr. Lien was immediately aware of my request. He was very understanding. Best allergy specialist I have seen for my daughter and myself. Front desk/Medical Assistants are super friendly and remember us. Dr. Lien's office has modern equipment and the office is always clean. They always have great channels on TV and their office always has holiday decorations updated. Dr. Lien is very knowledgeable and doesn't just prescribe random meds to patients like most doctors. I went from taking 11 meds from my family practice doctor for my hives and being sent to the ER 3 times, to taking only 2 meds and it helped my hives. I cannot thank him enough. I've been seeing Dr.Lien for a couple years, by far the most compassionate and caring doctor I have ever had. He goes above and beyond for his patients. I followed Dr.Lien from Kiaser where he was the chief of the allergy clinic to his own practice with all the latest equipment and treatment. Everyone from the staff and other patients were sad to see him leave. I changed my insurance to be under Dr. Lien care. He's extremely knowledgeable in his specialty and will go above and beyond in my treatment of my allergies. I suffer from really bad allergies and I didn't starting seeing relief until I started seeing him. Other doctors I've had didn't do much and I felt I wasn't getting the treatment I needed. He's very positive and strives to see me and other patients are getting good care. I also like his staff as well, the nurses at his practice are extremely friendly and outgoing, Julia is the funniest staff member and is awesome ! . It nice to walk in and see everyone happy smiling and with just good bedside manners. What I also like is that he takes his time to talk to the patients and I never feel rushed. When he has time in between patients and sees you in the lobby or getting a shot, he also makes it a point to say hi and ask how you are doing. To start with Dr. Lien is fabulous, no complaints here. He is attentive, great customer service, stays on top of the latest research and really listens to the patient. Front desk staff great customer service. EXCEPTION: Billing person rude and needs customer service classes. I called questioning a bill for the office visit co pay. The front desk ladies collect it at the appointment, but somehow you also get a bill sent to you for it until the insurance settles up is what I was told by the biller (Cora), who was very defensive when questioned. I asked why then do they collect it when you check in for your appointment? My husband was about to pay the bill when I told him I had already paid the co pay at the time of service. I asked when they get the second payment in the mail what do they do with it? She said we will return it to you after the insurance settles. This is my co pay, no question I owe it, the insurance will not pay this and when she looked it showed in their computer that I indeed had paid at the time of service. Anyway I suggested that either they bill the co pay or have the front desk collect but not both. This will save them un needed paper work and sending out refunds. She continued to try to talk over me, I had to ask her to please let me finish. She said Oh my God lady have a good day and proceeded to hang up!! I found this inconsistent with the other staff employed here who are stellar employees!! Very upsetting interaction with this person, when you have such a good feeling about the rest of Dr. Lien's staff. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Lien for a very difficult to treat condition since December 2014 and Dr. Lien is the most caring doctor that I've ever seen. In 2005 I started seeing seeing NP Amy Shell, who worked with Dr. Fernandes for the same condition. She happened to find a cocktail of antihistamines that actually helped. I went into remission for a few years and unfortunately my condition appeared again in December and the cocktail of antihistamines no longer worked. My first appointment was in December and I found out that NP Amy Shell no longer worked there and that Dr. Fernandes retired. This is when I met Dr. Lien and his staff. Dr. Lien when out of his way to help me. I've had some really bad experiences with doctors trying to treat my condition over the past 18 years and it's a pleasure to say this was not one of them. I highly recommend Dr. Lien because he's very knowledgeable, compassionate and truly wants to see his patients get better! read more
