During our first visit under the new management, my husband's massage felt more like oil being spread around than an actual massage. There was very little pressure, no real muscle work, and none of the relaxation we had come to expect over the years. We decided to give the business another chance, but our second visit was even more disappointing. We noticed the same massage therapist appeared to have a visible issue with her hand or arm, so we politely requested a different therapist. Despite our concern, she still performed my massage. Throughout the session, she relied almost entirely on one hand, resulting in excessive pressure on my left side while my right side received very little actual massage. It felt extremely unbalanced, almost as if she was trying to prove she could still perform the service rather than ensuring I received a quality massage. To make matters worse, because of her height and the position she had to stand in, the sequins on her shirt repeatedly snagged my hair as she leaned over me. That was uncomfortable and distracting during what should have been a relaxing experience. Since payment is required before the service, I felt obligated to stay and hope the massage would improve. Our final concern was regarding the length of the massage. We paid for a one-hour massage but did not receive a full hour of hands-on service. When we mentioned it, we were told that the hour begins at the time payment is made. If that's the policy, it should be clearly communicated before customers pay. It also raises the question of why customers are asked whether they want a 30-, 60-, or 90-minute massage if the full amount of time paid for isn't actually spent receiving the massage. After being customers for about a decade, it's disappointing to see the decline in both the quality of the massages and the customer service. We truly hope management addresses these issues because this used to be one of our favorite places.

When I turned over, I realized it was a man.......I only go to woman masseuses. I didn't specify that in the beginning of my massage, but at these types of spas it's always women doing it and I've NEVER had the person switch in the middle. Most of my massage was over so I would have minded less except this man had no business doing the massage. He was rubbing the front of my neck and put his fingers in my ear. When I was done and came out, I saw that 2 women masseurs were giving women chair massages and that's why they had left me in the middle of my massage. I had called to make my appointment so this is completely unacceptable. Because of the unprofessionalism, I do NOT recommend this place.

Krista is definitely one of those few! I have so far seen Krista 3 times in the last few weeks receiving my first Thai massage from her just this past week. I left feeling thoroughly relaxed and plan to regularly incorporate this into future sessions. I find her deep tissue pressure to be effectively deep and not just a test to see if she can make a big guy wince in pain. I highly recommend her, even for those "massage veterans" with established therapists, I don't believe you will be disappointed. Krista's professionalism and compassion shows in her work!

A few clicks later and I had a slot booked for a massage with Kentucky Masseur Dixon Martin -- crick in the neck be darned! Kentucky Masseur is located on lower Brownsboro Rd, in a 2-story brick building with ample parking in the back. Dixon had sent me a new patient form via email, which I had filled out prior to arriving. I highly recommend doing this if you go -- this ensures that you can spend your full 60 minutes enjoying the massage and not losing precious minutes to some paperwork. He met me at the door and was pleasant, personable and professional. He is also extremely knowledgeable about anatomy, wellness, and how massage factors into a holistic regimen of healthy living. The massage room was painted in a calming hue, with a comfortable table, and filled with the aromas of some pleasant essential oils. While some relaxing music played, I enjoyed every one of my 60 minutes getting stress and tension kneaded away. The next time that you need a little kneading, give Kentucky Masseur a try, and you just might find a new favorite place, too!

The scheduling of the appointment was a little back and forth, but being a smaller establishment, I could understand when I got their voicemail. I will say though, they did always call me back. I scheduled my appointment for 5:30 in the afternoon - enough time for me to come in from work. Fortunately, there wasn't any traffic, so I was there 45 minutes early. I easily found their building, but found that they were away until my appointment time. That was fine...I went to Qdoba and ate dinner. Got back at about 5:20 and it was open. The space is very calming. The purple wall color and soft lighting put me at ease. I had to fill out some paperwork and then was escorted to a room. The massage therapist and I chatted for a bit about my goals of the session and she left to let me get undressed. One thing I do like, that this place didn't do, is a foot bath. My feet were in shoes all day and really could have used the soak. But eh, what can you do. We started the session and the massage was great. There were a few things that were different - like she had me push down on my leg against her hand (similar to physical therapy), and she only did it to one leg - but overall, it was relaxing and I felt good afterwards. It was only when I left that I realized that I didn't get any aromatherapy. Not a big deal, but if you order it, make sure you ask about it up front.
