After coming here for 4 years for their overpriced and deceptive services, I'm taking my business elsewhere from now on. Granted that I don't know much about cars, I initially trusted the highly rated google reviews on this place since they seem to be run by honest people who are trustworthy. I really should've trusted my guts after my car's AC suddenly stopped working after taking it in for a yearly inspection here a couple of years ago, but I kept coming back in hopes that it was just a one-time thing (when I took the car back to have them take a look at it after that incident, they claimed the issue was not reproducible that there's nothing wrong with it. As if by magic, my AC suddenly worked after I picked up my car from them). This year, I dropped my car off with them for the yearly inspection and oil change (each of those services cost at least $100 btw). I was pretty busy at work when they texted me several images of my car tire. When asked if it needed a change, I was told it's highly recommended but not needed to pass the inspection. On the other hand, since I just replaced my car battery, I needed to drive my car in order to generate sufficient emissions data for the inspection. When I called them to ask about the tire issue on the phone, I was also told that the tires would only last around 25 more miles before they gave out. Since I don't wanna risk having a flat/blown out tires, I asked them to give me the quote for the cost of the tires. On the phone, they mentioned a set would be around $621. I thought it sounded a bit expensive, but after checking online, it seems like a reasonable range so I proceeded with it. They later sent me a text that all services (oil change + state inspection + 3 tires) would cost around $840. Mind you, whenever someone mentions a set of tires, one would assume they meant the entire set of 4 tires unless you're driving a tricycle. I didn't pay much attention to the part where they mentioned 3 tires since I thought it was a typo. Nope. I was fooled. They REALLY meant the change was only for a set of 3 tires. Since I picked up my car at the end of a workday, I didn't have much energy left for anything else than to just get home and rest. Granted that I've been going to this place for the past 4 years, I also thought that my loyalty to them would allow me to trust them with a high level of service. To hell with that expectation since none of the following were provided on the day I picked up the car: 1) the digital invoice (they link they sent on the day of service did NOT work), 2) the physical copy of the invoice, 3) the information on the tires' warranty, which they claimed verbally was only 6 months from the date of service or based on the tires' thread life, and 4) the safety inspection results. Before I picked up my car, I looked up Yokohama tire's website (the manufacturer of the kind I purchased), and it clearly states that they offer a warranty up to 65,000 mile and a 30-day trial satisfaction guarantee. After mentioning this to Ken's Auto on the call, they said that guarantee is only applicable if I were to 1) purchase 4 tires, and 2) submit the claim on my own on Yokohama's website. Granted that I last changed all 4 of my tires at Costco at the same time, I fail to understand why they'd only change only 3 of them ESPECIALLY if it would limit me from being able to get the manufacturer's warranty honored. Any automotive resources would also tell you the replacing either a set of 2 tires (front-wheel drive) or 4 tires (all wheel drive) simultaneously would be optimal to prevent uneven wear and tear and maintain balanced handling. This place has snake oil dripping down their teeth when they mentioned that the last tire didn't need to be replaced since it's still in good working condition and that I'm being charged fairly since I wouldn't be able to find a business that'd install my tires without charging for the labor costs (hello, Costco does this ALL the time). The part that pissed me off the most was how gaslighting they were about all the things they mentioned on the phone call and texts as follows: 1) they claimed they never told me my tires would only last 25 more miles, and 2) they claimed they DID inform me that I'd be charged for 3 tires by the 3 text images (despite the fact that they look like they're pictures of the same tire but from a slightly different angle) as well as on the phone (a complete lie). If you're looking for an honest and trustworthy car shop, this place isn't it. Keep looking elsewhere and save your money. Update: In response to Ken L.'s reply, I'd like to clarify that the estimates were provided AFTER the complaint call. The link to the invoice on the date of the service only says to "contact the shop to reshare the link". I was probably put on blast/speaker by the business during the complaint call rather than when the original conversation concerning the tires issue and pricing. Ken's always hold me down when it comes to servicing my car. We have a 2015 Kia with under 100k miles so it's important to keep her in good shape! Ken's always provides the best recommendations and also does. It try to upsell you on things. They are honest and always provide their services in a timely manner. They are very transparent, upfront especially, and explained everything to me. I brought a client of mine needing extensive repairs on their Honda Element, including replacing a starter with a severely cross threaded bolt. Kens is not the cheapest by far but they are fast and effective. I want to gate keep, but it doesn't matter anyway because the word is out on this place. When arriving in an uber to pick up my car, even my uber driver said that he had dropped off a couple people at this place and they were telling them how good it is. It's hard finding a good mechanic. And it's a bit intimidating because one must rely solely on the word of the mechanic when the way cars function are a personal mystery (I'm speaking for me). But Ken and his team are communicative, personable, reliable and reasonable. I've had the same issue with my car, for I'm not kidding, YEARS, and have yet to get to the bottom of it (it is an intermittent problem). Ken and his team are systematically figuring it out. And he's making sure we are finding the problem by slowly correcting it so that we aren't replacing parts that work. (If you don't understand what I was just saying, I understand. I was looking for a new auto shop and this one came highly recommended from neighbors. Last year I needed some work done, and we needed to pick up my car the same day after their shop closed. They had said they could get the work done before 6pm, but unfortunately we had some obligations that prohibited us from returning to the shop before they closed. Initially the employee said I could come back the next day (which would mean I would need to Uber to work). The employee actually called me back and apologized that he forgot that it was an option that I could pick up after hours, I really appreciated the call back after he realized! Recently I brought my car in because I could see metal dragging under my car. They needed to install some retainer clips, and using 5 clips including all labor and tax, my total came to about $59 which I found fair. I was also able to drop this off as a walk-in and pick it up about 2 hours later on a weekday. It started with me wanting my brakes checked bc another mechanic tried convincing me that my brakes were horribly worn even though I didn't hear a sound and that the back brakes were so bad I shouldnt be driving. I dropped my car off to Ken's before work and they called to tell me that I needed front brakes but my back breaks still had some life to them. Which was hilariously opposite of what the other mechanic told me. I had them go ahead and complete the work, paying less than half of what I would have paid had I been gullible enough at the other place. Great customer service, FAST turnaround. I had my VW Jetta inspected here today, and all I had to do was call, give my details, and drop off the car. Got a call around an hour later that it was ready to be picked up already! Service: Friendly! The guy behind the counter (don't remember his name) was friendly the whole time. Inspection Cost: The inspection was about $90 including emissions, so not super cheap, but from looking into other options that's pretty good for center city. I could have saved some money driving out to the suburbs, but driving 30-40 minutes both ways is dumb if you live within walking distance of Ken's. read more

I called Monday morning at 9am hoping to be the first caller to schedule a safety and emissions inspection. They told me to come by tomorrow (Tuesday) and they would fit me in. I came in early Tuesday morning and the lot was already filled! They were turning away people who did not schedule ahead of time. Don't be one of those people! They gave me a call about 4 hours later to let me know the car was ready. Easy peasy. They did a good job with the sticker. I hate it when people just slap stickers on crooked on my front windshield. $35 for emission inspection and $45 for safety inspection. Extra 2% charge on credit cards so bring debit. They also take Venmo, very high tech. $5 yelp discount! (it is applied post tax ) Don't forget to use it! And don't forget to schedule ahead of time! See you guys next year! read more

Damaged/cut my axle & cut my stud off in the process of "fixing my car". Went to him about the loud crackling noises my wheel was making after they damaged the vehicle, he wouldn't take accountability & blamed it on "loose brakes". Which made no sense what so ever because I had new brakes. Then he tried to charge me to get the brakes looked at like I was boo boo the fool. After making an appointment Ken's automotive kept my foreign vehicle for (3) weeks. I paid nearly $1000 on repairs + $700 on a trans. part which included a diagnostic of low mode, clean MAS and a diagnostic of scraping sound on the passenger side tire. Unfortunately after picking up my vehicle I drove approx. (2) blocks from Ken's before the check engine light came on again and the vehicle quickly switched back into low mode. Fortunately I was able to drive home in this dragging mode but had to face another week of utilizing Uber/Lyft transportation in addition to loosing time and money waiting for parts and repair. Fortunately I was able to hire a mobile mechanic to get the job done it cost me another $600 for an alternator + labor but was well worth it! I currently have no service lights on and the vehicle was properly reset and currently drives smoothly. I try not to expect much from auto mechanics just respectful trustworthy services which include transparent communication after 24hrs to include a copy of the diagnostics especially when it costs $180. I recently moved from NJ and needed my car inspected. After reading positive reviews, I decided to give Kens Automotive a try. So glad I did. I knew I would need some repairs to pass inspection but wasn't sure how much was needed. Ken walked me through what was needed and what could wait, along with a timeframe for when I should expect to do the extra repairs. The work was done same day even though I know they were very busy that day. When I picked up my car, I heard Ken walking another customer through the "needed now, that can wait" list.
