Hands down best service my husband & I has ever received at an ice cream shop. Owner was really friendly and banana split was yummy. They were out of bananas when we ordered but owner asked a worker to run next door to the donut shop and buy a couple of bananas. Usually at other places we would just be told that they were out of bananas and then we would leave, but they went out their way to make sure we had bananas for our order. I've been coming to Ken's for a while, but I'm just getting a chance to review! I love the ice cream and I appreciate the location as well. I usually go for the strawberry cheesecake ice cream and my mom goes for mint/chip. You can tell that the ice cream is fresh. I think the pricing is also very fair, in comparison to Rite Aid and Baskin Robins (both of which are in the area). Sometimes the older woman can be a little rude, so I do appreciate her grandson being patient and helping customers when he notices that she's being a little mean/rushing customers. The first time I went here, I left without service because there was a long wait. After thinking about it I wish I would have waited. They had 2 people waiting as they packed up their order. There were big orders and people were getting great service by them engaging them and answering every question. The next chance I got I went back. Ice cream is delicious, customer service made me feel as though I was home and you get so much ice cream for a great price. One of our go-to places for ice cream in Carson. They carry the Thrifty/Rite-Aid brand flavors--mint chip, double chocolate malted crunch, banana nut, coconut pineapple, butter pecan, rocky road, cookies and cream, rainbow sherbet, a few dairy-free sorbet flavors. We usually get pints to go, but they offer sundaes, cones (sugar or cake), and by the cup as well. Fun to look at the family's photos with various celebrities on the wall while you wait for your ice cream. Sometimes they also carry cookies and a delicious yet simple cream bundt cake--the cake in particular is excellent. Staff is very friendly and attentive (and they wear masks). We love supporting this family-owned, Black-owned local business. And it's great to be able to brighten up your day with a treat of ice cream by supporting local, small businesses. read more

You have at least 20 ice cream and sorbet flavors to choose from not to mention they will turn an ice cream flavor of your choice into a quick smoothie - which was perfect cause I drive better with a drink in my hand and not an ice cream cone. :) Grabbed two bowls of Chocolate Chocolate and Mint N' Chip. Both lasted well until I got to the CSUDH campus right across the street. My friends went to town on the bowls and I enjoyed my Black Cherry ice cream smoothie. The server was wonderful - he was watching the Brazil Vs Colombia game but still paid attention to me while I was making my selections and just looking around. I've been working right next to this ice cream parlor for quite some time and I've never been in here. It's not that I don't want to. It's just when I get out of work, they are closed at the same time. Ah....anyways, I got out of work at 7 on Friday and I got to grab a quick bite. Exterior - Located in the shopping plaza, shared with Family Fish Market, Henry's Market, KFC, R&R Soul Food, and Thrifty Gas Station. Right across the Home Depot Center. Parking lot has ample slots, but beware of people that cannot park and people that drive recklessly in the lots. There are fewer parking on Fridays due to Family Fish Market customers, but nonetheless you should find one. Interior - Very simple. Very clean and tidy. Has your menu on the wall. Couple of chairs. They have a long table connected to the wall and stools to sit on, but no casual table where you sit like 4 people and talk. There are pictures hung up with the owner and many celebrities. Customer Service - I know the guy, David, he usually walks across work or buys something. Now it's weird the other way around, haha. He was very friendly and attentive. The owner was present as well and very friendly. She was very talkative. I walked around couple of times, deciding and ended up getting a simple double cup of vanilla and chocolate ice cream. She was surprised cause I took a while and ended up getting some simple. She thought I was going to get something exotic and crazy. Such a funny lady. Food - The ice cream was good. This is my go to spot now for ice cream whenever I'm craving some. Taste fresh and homemade. And they give HUGE servings. I was in a ice cream coma shortly after. Menu wise, they had the typical floats,cones, and others. I just glanced shortly, should have taken a picture of the menu. But anyways... Overall - Give this place a go. But yeah, my daddy and I use to walk 3 miles to the ice cream shop, have a cone and walk back. LOL! I guess his goal was to spend time versus lose weight. Ms. Wanda and her husband use to run the shop in the Crown Drugs shopping center. Then ol' evil 31 Baskins & Robbins tried to steal the thunder. She moved over here by the best fish market eva. I have tasted every single ice cream in the parlor and have just about tried everything on the menu but my favorite is the pecan praline special which is like a mini sundae in a cup! I've been supporting this mom & pop small business since I was a little girl and when it was in the shopping plaza next to Dandy Lion. It's not a fancy shop with hundreds of creative flavors to choose from. It is an old-school ice cream shop with good, rich ice cream and a simple menu. The portions have always been generous. Prices...you can't beat. Yes, Ms. Wanda isn't the friendliest person upon first impression. She is all business but sweet, nonetheless. I respect her for keeping the business thriving in the community. I'd also support her business any day before I drive down the street and spend high dollars for Baskin Robbins small scoops. I recommend the bubblegum flavor. Its the best I've ever had. So much so, I still order it after 30 years! They also carry black walnut which I don't find at many other ice cream shops. You won't be disappointed with the ice cream here. While you're at it, pick up a few Otis Spunkmeyer cookies. They too, are some of my favorites and very hard to get. Yummmm!! read more

I've written a review a few years ago but I thought an updated one was needed. Ken's is still one of my favorite places to get ice cream. My younger siblings and I hold Ken's in such high regard as it is a large part of our childhood. I'm about to head off to college in the fall but make sure to stop by Kens when I can because it will definitely be missed. Absolutely great service and excellent ice cream especially the malts! (There is definitely a difference between malts and shakes)! They allow you ice cream samples and let you taste your malt to see if the malt level is sufficient. They even asked me if I wanted the extra malt ( of course I did ) The servers are extremely polite - something I rarely experience. I enjoy taking my grandchildren there too.
