Electric goes out entirely too much for being in the state of Kentucky. They want to go cut trees that aren't close to lines on Landsdown and don't take care of the recurring problems. They supposedly upgraded their equipment and here I sit in 10mph wind without electric and they take FOREVER to fix it. Never had it come back on within 4-5 hours. There's been 1000+ people in the same area without electric and they still don't even know the cause. I wish there were other choices for power. These people clearly don't care about their customers...and if you call they know nothing and provide no help whatsoever. There's not a single part of this company that works quick or efficiently. It will be 10pm before we even get a reason why it's off. Supposed to be 37 tomorrow morning....I'm about half expecting to have to build a fire. read more

Rude customer service,automated call back hangs up after it calls you back,regular line we were on hold for over 45 min multiple times with no help. Then they threatened to cut power on us when they wont answer the phones! They should be forced to have a real set down in person office in every city they service!! Zero stars for us! I'm not sure if maybe having more linemen would help but i know if my power flickers on the south end of somerset then I'm going to be without power for at least 2 days. It's insane that we are forced to pay a specific company whatever they want because of where we live and then they arent forced to compete to survive. I'm just curious to know the methodology KU uses when restoring power to neighborhoods. Looking at it from outwardly, it appears that more affluent neighborhoods are restored quicker. Not sure if that is true or not, but it certainly appears that way. Would love to know how they determine which neighborhood to restore first. read more

I had questions about my account and was in hold for more than an hour 3 times today and still didn't get anyone on the phone to answer my questions about a credit balance versus the bill that was sent to be paid. No customer should have to wait on hold that long ever!! KU you expect the bill to be paid on time, so you should also provide customer service by answering the phone. Closed offices. Long hold times. Zero online response. What type of utility has no physical offices?

Been trying to pay my bill on their website, and every time something goes wrong and it won't accept my payment. Checked all my information to make sure it was good in case I had made an error somewhere with numbers, but all that was fine. Tried using the app, and that didn't work either. I tried calling multiple times and was on hold for over an hour each time before I had to give up because I had things to do. On my day off decided to go down to the office, only to find its closed and a sign saying I can make payments online, or at one of there help payment centers, i.e. grocery stores. So now I gotta go to somebody else, to pay my bill to them. read more

I will start by saying KU or some may say Kentucky Utilities needs to have an ounce of kindness and understanding. One of my friends electricity has been turned off over the bill being past due which I understand but there are 2 adults and 1 child who has an issue which causes him to not be able to control his bowel movements and therefore wears adult diapers and isn't able to leave the house and now he is being forced to sit in the house in the extreme heat and just become more exhausted and depressed along with fatigue and anxiety. They lost $400 worth of groceries that were in the freezer and the refrigerator. So listen people someone anyone who can help one of my good friends get her enormous utility bill paid it's $1160.00 and KU even took the meter off the pole. Please tell everyone and maybe with strangers helping and the little bit I am able to help them with might actually get it back on so that little boy can breathe and get back to functioning better. I had to send an email to customer service because of a negative balance on my bill and I come to find that the meter was "misread" and the negative balance was a credit. The response time was what they stated, 1 business day from writing, but the misreading comes into question. How many times have they misread and let it go? How can I verify this? Hmm.... read more

They are truly the worst when I have had more power issues since moving to this apartment complex on alumni than I've ever had. They have been so slow to fix a power outage and it has been awful being a customer of there's. Paying Hundreds of dollars for your power to go out at noon on a Saturday. This power company is awful. We can't go nowhere else for power either we have to take it from companies like KU then spend our hard earned money for poor service. SHAME. read more

So impressed with these guys!! Ice storm hit, and they started at 4:00am out in 22 degrees, wind chill 11, and didn't stop until 9:30pm. Came to my neighborhood by 8:30am, and had to replace an entire pole, and get three trees off of downed lines just near my house. Respectful of my trees, my dogs, my fence, and never stopped working. Got power on that evening, surprising everyone who was sure it would take a few days. Utterly amazing crew!! read more

KU has been rumored to be an energy monopoly is the state of Kentucky. While this is only rumored, they collect much of their profits from overcharging students on their energy bills. Lexington being a large college town populated by the University of Kentucky, contains many different college houses, apartment complexes, etc. for off campus housing. Some of these complexes (one that I have lived in for 8 months now) uses KU as a separate payment from the all included rent. Never has a bill been so high than this past february 2022. My household (and others in our complex) experienced over a 100% increase on our energy bill while some others in our complex did not experience this increase at all. KU has not came to reread the meter by request, or refunded or reevaluated our energy bill or any other residents' in our complex. This is an ongoing conversation about the motives behind KU and their school and franchise tax that is tacked on to all student resident's bills at the end of the month...as if college students aren't struggling already... read more

They sent me a bill over 1100. They said they would offer a payment plan. The customer service is horrible and the phone system and the online system are even worse. The plan that they came up with was "pay it by the end of the month". Great plan KU....great plan. read more

Doesn't care who they bill or hurt. I was a day away from signing the closing papers for a House I was purchasing. I called to have the power put in my name. My wife and I are doing a final walk through an hour before signing and there was a main water line that broke in the house and damaged the 1st floor and basement. I called to stop the changing of the power and was already taken care of by the home owners. A week later and I get a bill from KU for one day of $3.24. Called to have corrected and they stated since it was in my name for the day even though I never was able to purchase the house I have to pay. Can there actually get an electric company here in Kentucky that actually cares about people and not only about their profits. Piss poor business. Would love to see another company come in and run them out of business. Worst service ever. read more
