    My brother was a longtime patient of this practice and thought very highly of the care he received…read more Tragically, he passed away in July 2024. Recently, I needed limited medical records related to questions surrounding the after-effects of his volunteer rescue efforts during 9/11. I contacted the office in mid-April and was provided with the fax number and instructions for submitting the required documentation. I sent all requested materials and only requested information related to one specific medical condition and medication -- not his complete medical history. A few days later, I called to follow up and was told someone would retrieve the documents from the fax machine and get back to me. After another follow-up call, I was informed that the paperwork appeared to no longer be in the fax machine and that the person responsible for handling medical records was out of the office. I called again and was told that individual would return the following Tuesday. When I called on Tuesday, I was then informed that the office had never received my fax, despite my fax confirmation showing successful delivery. I became understandably concerned because the fax contained highly sensitive and confidential information. Rather than acknowledging that concern, the conversation became defensive, and I was asked to resend everything. It was a very upsetting interaction. After the call, I was deeply disappointed by what felt like a complete lack of empathy and patient-centered consideration. The office called me back twice afterward, but I was too upset to answer immediately. About 30 minutes later, I returned the call and explained that this process had forced me to repeatedly relive the trauma of my brother's death, while also feeling as though I was being accused of being disrespectful simply for expressing concern and frustration. I was then given an email address and promptly resent all materials electronically. I received no response. One week later, I sent an apology email in an effort to move forward constructively and simply asked for help obtaining the records. That was now one month after my original fax, three weeks after sending the email, and one week after my apology -- and I still had received no assistance. This was only one of five medical groups I had to contact to obtain limited records related to my brother's care. This was the only office that claimed not to receive the fax, became argumentative about the situation, and ultimately failed to provide assistance despite repeated follow-up and my own efforts to de-escalate the situation. I sincerely hope future patients and family members do not experience what I did, especially during an already painful time. Compared with the professionalism and compassion shown by the 4 other medical offices I worked with, this experience suggested significant disorganization in how faxes and medical records requests are managed, along with a troubling lack of empathy toward grieving family members seeking limited medical information.
