We enjoyed an early Valentine's Day dinner at Kevin Rathbun Steak. We made reservations for the wine cellar, arrived and valeted our car, and the host seated us promptly. The Wine cellar was cozy and intimate, and WARM. As soon as I went upstairs to wash my hands I felt the chill from the cool Valentine air. Our team of servers were very professional and accommodating, and the food deserves it's accolades, as expected for an amazing steakhouse! We split the wagyu steak cooked medium, and it was well worth the splurge! It was perfectly flavorful, buttery, and tender. The mac and cheese was perfection. The fried green beans, I was not really a fan of them. However, the wine pairings and the rest of the food surely made up for the green beans. We dined here 4/17 for my in-laws 50th anniversary dinner party. We chose this restaurant based on reviews and so glad we did. We all truly enjoyed dining here! Delicious food and drinks, beautiful decor, and wonderful staff!! Making the Resy reservation was really simple. I reserved for 5 initially and later needed to update to 12. You must call for parties larger than 9. I spoke to host Erin who quickly updated the headcount for me. He was also the first welcoming face we saw when we walked into the restaurant and walked us to our table. Timothy, our waiter, was knowledgable of the menu, wines and cocktails. He was patient with our menu questions and made great food suggestions. Only regret was that we did not ask the owner to come over for a picture with the anniversary guests of honor when we saw him. Wow! I had friends tell me this was their favorite stake house in ATL. I was skeptical about the juxtaposition of upscale + beltline chaos and how that would mix. We ate inside. They incredibly accommodated our party on a Saturday night-- Wow-- as we grew from 3 to 8 throughout the week. We really appreciate it. The service was impeccable... really I'd say that the entire experience can be described as "unpretentious (ie Not-Stuffy) high-end (luxury)". That applied to the amazing server we had as well as the overall ambiance that they strike. It was full (especially outside), but not crowded at all. And intimate though still spacious. We tried Kevin Rathbun's last night, 5/5, highly recommend. Parking was easy with complimentary valet (they work on tips). We didn't have cash, but they do accept tap/cashless tips. We had reservations, arrived about 20 minutes early, and were seated immediately. The restaurant is dimly lit, but not overly dark like some "moody" spots. Reggie was our waiter and was extremely helpful and friendly, if he's available, definitely request him. We started with the Lobster Fritters and the Japanese BBQ Wagyu Short Ribs. The short ribs came as four small pieces, but they were tender, flavorful, and worth trying. The fritters were much larger, with a perfectly crispy exterior without being overly heavy or greasy. The accompanying sauce was a great balance of zesty and sweet. Then the main event: the Dry-Aged Porterhouse for Two. At 22 oz, it was perfectly cooked (medium), with a slight char on the outside and tender, juicy meat inside. We added the truffle butter, which was a perfect complement. The sides were also delicious and large enough to share. We had the Charred Jalapeño Creamed Corn and the Macaroni and Cheese. The longer the mac and cheese sat on the table, the thicker the sauce became, but it was still rich, flavorful, and something I'd absolutely order again. Absolutely fab experience! Valet is a few dollar or tip only I cannot recall, but the team there was quite nice and set the tone. It's right off the beltline -- I believe you can self park but not certain. I started with the salad (they don't have fresh anchovies). I found it to be just okay (2/5) and I've had some really good ceasar salads. We each offered ribeye steaks, fries (super large portion), and Brussel sprouts. I ordered my steak medium but it was cooked medium well hence why i took a star off. My mom ordered her's medium well and hers came out fine. We started with oysters, and they were fresh, cold, and clean. Definitely worth getting. For dinner, everything came out hot and beautifully plated. The lamb chops were tender and full of flavor. I was excited to try this restaurant from the reviews and was not impressed. The short ribs had a lot of sauce over it and was overwhelming and over powered the short ribs. That flavor of the sauce in the short ribs was strong and for some reason that flavor was not for me. I would give the short ribs a 3.5 out of 10. The steak was decent had an ok flavor and surprisingly under flavored. The steak gets a 7.5 however it was very tender. The twice baked potatoes was ok 6.5. Service was ok, he wasn't rude but was checking on me he got a 8 of 10, I was at the bar eating by the way and it was super crowded elbow to elbow. Bill was $108. I've been wanting to try Kevin Rathbun's for a while and finally had the opportunity to check out this modern chophouse on Friday night! It's right off the beltline, so super easy to get to. The outside has an industrial vibe, while the inside is moody and stylish. They offer $4 valet, which was convenient. My husband and I sat in the cellar area. It's cozy and charming. Our server greeted us and was really helpful, explaining everything about the menu, along with the specials. We started with the complimentary bread service and cocktails. My husband went with the KRS Signature Old Fashioned, and I tried the barracuda. Both drinks were strong and delicious. For food, we shared the sampler appetizer -- a great way to try a little bit of everything. It included lobster fritters, Japanese BBQ Wagyu short ribs, and 'Thick Cut' bacon. The short ribs were definitely the highlight for us! For the main course, we split a 10oz ribeye with bleu cheese butter, along with macaroni and cheese and Brussels sprouts. My husband and I had a great experience celebrating our wedding anniversary at Kevin Rathbun. It's perfectly located on the Beltine. The restaurant and restrooms were clean. Bonus: they have a great full length mirror in the women's restroom. The service is excellent. They went above and beyond to make us feel special. The menu has such a wide range of options. We started with the spinach & roasted beet salads. Our mains were a 10oz ribeye, salmon filet dish, brussel sprouts, buffalo cauliflower, and twice baked potatoes. We had the dinner after our wedding at Rathbun's, so it's now an annual tradition. And yesterday was our anniversary. A huge tip of the hat to waiter Ron. He's terrific. The service could not have been better. The drinks were excellent. One would think the same drink would be just about the same everywhere. My Negroni was outstanding. Now to the food. The tuna tartare appetizer was lovely. The problem was with the steaks. At a steak house. The menu has a very detailed explanation of the various degrees of doneness right in the middle of the menu. It was THAT good: the bread fingers with cheese and herbs and butter, the delectable bone marrow scraped onto buttery toast and topped with lemony arugula - OMG, the outrageous lobster fritters, the dry-aged ribeye with peppercorn gravy, the delicate filet with blue cheese butter, the charred jalapeño creamed corn, the lobster risotto, and the citrus cheesecake. If you want a good experience, this is it. The last time I was there I sat in the cellar which is very small and intimate but it's really good views if you want to get the full experience and be surrounded by wine. And they have plenty of wines to boot. So there's valet at the establishment. It's right by the door so you don't have to worry about going too far if you do decide to use valet. You'll come in the door. And depending on where you select your reservation for, they'll take you to a seat in the dining room or to the basement. The basement is the seller, nothing creepy. But if you look immediately left, you'll see the bar. So there's plenty of options. The ambiance is very nice and calming. It's not rowdy or anything like that, you'll definitely be able to relax and listen to some music playing in the background. There's some jazz playing so you don't have to worry about any type of music that might take away from the candle lit and wine tasting experience. The way staff is super attentive and super cool and they will give you a full perspective on the menu. I wanted to pick between a couple of options and I got a really great suggestion which is why it looks like I got a lot of sides LOL. When you sit down after you get settled, they'll bring you bread and the bread is actually pretty good. It comes with butter and the butter is not too soft, but the bread is typically warm so it'll let you spread it a little bit. I'm not sure what kind of bread it is honestly, but I know it's good. Ribeye (20 oz) - The ribeye was really good. It came super hot on the plate, the crust was great, cooked perfectly medium. Little bit saltier but I'm guessing that's just how they age the meat perhaps, but it was still damn good. I got it with some bearnaise sauce on the side. Didn't need it, but I added a little extra umph. Creamed corn - The creamed corn was pretty awesome. I've seen a lot of reviews mention it and it was really good suggestion to do this one. It has just the right amount of salty and savory spice to it. Cheesy broccoli gratin - The broccoli au gratin was pretty good. It came out super hot and in a skillet like plate. The top is perfectly crusted in the bottom is pretty much broccoli and cheese. Brussel sprouts - The brussel sprouts were really good, they came with a sweet and spicy cake to them. I got a half order of those so I can try something else as well. Gumbo - The gumbo was good. It wasn't super spicy or supercation but it had a very nice flavor and a very nice kick to it. It has chicken andouilleen and, there isn't any shrimp in it. It's still good regardless though. And it's a right size for an appetizer so you won't get full. I was looking for a place to go for an anniversary dinner and instead of trying to do something new and hip I decided to go with a tried & true option that in my over 10 years of living in Atlanta, had just never tried. I've always heard good things about Rathbun's and my experience did not disappoint. We came on a fairly regular Thursday night. All of our food was on point and our waiter Ron did a great job with the recommendations. The "sleeper pick," as he called it, for our salad choice, was a mustard green salad with crunchy little bacon tasting pieces (prosciutto bites) with a vinaigrette that was perfect. I was surprised as I had expected these type of greens to be more bitter but was glad to try something different than my typical wedge, caesar, or beet salad - all of which I am sure are also tasty. We were able to split some of the sides into mini portions to try more things and I still felt like it was enough food. My wife wanted the sweet crispy brussels and I wanted the buffalo cauliflower so we got both and it was hard to say which one was better. Like everything we ate here both dishes were rich in flavor. We also shared the the charred jalapeno creamed corn, the signature side according to Ron, and it did not disappoint. We topped this off with a few tasty cocktails. For the main we shared a big dry-aged (cowboy) ribeye that was super tender and delightful. I liked the presentation with the plate on the stand, the jus, and pre-cut slices already divided up nicely for us to share. I am not a big truffel butter fan but my wife reported it to be mouth-watering with the steak. Finally, they offered us a dessert on the house for our anniversary, and we chose Rebecca's layer cake. Again, it did not disappoint and was plenty to share between the two of us and was super rich my wife couldn't finish it. Everything here is à la carte so we were well informed going in. Prices were expected for a trendy in-town/beltline location like this so we didn't have any sticker shock. With the service as it was and the food quality we had, I could understand the reputation for Rathbun's and will be dreaming about coming back. read more

I'm very disappointed with our recent experience at Kevin Rathbun Steak because of the service we received from Erica. My wife and I were there on a double date with her sister and boyfriend, and from the beginning we felt like we were being treated dismissively, as if we were kids, despite all of us being in our 30s. We sat on the outdoor patio, which is first come, first served. When we took an open table, Erica initially seemed unwilling to serve us and acted as though we were sitting there without permission. I had to speak with a manager before we were properly attended to. Later, we ordered a $150 steak that arrived overcooked. We noticed it immediately and asked for a replacement before touching it. Instead of apologizing or handling the situation professionally, Erica appeared frustrated, snatched the plate away, and walked off without explaining what was happening. Throughout the meal, the attitude and assumptions made us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. Kevin Rathbun is usually a place we enjoy, which made this experience even more disappointing. This restaurant is an absolute must!!! We've been coming here for years and it never disappoints. The atmosphere is always nice here. It's an open kitchen concept so one can get a view of "behind the scenes." Lively, but intimate. The eggplant fries with tobacco and powdered sugar phenomenal. Salt and Pepper Shrimp are really nice. The Serrano pepper is there, but not overly spicy. The tang is a great finishing touch. The filet with peppercorn sauce on the side was fantastic and perfectly cooked. The pepper corn sauce could be improved with more coarsely ground peppercorns. There's an element of surprise when one bites into a partially crushed peppercorn. I haven't been here in about a year or so. So it was time for a return. This is one of my favorite steakhouses in the city. The decor, the ambience, the service.... Are top of the list for me. Parking is hassle free unlike some restaurants in the city. I only eat steak from great steakhouses. I had a taste for steak ... so voila. I had already stalked the menu before arrival. lol. Don't judge me! My mouth was set on the NY strip. That's my preferred cut. So I had that along with jalapeño corn and brussel sprouts. Oh... let me back up. Absolutely recommend! Get - the A5, the Brussels sprouts, the Boulevardier, a server named Jesse Avoid - nothing! My critiques below are simply things I feel could elevate my experience even more. My wife and I sat in the cellar. Very romantic setting! We were greeted promptly and professionally by Jesse P. who did a phenomenal job the entire night. We had the Japanese Spare Rib, the Thick Cut Bacon, and the oysters on the half shell. The flavors were fantastic top to bottom. The bacon lacked that little bit of crispy texture, some will prefer that. The Japanese Spare rib was incredibly tender, so tender that I could barely differentiate the sauce from the meat. I would have enjoyed it more if there had been some texture to this dish as well, maybe a nori strip or toasted sesame. The wedge salad was adequate neither my wife nor myself were blown away. They had a rib cap feature that was almost as good as StripSteak Las Vegas rib cap (possibly just as good). My wife had the A5 filet feature - fantastic! Our accompaniments were the potato purée, scalloped sweet potatoes, and the Brussels sprouts. I enjoyed them all, my wife didn't love the sweet potatoes. For dessert the sticky toffee pudding, as usual for sticky toffee pudding outside of Britain, the taste was great and the texture was gritty. read more
