Just left our charter with Captain Jeff and 1st Mate Cassie. Had a great time snorkeling on the reef! Everything was relaxing and laid back, which was just what we needed. If your thinking about going with one of those big company charters where your on the boat with a bunch of other folks, rethink your choice and go with someone that cares whether or not you you have a great time. Had an great time on the two hour sunset tour with Captain Pete and first mate Emily! They provided a large cooler for our drinks, some snacks and great conversation! We were able to sit in seats near the captain, sit on cushions up front towards the bow, or stand by the railings. Emily was super helpful if we needed anything. It was an incredibly fun experience sailing and snorkeling with Captain Albert and First Mate, Felicia. First time on a sail boat and snorkeling, all I can say it was worth it! Both were so helpful and comforting, which made the entire trip worth while. It was a bit nerve-racking to snorkel in the ocean (as first timers), but two guides came in the water with us. This was one of our best family trips ever!!! We booked WildThing for a 3 night stay including 24 hours on the water, with a captain and first mate. When we arrived everything was perfect. We got a tour of the boat with directions on how to work the kitchen and bathrooms by our first mate, Sandy. We had a quick follow up conversation about food, since my son has allergies, and exchanged phone numbers so we could converse more while she shopped for us. I had previously sent an email about our preferences, but she texted me labels to be sure. Boat kitchens are a little tricky and sometimes scary for first timers but I had no problems at all working the stove and freezer. The AC was super cold, I actually had to turn it off for a bit, and we booked in July, so that's impressive! The beds and bedding were comfortable and we had enough extra towels for 5 more people! The location of the marina was amazing, right in the center of town with easy access to everything. The marina showers and bathrooms were right off the slip as was the parking. That's the accommodations. This is not a luxury boat, but it was a great 2 bedroom with kitchen, floating hotel room with all the amenities. We were very comfortable for our whole stay. Our Captain Vinnie brought us out to sea on our excursion which included 2 snorkeling stops at beautiful reefs on the first day, and a quick morning swim and snorkel the second day on our way back. The visibility was amazing and we saw turtles, dolphin, barracuda, parrot fish, 3 of the best reefs I've ever seen, a gorgeous sunset, a billion stars, and a private island. All our meals and snacks were provided and prepared by Sandy, and they all were restaurant quality. Fish dip, salsa, pork tenderloin, roasted potatoes, candied carrots, fruit, coffee, bagels.... All delivered to us where we sat. She also waited on us by readying our gear, hanging towels, provided fresh water to rinse with, I just felt so taken care of! Captain Vinnie entertained us with sailing story's and driving lessons for my son, and he even jumped in and showed us the reef and provided a waterproof camera for our underwater shots! Both our crew members were kind, patient, and even playful with my ten year old son. 26 hours with someone else's kid can get to be a little much for anyone, but if they were ever frustrated or annoyed they never let on in the slightest! My son literally climbed on every surface, like a monkey, in and out of hatches, up down and sideways, with the captain chuckling and encouraging his exploration:) Only every now and then did the captain remind him "one hand for the boat." We had extremely calm seas and winds, which worked well for any potential sea sickness, and snorkeling, but not so great for using the sails. We ran the engine for most our trip, which worked well with no incident and didn't give off the diesel smell that normal power boats do. Once out at sea the AC doesn't work, but even in July the breeze supplied all the cool we needed. The WildThing has enough well appointed hatches to catch the wind and keep the cabin mild enough for sleeping. The canopy on top provides enough shade for everyone to stay out of the sun if they want to. I can't keep going on and on about the amazing experience but I'm missing the beautiful scenery on our way north! What a Horrible experience!!!!!! Booked a 4 night stay & sail vacation with Captain Albert on the Moondance. Key West Sailing Adventures charges a high price for low quality accomodations & a lot of inconveniences. First, Our boat wasnt ready when we arrived, So we were shuffled around for 2 days. We brought food to cook and save money but a lot of it went bad due to the lack of cooking supplies on their new boat, and the fact that we couldnt board the new boat at all for most of the second day because they were preparing it.. Both boats we stayed on had problems. Neither was well kept in any way, which pissed us off because for the price we are paying to sleep on the boat, it should be in much better condition, with better amenities. One boat had a broken A/C that kept us up all night, the other had overflowing toilets. We complained about them , & the mate Frenchie took a look at them, flushed them a few times and said they looked fine. You could tell the mates couldnt care less. We complained the next day, & the captain Chris said that the tank needed to be emptied but never did it. The toilets wound up dripping brown fecal water all over the bathroom floor and stinking the place up. On the morning of our sail trip, the boat was late a few hours, then they wasted two hours of our time as Captain Chris tried to fix the broken Main sail. In the end we We never sailed. We motored SLOWLY to some little island, but by that time, , we only had 40 minutes to swim and see the beach before sunset. We were told they would receive 28 hours of sailing time, and got none. When we complained about our trip, captain Alberts was rude, unapologetic, and denied all wrong doing. Avoid at all cost!! Coming from California, we were looking forward to enjoying beautiful Key West both on shore and off. Talks with the staff of Key West Sailing Adventures were pleasant enough, and of course we were promised an unforgettable three day sailing experience. I guess I can't argue with the unforgettable part! Before we even arrived in Key West, we were contacted by Captain Albert to let us know that the boat was being 'repaired' and we wouldn't be able to board at the promised time. No worries we thought, we can just explore and bide our time doing other things. When we tried to ascertain the nature of repairs, we were told not to worry and all would be fixed prior to our departure the next day and our overnight stay in the harbor would be unaffected. Arriving at the boat, we were met by a crew member who welcomed us aboard and assisted us in getting settled. From the smell of gasoline and sewage in the living quarters I assume that the 'repair work' we weren't privy to had something to do with the motor and plumbing. Over the next few days my suspicions would be confirmed. The first night on board, in the harbor, we were unable to sleep inside as the smell of gasoline fumes and sewage was overpowering. We slept on deck, on a lounge chair mattress that was rolled up there. Romantic; yes. Uncomfortable; yes. Little did I know at this time that this would be the only place I could sleep for the next three days. The second day of the booked vacation was supposed to begin with sailing, snorkeling, exploring, etc. All the things you see in the brochure and web page. We didn't get off to a good start when Captain Albert called and told us that our departure would be delayed due to the fact that our selected menu of 'Surf and Turf' for four adults was proving harder to find that he anticipated. Mind you, this is something that they offered us, not anything we requested off the menu. It was suggested to us we head down to the local pool bar, have a drink, and check back in on the boat in several hours. Again, not a big deal. The pool was refreshing and the beers were cold, even if the DJ was blaring music at a deafening level and most of the water was taken up by hormone filled college '21 somethings' playing beer pong on the bar provided, floating beer pong tables. Entertaining to say the least. As suggested, we killed a couple of hours and headed back to the boat, only to find an 'irritated' crew wanting to know where we had been and informing us that we had now delayed the start of the sail. Really? Was there no communication with the crew and Captain Albert? Finally leaving the dock we sailed out into the beautiful Key West waters and marveled at the coastline and cruise ships anchored nearby. Although late (our fault?) we were heading out to a reef to snorkel. It was a beautiful day and the weather was perfect. We sailed for about an hour, arrived at the designated reef, turned around and sailed right back to Key West. When we asked the captain if we would be able to snorkel, he informed us that the 'engine was acting up' and he didn't feel comfortable staying out in open water. We set sail for the harbor we had just left. Oh, did I mention that this was a 'training' session for our first mate, who had aspirations of becoming a captain herself? The captain spent most of his time below deck while we sailed out and back, yelling up at the first mate as she did her best to take care of us and steer us in the right direction. Of course we weren't allowed to enter the cabin of the boat as the captain removed the stairs to work on the engine. Through all this I kept wonder, aren't we sailing? Why is he working on the engine the whole time? A couple of hours later we arrived back in the harbor, but instead of taking us to the dock we anchored in the harbor for our 'overnight at sea' adventure. Again, we weren't able to enter the cabin area of the boat, and once we were anchored both the captain and first mate become obsessed with repairing the engine. We were left topside to ourselves and our own devices. We would have much preferred to head into the dock so we could enjoy another night in Key West, but contractually we needed to be provided a 'dinner cooked aboard boat' while at sea. More like forced to eat while anchored in the harbor. The dinner was excellent, and the first mate did a great job preparing steak and lobster in the substandard kitchen accommodations. Engine work continued through the evening. Night two was spend above deck. Gas smell was incredibly strong. I could keep going, but it doesn't get any better. At the end of our 'adventure', I guess i can say it definitely was an adventure! Unfortunately Captain Albert was indignant when we requested that we be compensated for our substandard sail, alluding to the fact that he had attorneys to take care of any issues we might force.
