Money talks. In…read more1929, a beautiful new stained glass Tiffany domed clock was installed at the First National Bank of Bar Harbor. The clock cost $3,350. Forty years later in 1969, a demolition crew was poised to remove the clock which was not being properly serviced. The chimes had already been removed. A crew and crane were ready to remove the clock. However, a woman by the name of Elizabeth Owens did not want the clock removed. She apparently stormed into the bank president's office and demanded that the clock remain. "If you remove the clock from the bank, I'll remove my money," she threatened the bank president. She had a lot of money. She also had a lot of friends. Her friends also had a lot of money. The clock remained. Interesting story about the green Tiffany glass clock that still chimes on Main Street in downtown Bar Harbor.
