We visited this restaurant on a Saturday evening and had reserved a table through OpenTable for 7:15 PM. Interestingly, although OpenTable showed no reservation availability after our time slot, we noticed several vacant tables about 15-20 minutes after we arrived around 7:20 PM. The restaurant makes a strong first impression with its attractive décor and inviting ambiance. The menu appears to span multiple cuisines, offering a wide range of choices for diners with varied tastes. Despite the size of the restaurant, there were plenty of attentive waitstaff, and service was prompt throughout our visit. Most importantly, the food was flavorful and well prepared. Combined with the pleasant atmosphere and efficient service, it made for an enjoyable dining experience. We would certainly consider returning. read more

Very disappointing experience at Khati Peeti. The biggest issue was the extremely slow service. We waited far longer than expected for our food, and throughout the wait, no one came to update us or even acknowledge the delay. Almost 1 hour for couple of dishes. What made the experience worse was the complete lack of an apology or any effort to make things right. Delays can happen in any restaurant, but good customer service means communicating with customers and showing that you value their time. Unfortunately, that didn't happen here. The food wasn't enough to make up for the poor service. There are plenty of other Indian restaurants that treat their customers with more respect. Our late Sunday afternoon lunch was disappointing here. Appetizers: Excited about the sizzlers, we tried both veg and non-veg north-Indian versions and found them to be tasteless. The non-veg had a pungent smell from the fish that got to all the other meat in the platter. Wouldn't recommend either. Additionally we tried the sev poori chaat option, was sweet but good. Mains: absolutely have to try the pepper chicken! Delicious!! Don't get the madras chicken and get the chicken korma instead. The gravies were distinct and had a good taste for both pepper and korma. We recently tried this new Indian restaurant with family, and overall it was a great experience. My only complaint is the menu. Why do some restaurants make menus so big? It felt like a huge book, and we spent quite a bit of time flipping through pages trying to figure out what to order. A simpler, more streamlined menu would make the experience much easier. Once we decided, though, the food and drinks did not disappoint. We started with the non-alcoholic Jamun shots, which were absolutely delicious, and a Mango Martini, which was just okay. For food, we ordered the Fish Amritsari, Paneer Tikka, Hakka noodles, Biryani, and a Falooda drink. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and well-prepared. The customer service was excellent, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout our visit. The atmosphere makes it a great spot for family gatherings, celebrations with girlfriends, or a fun night out. They also have several creatively named signature drinks that add a playful touch to the experience. Came here as my friend wanted to check this out. We were so surprised with the interior setting which has very nice cultural feel and decoration. They offer huge selection of northern & southern Indian as well as indo-Chinese dishes. Tried their Hakka noodle with taste better with their chili sauce mixin, the potato dosa was good and the veggie Manchurian meatball was a little on chewy side but equally tasty. You get option to have it in gravy or dry sauce. We opted dry sauce. Will be back to try their onion rava dosa next time as well as their selection of cocktails such as watermelon mojito which pique my curiosity. read more

Been here a few times. Service can be a little slow at times, but everyone is very kind and friendly. The owner is usually around and checks in with guests, which is nice. It does get pretty busy, but things move fairly quickly overall. One thing to note--ordering can sometimes feel a bit delayed, so it's best to place everything at once. The flavors are solid and feel authentic, with a lot of variety on the menu. The sizzlers are definitely a must-try. A truly standout experience from start to finish. Khaati Peeti here in Fremont immediately draws you in with its authentic Indian design from the moment you enter: the framed carpets on the walls, the beautiful arches framing each seating area, and that warm, private, almost cocoon-like atmosphere. It feels thoughtfully crafted, not staged. Loved it! The food delivered just as impressively. Every dish was enjoyable, but the lamb chops were on another level - oversized compared to your standard entree, perfectly marinated, and richly layered with Indian spices. Garlic nunn and the amount of it were enough to feed the army. At the entrance, the push bar sets the tone with an elite selection of scotches and Indian whiskeys available for purchase, which adds a premium feel right from the start. Nice. The true highlight, though, was the hospitality. Snigdha deserves a major shout-out for outstanding service. Consistently positive, attentive, and genuinely warm. And respect to Shreedhar, the owner, who stays on the floor, checks on tables, brings out the food, and creates a sense of real connection with guests. That level of presence is rare and elevates the entire experience. A few drink notes for future guests: the cardamom old fashioned was excellent, the espresso martini was rich and delicious, and the new ultramarine blue candy drink, I think, should be served as a dessert cocktail, was fun and on the sweeter side. Amazing Indian food, like no other in the Bay Area. We have been looking to have this kind of Indian food forever. And we finally found it. The ambience, the taste, the service. Absolutely loved my visit to Khaati Peeti Restaurant & Bar (formerly Sankalp Fremont)! The food could have been better. The service and ambiance is good. The menu is huge and exciting, so we ordered a sizzler, pani pur, a main course and a few naan. However, after eating my first bite, I was sure this isn't the place for me. The quality of ingredients isn't there and the food is heavy on the palette. As an example, the pani puris were soggy that even my kid refuse to eat them. None were holding water, the paneer was too tight and bland, the kebabs were too dense. The only saving grace was there naan's. I did ask the server for suggestions on their best recommendations for veg. So, if it isn't good in the end, it isn't because I chose wrong. I loved the pan-tini ( non - alocoholic) it was not overly sweet, very fizzy refreshing drink with bits of pan leaf which was a delight when you bite into it. Mango chilli drink was awful though. Dahi puri was served quickly, it was very sweet for me. The 65 sizzler was flavourful, the chutney complimented the assortments of paneer, Gobi and veg pieces well. We had ordered garlic naan to eat with the sizzler but it was sent to us 15 min after we ate the starter. :/ Then we had to wait another 15 min munching on the cold bread while we waited for paneer balti and tandoori roti. The staff offered to take back the cold naan which was much appreciated. Paneer balti was very indulgent. It creamy and on the sweeter side. Garlic naan was delicious. Came here on Sunday afternoon for milestone birthday lunch. Not first time, been here before when they had opened while back. It has good ambiance and decor compared to other places in bay area. Expanded menu too so if some wants south Indian and others North Indian cuisine, it can serve both which is why we choose it this time. Food - in non-veg, my son ordered lamb and it was good. Rice and dal tadka was also good. Cocktails were fine too *I didnt like Tamrind one, too bitter. South Indian food, I would strongly recommend not to order here. I had pasty aloo filling in it, apparently it was stale. Likely dosa cover was fine and daal but chutney were stale too - felt it was frozen in same fancy copper container and provided with water and no taste. This is second time, and I regret it didnt remember first time experience badly while trying to stomach it. Again, that was bad decision. I have dealt with stomach flu and sickness for 36 hours after eating it! Never again. Last thing. We ordered chole bhatore for my husband (his bday wish and they knew it). It never came. All 3 of us finished food and he didnt. We asked and told runner made a mistake and gave to someone else. After almost an hour. We canceled that. Decided to drop in because our regular place is closed. I've never eaten at a "higher quality Indian restaurant" (as one of the previous reviews stated) before, so I didn't really know what to expect! The interior is intricately decorated, which gave us something to look at while we waited for our food. The space feels a little cramped when seating a table of two. The waitress was attentive & the food came out within 15 minutes. (However, it's worth noting that there were only two other parties aside from us). We ordered the samosa chaat, one garlic naan (which you can order plain or with butter), butter chicken (which came with a bowl of rice) and the veg dum biryani, which came out to $56 before tip! The samosa chaat came with chickpeas & was spicier than expected, but not as sweet as other places I've had (probably due to less tamarind chutney). The butter chicken was also not as sweet and a bit bland as well, not a huge tomato taste. The veg biryani was packed with lots of veggies & aromatics. The taste was a little sour and bitter for my taste and I didn't love constantly biting into the cloves and star anise. It was pretty flavorful though. First time after the name change from Sankalp to Khaati Peeti. We were here in the weekday evening so got the table quickly without any waiting. Service was quick too. We wanted to try their South Indian food but we started with Sev Batata Dahi Puri. We had Pavbhaji Dosa and Onion Uttapa. SPDP was good, I also liked Pavbhaji Dosa. Onion Uttapa wasn't on the menu. It was originally Onion Tomato Uttapa but I asked if I can get just the normal Onion Uttapa and I guess that modification (?) didn't work. It was too thick and wasn't that tasty with very little onion compared to any onion Uttapa you will get at other restaurants. Other than that good experience! read more

Being Fremont resident, this week I went there first time to try out their food. My first impression wasn't good as their decor was too overwhelming. Everywhere the wood carving felt like I have reached to South India in a typical South Indian temple. Secondly, when I opened their menu it was 19 page booklet. Sankalp hails from India, and its Fremont location offers an elegant, refined atmosphere and a gigantic menu of both North and South Indian dishes. My favorite dish was the Three Barrel Dosa, a plate of not one, not two, but three rolled dosas, each with different fillings! The varieties included Mysore (spicy red chutney), Keerai (spinach paste), and Kara Mura (dusted with spicy milagai podi), all served with sambar, tomato chutney, and coconut chutney. My favorite of the three was the Kara Mura, as the milagai podi (spice powder) added a nice spicy flavor to the dosa. One of their most popular entrees was the Paneer Balti, which came with paneer cubes in two different curries served side-by-side in a metal balti container. One sauce was a creamy brown onion gravy, and the other was a creamy tomato gravy, both of which had a savory flavor and went nicely with a side of basmati rice and bullet roti (whole wheat flatbread topped with chopped green chilies), though I didn't quite get what was so special about this dish. Finally, the Mix Grill Sizzler was a sizzling iron plate of meats cooked in a tandoor oven, including chicken malai, chicken tikka, tandoori chicken, and fish ajwaini, each of which was nicely marinaded and cooked to juicy, smoky perfection. Do yourself a favor and save your time and money--do not visit. We visited last weekend with a group of 7, including 3 kids under seven who were starving after playing all day. We were excited to try a new spot, but going here was a huge mistake. We placed our order around 8:15 PM, and the food didn't arrive until 9:45 PM--a full hour and a half later. We checked in every 10 minutes, pleading with the staff to at least bring the kids' meals out first. Every time, we were brushed off with, "Just 5 more minutes, it's almost ready." Unbelievably, our food only arrived right as we finally gave up and were walking out the door. To top it off, management showed zero accountability. Not a single apology, no discount for the atrocious delay, and they had the nerve to auto-include a 22% gratuity on the bill. Absolute worst customer service experience. We were curious about this spot when we see it on the way to the Hubs shopping area. There is a nice little outside eating area but once you get inside, it's beautiful! It's like you stepped into a grand royal Indian palace. The decor and ambience is really nice. The food was good. We ordered two appetizers, the idly and the sizzling veggie 65 appetizer plate. The veggie sizzling plate was great! We liked the Manchurian balls and the cauliflower and the red sauce was kicking. It needed some basmati rice which we ordered to make it more of a complete meal and it did. The idly was ok. Not as flavorful as the other dish. It had more of a subtle flavor which wasn't something we expected coming from an Indian resultant. The menu is large! BUT, there are a lot of vegetarian options which is great for any vegetarians like my partner. We will be coming back to try more dishes at some point. read more

My husband baby and I had dinner at this restaurent for Diwali. I was looking for a good dine in indian food place and stumbled upon this. Ambiance: Just wow, it felt like we were transported back to India dining inside a palace. Loved the vibe, the decore, ambiance, the temple like feeling, the furniture, paintings, lit up diyas and everything. the soothing instrumental soundtrack playing in the background added a nice touch. Just for this Id go there again. Food: this piece is alright. not good not bad either. Tandoori was nice and juicy. hot and sour soup was alright. Assorted Vegetable Barbeque Sizzler 1/5 $24.99 (An assortment of barbecued Hara Bhara kababs, Paneer Tiranga, Gobi tikka and Aloo Tikki) It was served without hara bhara kebab and aloo tikki. When we flagged it, they just took it back and brought it out again with the correct items. Aloo Tikki was mostly frozen. White Paneer tikka was good and soft but other paneer pieces had food color green and red that looked so unnatural that we decided to skip that. Gobi tikki also was colored unusally red. Hara bhara kebab tasted good but I doubt if that was also from a frozen section. 3. Triple Schezwan Fried Rice 3/5 The noodles and rice was good, the manchurian and gravy was also alright but the manchurian quantity was surely less for the amount of rice and noodles. 3 small pieces of manchurian, I think 4 would have been better to share between 2 people. 4. Sizzling Brownie 3/5 $ 13.99 (Chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream on a sizzler plate served with chocolate sauce) The star of the show, the other reviews raved about this dish and it met the expectations. I was let down to find big chunks of ice in the ice cream suggestive of improper ice cream storage. Their menu has a lot of variety so it was a bit confusing to decide what to get. I wonder if that also plays a part in terms of kitchen missing out ingredients in dishes as it happed with us. May be next time we will try more street food style dishes or south indian varieties to see if the experience differs based on food category. read more

The ambience is like being in a small palace in India, with the architecture and paintings on the wall. The booths are vinyl, yet slightly comfortable with the decor being very old world Indian. Located at the Fremont Hub, which seems to be going downhill, with lots of empty stores and several homeless people walking around. We came for the 4ft long dosa but after seeing the price of $49.99, we lost interest. $50 for something that costs pennies to make (in terms of the ingredients), seems to be unreasonable. We ordered the Super Paper Dosa, which may have been around 1.5ft long. It came with a side of sambar, which was excellent and one of the best tasting we have had in quite some time, the tomato chutney was good and have a little zing to it. The coconut chutney was good and similar to other places. We wanted one more dish (NOTE: there are probably over 200 menu items so it can take a while to figure out what you want). We decided to get the mix grill sizzlers, which had two pieces of tandoori chicken, one large tandoori fish ajwaini (says it comes with sauce so I assume the small bowl of chutney was the sauce), several pieces of malai chicken and some pieces of chicken tikka. The dosa was probably the crispiest dosa I have ever had. It wasn't piping hot when we got it but it was still crisp. The sizzler was good, however nothing to write home about. There was no real spice to the meat. The price is quite expensive for the amount received. $39.98 for the sizzler and $14.99 for the dosa was overpriced IMO. They don't expect any top as the server said they don't get to keep it. The dosa probably costs pennies to make and the meat is probably less than 1 lb. Again writing very objectively.... 1. Most Important before I even begin the review, the most negative and frustrating part of Sankalp is you cant eat there without waiting for 45 minutes so please go only between 5:00pm and 6:00pm and have a beautiful early dinner. 2. Read point 1 again since we were frustrated and returned back thrice hearing about the 45 min to 1 hour wait when we went at 7:00pm or later. 3. Now that neither they can do anything about point 1 and 2, they also dont do doordash or togo so sit down and enjoy the fantastic food is the only way here. Also prices are steeper than other places but again I feel its worth the quality. 4. We are vegetarian so we ordered Sizzler which was great. Spicy was the way to go. 5. Paneer Balti is another great dish and it comes with 2 gravies and paneer but again dont order when its house full at the restaurant 6. Butter Roti and Garlic Naan was excellent too 7. Veg Schezwan Noodles were also yummy and again spicy is way to go if you can handle it. 8. Veg Makhanwala came very close to how its served in Bombay so again kudos to the chef 9. The Kulfi Falooda is also excellent. 10. Kachori was the only appetizer we found was not per our expectations but the sweet yoghurt they gave along was to die for. I ordered it twice after that and such a treat like a sweet lassi which is not thick and like "Panchamvrut" if you ever sat in any puja 11. We had the Chinese non veg sizzler, Chinese bhel, sizzling brownie with ice cream and a mango lassi. The mango lassi was okay, but the other three dishes were absolutely fantastic. The non-vegetarian Chinese sizzler had a portion of chicken and lamb. The lamb preparation is an odd man out on the platter, flavours are inclined more towards mughlai. Solid experience, absolutely massive menu, a very solid 4.5 stars. With options for meat, eaters, vegetarians, and Jain diets it's really something for everybody here. Most dishes were very good although the mango lassi was a bit bland and missed the mark. I enjoy the chicken hakka noodles that had just the right amount of flavor Service was pretty good, they checked in plenty and the dishes came out very quickly. Note that they bring things as soon as they're ready instead of all at the same time so family style ordering works best here. Really nice table settings glassware give a more authentic feel. The interior decor and vibe are way more elegant than I was expecting, and maybe even a little bit excessive and trying too hard. I went on a Saturday at 6 and the place started to have a little bit of a line by 645. This place will do great business especially for the location. Poor quality food and service. Their appetizers were good, specially the chaat. Chicken and paneer were soft. However goat biriyani was salty and spicy. Rice was cooked well but goat was hard. Seems old and heated multiple times. Kadai chicken was so bad we could not eat. Salty and chicken quality was poor. Wine was the same story, 40$ wine taste like 7$ wine. They charge gratuity 18% for 5 people with service so poor. No water refill, tgey opened the wine bottle and asked us to pour ourselves. I am never going there again. Came here when the restaurant was called something else, I can't remember the name. I came with my parents for lunch and we were seated right away. The interior is quite bougie looking, very nice decor and the food presentation is nice as well - not your typical Indian restaurant. Their menu was extremely extensive, maybe too many options even? Talk about decision fatigue. We ordered a mix of items, everything was decent but nothing was too noteworthy in my opinion. Additionally, my dad ordered chai - we had to remind them 3 or 4 different times when we saw that it was not coming out with the rest of our items. In the end, we told them to cancel the chai since we were already done with our meal. I've found that when restaurants offer too many dishes, it's hard to make any of them perfect - that's what we experienced here unfortunately. And due to the extravagant interior design, the prices of the dishes matched this, resulting in a hefty bill. I don't mind spending money on food, but I'd expect the food to be better if I am dishing out for a nice meal. read more
