A bit of trivia before we proceed: Did you know that Turkey is "birthplace" of shawarma? In fact, the name comes from the Turkish "çevirme", which means "turning".
Shawarma is made from strips of meat--with beef being the hands down favorite--skewered and roasted on a spit over a period of several hours. Add in a combination of vegetables, such as fresh cucumber, onion, tomato, lettuce, and cabbage; drizzle with garlic or yogurt dressing; top with grated cheese (optional), and that's a wrap!
Khaleb Shawarma is one of the more popular shawarma stalls in the metro. Eager to spread its passion for Mediterranean cuisine to Filipinos, it offers shawarma and kebab favorites at very affordable prices! At Php 50, you can already enjoy beef shawarma or kebab pita. The wrap, which resembles a cone more than a roll, is easy to eat on the go. It's delicious, too! For the rice lovers out there (aren't we all?), Khaleb Shawarma also offers shawarma rice, and chelo kebab.
Maybe it's the convenience of eating our basic food groups: grow, go, and glow in one meal. Or perhaps it's just the mouthwatering interaction of warm bread, juicy meat, and crunchy vegetables that has our taste buds all fired up.
Whatever the reason, one thing seems certain: shawarma in the metro is here to stay! read more
