Come for the tailoring, stay for the "Khanh portrait museum" This is a must see kind of place. The establishment has large posters of Khanh every where you look...just strange to me. As for the business, Khanh doesn't speak English very well and comes off as rude. The workmanship is ok from what I can tell, albeit later than promised and a little over priced. 2 bridesmaid Dresses were given to him but he refused to take the hangers with them. I come to pick them up expecting them to be steamed and hanging so that they weren't wrinkled when I pick them up and so that I could examine the work. Nope. The were pulled out of this tiny box, I asked for the dresses to be steamed, he raises his voice to tell me he wasn't going to steam them. There is no language barrier, I speak the language. Rude, unprofessional, stop giving your customers wrinkled clothes that look like they haven't been taken care of when they were placed in your possession. The price may seem super cheap but the service is awful. I left a simple pair of black pants to be hemmed/fixed along the pant leg. He told me to come back a week later. That seemed a long time for a simple hem job but it was just $9. I come back on Saturday at 330 and there was another man there furious that he'd come back 3x and still not gotten his item fixed. We watched as he ambled about his hut looking for our items in his antiquated system of boxes with paper names. Wasn't until I pointed my box out that he got it. Then he told me to wait another half hour since the receipt said pick up at 4, which makes me wonder why have me wait a week if you weren't going to get started at all until I showed up? He finished up in 20 min before the 4pm deadline but it makes me wonder if I would have been told to come back like so many others who showed up during my wait. But then again, I didn't give him impossible next day timelines, either. just because you may have left a dress in a bag in the back of your car for a week, doesn't necessarily mean it becomes a massive emergency for this guy. Let's be reasonable, folks. and whether he uses scraps of paper and only accepts cash is his business... do you have any idea how much business is cost to accept credit cards and debit cards? The guy's tailor shop is in a damned Vintage Fotomat booth, for crying out loud. If he gets it done, that's all you should be focused on. Let's pull up our big boy and big girl panties and appreciate the fact that he's one of the 16 tailors left on the planet. Came here wed, april 12th..i gave him my dress pants, he took measurements and agreed to pick it up next week- same day. So the following week, wednesday, i came back and he said it aint ready yet. I was in a hurry that day, so i asked him if i can pick it up the following day thurs and he said yes and apologized. And now it's thursday, as soon as i pulled up to his parking lot,saw him standing outside staring at the clouds and as soon as he saw me, he ran inside and saying he needs 10more minutes to finish my pants, i saw him took the container where he kept my pants and it was at the same condition when i left it. I gave it a shot because i like to support small local businesses but this was by far the worse! he gave me a pick up date that was 5 days long for a simple hem. Then to go and pick up, it was even ready! nor had he even started on it!?! what!? so he tells me to come back later. I've used Mr. Khanh more times that I can remember. Never had a problem. He always has a big smile when I walk in.

This is lengthy but I wanted my experience to be known. On a Tuesday morning, I go to have 2 pants hemmed. Mr. Khan asks me to come back on the following Monday to pick them up. I thought to myself as to why it would take 6 days to hem 2 pants, but I said okay. Come Monday, I showed up promptly at 4:00 pm as he had written down on a receipt/ticket and apparently his store was closed. I come back the following morning, a few minutes after his store has opened. I give him my ticket and he says with an attitude, "Oh, you should've been here yesterday." I told him, "I was here yesterday." He came off really rude and had a raised tone when he spoke to me. He scrambles as he looks for the bin he placed my pants in which I found stacked on top of other bins. By the way, he never did get started on hemming my pants. He throws my pants on his table as he goes over measurements with a sour look on his face. He asks me to wait 10 minutes as he works on my pants. I then over hear him on the phone saying how he was closed on that Monday. How are you going to tell me that I should have been here yesterday (even though I was) when you were closed??? He yells for me to come back in. His friend, sitting in the shop watching TV, says to me, "Come on man HAHA." Overall, a very poor demonstration of customer service presented by Mr. Khan by his attitude, tone, rudeness, absence, and his inability to have something done on an agree upon time. read more

I went here twice, both times the clothes were not done when I went to pick them up (dates he had given me). The first time I didn't think anything of it, I said to myself "not a big deal, it happens". The second time, I was standing there first in line and he hadn't acknowledged that I was there. Then a man came in the door behind me and Kahn jumped up and said hi really loudly and totally bypassed me. Do not come here!!! He was incredibly rude. I had 7 items - 5 of which were simple such as move a button or hem pants he needed 7 days. I came back 9 days later and 3 of the 7 items were finished. He said to come back at 6pm that night. I came back 2 days later and he still hadn't started the remaining items. When I was leaving, a women was also there for her 3rd time to attempt to pick up. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!!! The man who works there is completely incompetent and has a very poor grasp of English. Khanh Alterations is a small shop on Mira Mesa Boulevard next to Arby's and close to the Black Mountain Road intersection. I dropped a pair of pants off (to be hemmed) on Wednesday, July 3rd. The employee (owner?) told me the pants would be ready at 6 pm that day. I said that I would try to come back at 6 pm, but that I might not be able to come back until the following day. I also asked him what time the shop closes and whether they will be open Thursday, July 4th. He said they close at 6:30 pm and that, yes, they will be open on the 4th of July. I came back at 6 pm on Wednesday. As I approached the shop I saw him and another man eating a large meal inside. He said, "we're closed". I responded, "but you told me my pants would be ready at 6 and that you don't close until 6:30". He said, "no, we close at 6". Then he searched for and finally found my pants. They were crumpled up on the counter--UNDONE. Then he said, "come back tomorrow". Exasperated, I said, "okay". Then, on the 4th of July, I drove back to the shop at 4 pm (the time he told me to come back). I then discovered that the place was CLOSED. NOBODY WAS THERE! Finally, on Friday, July 5th, I drove back to his shop at 1 pm. The pants STILL weren't done. He then scrambled to hem them while I waited for 10 minutes. What a bonehead! I'll never take my business to Khanh Alterations again. And I strongly suggest that you go somewhere else too. read more

I needed a dress hemmed for my friend's wedding that I was a bridesmaid in. I wasn't sure where to go because I have never taken any of my clothes in to be altered before. I saw a little hole in the wall place not to far from where I live. It's right next to Arby's. I should have checked yelp first. Big mistake! The man there said it would be $40 dollars to hem the dress. I thought that was kind of expensive but I was running out of time and decided to go ahead anyway. I dropped the dress off Wednesday evening and was told to come back that same Friday. I came back on Friday night to get my dress and no one was there. I was kind of annoyed but luckily it was on my way home from work so I wasn't too upset about it. I went back the following morning to go pick it up. He hands me the dress and it's folded up in the plastic bag.....Really????? I was like what the???? I am in a wedding and this is how he is going to give me this garment back??? Where did the hanger it was on go??? I went to pay and come to find out they only take cash. OMG!!! Honestly it's 2012 how do you not have a credit card machine?? Even Tammy the ice cream lady in Mira Mesa has a credit card machine. I had to go to the ATM and come back. I now was now running late and didn't have time to try the dress back on. Come to find out the reason it wasn't on a hanger was because the dress was uneven. It was totally longer on one side. Instead of going back and fixing his mistake he chose to fold it up and hide it. I was pissed!! By the time I realized the mistake It was too late to try and get it fixed. I phoned him a few days later and told him how I thought it was unprofessional etc. I wasn't yelling at him or anything and he hung up on me. Horrible horrible experience. I came in here because it's close to home & I needed a few alterations done on a dress I wanted to wear to a festival. I wanted it to be hemmed and get a slit put in on the left side. I came in, he had me put the dress on, I told him what I wanted & he quoted me $28 and said it would be done in a week. That sounded perfectly fine to me. When I came in to pick up the dress at the time he told me to come in (4pm), he said the dress wasn't ready yet. He became very frustrated with me and was trying to explain to me that it was too hard to put a slit in it. I told him that if it was too hard for him I would take it somewhere else. He said "no no no" then told me he would do the slit for $10 more. I said no. He then took my dress and did a crappy job of a slit in 5 total minutes and then handed it to me. He mumbled to a friend or coworker that was there with him and I walked out. My dress was ruined. Not coming back. Don't come here. read more

i took my pants here to be hemmed (saturday morning) the jerk in there probably the owner said it was going to be done tomorrow i said ok, no worries how about sunday i can come by...he says ok after 4pm - i go to pick up my pants...he is renovatiion the place by himself blood between his forehead and he says i am not done - i said i need my pants i gave you two days... i said i want my pants back and i will go somewhere else! he says its all packed up in bags which they were because he was renovating this place by himself! i was livid - i said give me my shi* i will take it somewhere else and he ignores me so, i said to myself calm down and he said come back tuesday so, i told I will be back on tuesday and if he is not done with my stuff - i am DONE with this asshol*. Do not get anything altered here! You've been warned. The sign says "same day" but that' absolutely inaccurate. I took a dress here to be hemmed on a Saturday, he told me it'd be ready next Thursday. I went on Thursday; the dress wasn't ready. By Saturday, the dress was lying there unfinished. When I got there he threw his eyeglasses on the table angrily, as though it was my fault that his machine was broken. He is extremely rude. He was not happy about the situation. I was curious about this tailor, so I decided to walk in with my belly dance costume. This older Asian man was there, and he started out really rude to me! I was holding up my costume to show him and explain what needed to be done and he scolded me to "let me see it," which meant put it on his table. Then he spread it out a little and then shook his head and said he couldn't do it. So, I gathered up my stuff, feeling like it was the biggest mistake to walk in there, and then suddenly he smiles, looks for a plastic bag for my costume and says "that's better." It was a really strange, awful experience and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I ended up driving to Bobi's Tailoring, since I was going to Trader Joe's. There were two women there working at their machines, and one of them, Co, came up to me and helped me immediately. I will find out in a week if their work is good, but the point here is SERVICE. Khan, or whoever that was at Khan's Alterations, did not have common etiquette or manners and if that place ever closes down, there would be no loss to Mira Mesa. Still my favorite is Mesa Clothing and Alterations for my dresses and pants, but my second might be Bobi's for my belly dance costumes. Khan's doesn't place at all. I would give it no stars if I could. 1 star is an insult to 1 star institutions. read more

But that's only half the problem...the older gent told me to come back another week and he would only charge me half off the original price which is now $6. So I come back, the shirt was done, handed him $10 and he tried to short change me. He said he only had $3. I said don't be like that, I gave you $10 so my change should be $4. He told me it would be ready at a certain day and time and I said ok but reminded him that I needed it for the day after the pick up date; he said it was fine. I showed up at the time he had said and it was closed. I waited for an hour and nothing. I ended up having to buy a different dress for my ceremony and when I returned AFTER the ceremony he said that he had gone to a wedding. If he had a wedding to go to then why did he tell me to pick up that same day? Overall horrible service, unprofessional, rude, and worst of all he is not honest. For you all you BJJ practitioners out there that need patches sewn on your gi this is the place to go. Went here from a recommendation by my buddy at the gym and I have never had my patches sewn on as quickly or as cheap. $12 for two patches and done in 10 minutes. Wow. Quality of work was good too. Usually I pay $15 for one patch and have to wait at least a couple of days. Not with this guy. I showed him the gi and he automatically said, "I understand". Had me fit it to show patch placement then said "Come back 10 minutes". Came back in 10 minutes and patches were sewn. I was amazed. I gave him an extra $5 for the quick work. Don't know why he has so many negative reviews. Must have caught him on a good day. He was accommodating and straight to the point and most importantly...quick! I would highly recommend. read more

Took a pair of pants for seam repair yesterday and khanh took care of it right away. I was there less than 5 minutes and he did a great job in fixing the ripped seam, and the price was so reasonable. My experience was 100% different than most of the reviews on here. I took a costume there on a Friday, late afternoon and I really needed it for an event early on Monday morning. He said $39 for the alteration and I should come at 5pm the following day to pick it up. I looked at the clock on Sat afternoon (it said 6:45pm!) and realized I completely forgot about picking up the costume! I rushed to the shop thinking I could get the number off the door and beg for him to come back. I pulled up and couldn't believe it but the doors were open and he was sitting there waiting for me! For 2 hours on a Sat evening he waited! I tried to pay him an extra $20 for his time but he wouldn't accept it. So I gave him $40 and he gave me $1 back! He was absolutely exact even though I inconvenienced him! I am so grateful! He saved me and my role in a company event Monday morning. The service I experienced with him was way above and beyond anything I could have expected! I will return and recommend him to others. PS the alteration itself was perfect! read more

just a simple review for this simple place, had pants altered, got it as promised, next day was no problem for me, just want to get it done anyway, been sitting in my closet for a while, talked to the owners son, Max , he's really cool and we said we used to go to this other place and he was really nice to say that the competitor is really great, that he had so much respect to this alteration place, well, the reason why we chose to go to this Khanh alteration was because it is so close to our house, i did not check yelp before going here, but am surprised with the reviews therefore i said, i will share my experience. it was a good one anyway. am i coming back ? of course !!! read more
