This will be our new go to sushi place! I really enjoyed the sushi I got from Kibo when I lived in Richmond hill. This location lived up to the expectations and had walk in deals which I absolutely adored. Like any good Scarborough restaurant there was also a cash discount. The fish was fresh and tasty. We ordered a dynamite roll, two spicy salmons, a spicy tuna, and an omega 3 roll. As a salmon lover, I was immediately drawn to such a fish heavy selection in maki rolls. There weren't a lot of seating to sit down and was more like a take out restaurant. Although unexpected, I enjoyed the food nonetheless. We simply drove home with the sushi and enjoyed it there. They gave plenty of condiments so it didn't feel like we missed out on the perks of being inside the restaurant. The sushi was packed with fish which makes the food even more desirable at this price point. Remember to bring cash so that you can also benefit from the small cash discount. Overall, I had a great experience at this restaurant. I also realized that there were lots of orders coming in as we waited. This is definitely a local favourite and has become my favourite. we came in late to the Bloor Kibo, admittedly. ordered salmon and chicken teriyaki don dishes. When we got home and eagerly opened our dishes, I was mortified by the chicken dish. It was a several slabs of tough meat, unseasoned, as if just defrosted The salmon was a bit more tender but no more seasoned. The dumpling was okay. Located in a strip plaza (entrance and parking in the back), I ordered the spicy tuna and spicy salmon special. They were fresh, delicious and cheap. All favourites in my book. The service was pleasant and they seem to have a good stream of customers ordering from all the pick ups I saw occurring. If you want to try out this place, try out the specials to see how you like this place before spending more money, but I guarantee you'll be back! Kibo means hope in Japanese, and I was hoping this would be my new favorite sushi place - it is! What a great find! Thank you to my fellow Yelper, Mike H. for his photos, which peaked my interest! I placed my order over the phone with Sarah, who was very pleasant, patient and helpful. Our order took 20 minutes, and was ready when we arrived. The entrance is from the back of the plaza, with plenty of parking spots. Sarah was just as pleasant in person, and wished us a very happy anniversary! We were surprised when we opened up our take-out order, and received complimentary gyoza dumplings (which were delicious)! Did you see the cute writing on the box? What a neat marketing idea! With so many options these days, little details like this go a long way, and are very much appreciated! Complimentary soup and salad were also included! The black dragon grande maki (10 pieces) and sashimi set A (15 pieces) were fresh and well prepared. No messy rolls here! They also have $5 cash and carry rolls, with many to choose from (includes tax). We tried the spicy salmon, spicy tuna, and California rolls (6 pieces each). Kibo Sushi is a SUPERB restaurant. Outstanding! They have several locations across downtown Toronto and one thing's for sure, you can come to expect good quality food and service from all Kibo sushi locations. Staff are always very friendly, polite and helpful. This makes for an easy ordering and takeout experience. The Sheppard Avenue East location is somewhat tucked away behind buildings and the entrance is not off the main sidewalk but behind the building. There are ample signs to point you in the right direction in case you can't find the place. The windows to the restaurant look amazing with a cute decorative design on the window saying KIBO MEANS HOPE. Such pretty artwork in the design! Kibo Maki Platter B - 42 pieces, Salmon Lovers Combo - 6 Spicy Salmon Roll, 3 Salmon Nigiri Sushi & 3 Salmon Sashimi were all excellent. Spicy Salmon Roll and Dynamite Roll came with fresh pickled ginger and fresh wasabi. From the online pictures from their website and uber, their sushi combo C (and other items) look like it could be from a really good quality omakase sushi restaurant (like Jabistro and Aoyama from Toronto, for example). But what you actually get is more like a run-of-the-mill, budget takeout sushi. Take a look at the attached picture that I have. It looked like it had a bbq eel, botan ebi (botan shrimp, which can be quite pricey at 3-4 bucks per piece), a piece that might have been Aji or Hamachi. I mean, from the picture, it felt like I would be getting a pretty premium sushi set for 17.95, which would be a great deal if that were true. But what you actually get looks like something from mall food court sushi. The shrimp is the cooked shrimp sushi, and the salmon, tuna, and what might have been red snapper sushi were.. not awful, but just plain. Again, something expected from a food court sushi. To be fair, that's kind of what's expected of 17.95 sushi. Again, it's not awful, but it's absolutely nowhere near what it looks like in the pictures. I kinda got what I paid for. This place is probably fine if you want budget sushi and you just want something to eat. But the reason I wanted to come try out this restaurant is because the website pictures looked so good. Must say having translucent packaging make it look pleasing too. I have ordered the aburi multiple times now. Not many places have aburi. Since then, no Scarborough sushi has compared. I've never really heard of Kibo Sushi but since I was in the area I just googled near by sushi places. Kibo really surprised me. It is right at the intersection of Shepard and Kennedy on the lower level of a building complex. I never order online for non-chain food places in fear that the order wouldn't make it to the kitchen. However, Kibo's online ordering was so comprehensive and easy to use that I couldn't not use it! I especially enjoyed the photos of each menu item and the daily deals. I ordered kind of early in the day (11:00am) and they were open which most places open at 11:30am. My order was complete within 15 minutes of ordering and well packaged. The establishment is also COVID compliant and everyone wore masks. I paid cash and received a 10% discount. Now for the taste. FRESH, FLAVOURFUL, FREAKING SAUCE. I love when sushi restaurants actually add the spicy sauce on top of the order! It's not that hard but makes the world of a difference. The ginger and wasabi was fresh but the soy sauce was in packets which wasn't my favourite. I had to squeeze it out into the container lid which got a little messy. We have ordered from other Kibo Sushi locations, and by far this is our least favourite one. For whatever reason, this location has very little staff or needs more staff. They do take orders from apps which is not an issue however they're timing for pick-up is very off. We once waited an extra 30 minutes for an order that was placed 30 mins ahead of time. We understand that they were swamped however they should not have accepted/answered our order and put a stop to more incoming orders. Along with this, I went in to retrieve the order - the front of house worker did not acknowledge anyone coming inside. There was also no monitoring of the number of people standing in the front area. They used all of the old empty cardboard boxes to build this giant wall which I'm not sure why they did that because it really hides the worker and the customers waiting. They could either make more space for those waiting inside as it is colder now and there were people shoving their way inside and ignoring the physical distancing rules. There were 3-4 people waiting outside for their turn and some just shoving their way into the restaurant even though there were 2 people waiting inside. Because I didn't yell out my order to get the attention of the worker she did not acknowledge me - someone who came in even though there were 2 people inside the small waiting area came in behind me and yelled out their order and the worker acknowledged them before me even though I was waiting already for 10 mins. Either get more staff to help out or don't take so many order requests. Be more strict with how many people are allowed to stand inside, and have someone stand at the front to acknowledge customers and direct them to wait outside if there is no space inside. OR clear out the cardboard wall to get a better view of the front door. We only order from here because it's close however the other locations we've ordered from are much more efficient and have a better system. read more
