My daughter just completed the kindergarten program at KLC with Mrs. García and we are very pleased with the knowledge and skills my daughter gained while at KLC. On their last week of school I decided to test my daughter at sylvan learning center in McAllen, Tx. to see what level she was at and she scored 1.3 which means, She's reading and writing at 1st grade, 3 months level, praise God! I have had my child at this particular daycare for over a year now. I did not want to post a review until I had seen my child progress from the infants to the PK-2 group. In this time, I have seen my child progress both socially and academically. At 24 months, she knows her colors in English and Spanish, her shapes, sounds, can count, has an extensive vocabulary. In addition, she arrives at the learning center with a positive mindset and comes home seemingly quite happy. I do wish the ratio of teachers to students was a bit lower. I've had my little one here for 3 years now. I can't emphasize enough how happy we have been with this particular learning center. She loves attending, the staff are caring and supportive, and she is learning at an accelerated rate. I especially like that the director is quick to share concerns that she has or to follow up on any concerns or questions that we may have in person or via phone/text. This learning center truly fosters a feel of family which makes it much easier for us (mom/dad) to leave our little one here...soon 2 little ones. We know that they are in good hands. The learning center also shares with us pictures of our little one for the different activities and events that are occurring during the year. They also do a great job of sending home activities/projects for our kids to work on. My wife and I truly see this place as a safe haven for our kids. We have no regrets and we truly hope that all parents have the same level of fondness for their children's daycare/learning center as we have for KLC. Every child deserves the level of love and support that we see our little girl and little boy receive. I'd like to address the commenter who CLAIMS to have advanced degrees in behavior and child development. I say claim...because it seems to me that she truly doesn't know what she's talking about. She talks about negative reinforcement and that it should not be used with any child.... Where do I even begin? First of all the example she gave is NOT negative reinforcement. I'd like to clarify to her what negative reinforcement is. It certainly is not a bad thing or practice. In fact, it is an approved behavioral technique in all schools and daycares and learning centers. This is what negative reinforcement really means. Negative...for operant conditioning...means taking away a bad or undesirable thing in order to encourage a good behavior. Example - take away extra work, take away vegetables from a child's plate if they follow directions. Again...you are removing something bad to increase desirable behavior. This is not the example that Ariday shared.....who is supposedly familiar with behavioral principles. Instead the example she is trying to describe ...but failing...is called punishment. That is very different than negative reinforcement. How do I know this? Because I, unlike her, I am truly trained and have multiple degrees in psychology, counseling, LPC, and behavior management. Is punishment a good strategy to use? It shouldn't be the first choice. But its definitely a choice that a school or learning center can use. I work with 1000s of students in a school district as a behavioral interventionist/strategist. Trust me...there are times that positive reinforcement has its limits. In some cases, you do need consequences. You do need a punishment when students refuse to comply. If my little girl refuses to comply and is throwing a tantrum... Yes I expect positive attempts to calm her down. However, If my child refuses, I hope and expect that there will be a consequence/punishment. Sometimes that is the only thing that will cause a student to stop misbehaving. Sometimes.... Anyone who DOES NOT understand this has no business calling themselves an expert in behavioral management or child psychology... read more

I do not do reviews as well, but felt compelled to post, as the 1 star rating from the Sept of 2015 review is, in my opinion, unfair and unjust. My daughter, now age 8, is going on her 5th year of care at this center, primarily the summer camp, but also interim care during holidays and school breaks, being she is school age. Ms. Aurora and her staff are both kind, caring and nurturing. They strive to keep the children clean, fed and educated, while allowing them to be kids. This is by far the cleanest center I've seen. Education and knowledge is key, and they are innovational in teaching these children and it is amazing what they retain and learn at KLC. Programs and curriculum are well thought out and creative, making learning fun. Children enjoy the onsite library. Kids are going to get hurt, cry, be unhappy, be jealous, not want to share etc., it's part of growing and learning conflict resolution. I feel the staff and center techniques and responses are spot on and show continued training in dealing with child development. Ms. Aurora makes training her staff one of her priorities. The children are safe and it's evident when seeing the children that they are happy to arrive at the center and do not want to leave. I usually don't do reviews but I came to conclusion that a lot of places get away with things because no one reports them! This place should not be called learning center and should read "daycare." The director at this facility displayed little to no interest with parental concern about the instruction the child was "receiving." Which was none! This place has cameras and let me tell you, I was done watching after 10 minutes! The director defended the so called "teacher" and her methods! If you can even call her a teacher and if you can even say she has instructional methods! Negative reinforcement is not the way to address any child. And let me define what negative reinforcement sounds like "if you don't sit down, I'm going to take the toy away from you!" Negative reinforcement is not the way to go with any child!!! Use positive reinforcement! Show some interest in the child, instead of ignoring them and watching them cry! That's called extinction and should be used appropriately and should be used only if you know how to use it appropriately! I was so disgusted by the 10 min I saw of the so called instruction and methods used by the teacher! And no I did not only see 10 min. I had been observing for quite a few days!!! And the same thing day after day!!! I wanted to reach into the screen and yell at the teacher!!! Do not take your kids here if you are looking for a preschool learning center. If you are just looking for a daycare, then go with extreme caution! If you want your child ignored and have the director take the teacher's side, then by all means. The director can try and defend herself, but let me tell you... This is a review based on facts! I have a Masters degree in child development and extensive training with applied behavioral analysis and I can go on! I am disgusted with what I saw!!! read more

I don't know why the previous person wrote such a bad review of KLC. Something tells me they are a competitor or maybe just mean. I took my child to KLC for 2 years and was extremely satisfied. I have experience with 4 other Daycares/Preschools in the area and KLC is by far my best experience. Ms. Aurora (the Director) is extremely courteous and understanding. I'd love to get into some of the acts of kindness she displayed but I respect her privacy. Lets just say that she helped someone she hardly knew when she didn't have to and never asked for any recognition. I just got done with my daughters tenure there and noticed the nasty review after googling KLC to find their number. I couldn't just let that lone review sit there without defending the good people at KLC. I created a Yelp account just to post this. My daughter had an amazing time there, she was always treated with love, and I'm really proud of how much she learned! I will always recommend KLC. read more
