The restaurant used to do blackboards full of specials but now there is a printed menu that does not change regularly. Food is average priced but not good value. Food is usually of a resonable standard but service is not great. There always seems to be a lot of staff on and the food takes an age to come out. However, they have recently introduced a set menu (currently 2 courses for £9) - this goes some way to providing better value meals but the set menu is not extensive. I would pay more and eat at other places in Westhill until the service is sorted. Not bad if you are staying in the hotel, it is raining and you get a spot by the real fire, otherwise there is better places to go to in the area.

The guest book starts at 1935, the interior is just little younger and the good cuisine has strong characteristics of the seventies. A wonderful detail is coffee or tea at the bedside before breakfast. Greeted by the dog always carrying a teddy in his mouth, served by the technik-refusing barkeeper at the bar, I hope, the landlady will continue running the hotel like that as long as possible. Two had a terrace and one was on the upper floor. The rooms were very spacious, well decorated, and cozy. I appreciated the bottles of water, warm towels, and excellent food. Hotel staff were attentive and cheerful. The location on the River Dee was great, with excellent views. I saw several fish jump, and the fly fishermen were out each day. Upscale yet not pretentious. I would absolutely return. My only recommendation would be to add mini refrigerators to the rooms.

All rooms are individually and nicely appointed and the common rooms were cosy and gorgeous. Quaint but ample space with lovely decor. Excellent food all around from breakfast to room service, to the dining in the evening. Couldn't recommend the restaurant enough or the multiple dining area options. And most importantly; the staff and people that run Banchory are second to none. The service was amazing at every level! So very attentive, respectful, incredibly friendly, helpful, personable, and knowledgable. We had our wedding reception at Banchory and Scott and his team accommodated every request throughout the week and always went above and beyond. I couldn't recommend staying here highly enough or having your event/party/celebration with the team at Banchory. You won't be disappointed!

We were walking distance to most distilleries and did a walking tour through Speyside tours that took us all around. The place is fully renovated, nicely decorated and very clean. Teresa is so nice and a great cook! Her home cooked breakfast was amazing and was very helpful in giving us trip tips for the rest of our Scotland trip. If you're looking for a nice place to stay at very reasonable prices in the heart of whiskey country- this is it!
