I stayed for one night during a tour of the Highlands. Arriving late meant that there was no time to really enjoy the grounds but the top of the nearby castle can be seen from the carpark and the dining room so I felt I didn't miss out completely. The rooms are of a decent standard but they are beginning to show their age a little, since I only spent time sleeping in it, I'm not going to pretend it had a negative impact on my stay here. The fact that it might bother others is the only reason I've removed a star for this review. Being too tired to drive out and look for dinner, I booked a table at the hotel instead and enjoyed a window-side table in a very finely furnished dining room. The menu was wonderfully British and I went with venison which unfortunately arrived too overcooked for my liking but tasted beautiful nonetheless. I suggest spending a little time in the bar before going back to the room. Innis & Gunn on draft is a luxury I'd been greatly missing since moving away from Scotland years before and getting to enjoy it here was an unexpected treat. The staff here are lovely and brought life to what is a very quiet and subdued environment. I don't think it's a particularly apt setting for a romantic weekend getaway but for a comfortable and special place to rest on a tour of the Highlands, it's pretty perfect. read more
