Small town candy/ice cream shop here. The smell gets you in and lots of things to take in. Overpriced? A little in my opinion. A caramel turtle was $8.99 for one! There's fudge (I tried a sample of chocolate and vanilla- creamy.) We came for the ice cream. It was a little hectic when we were there. A line that made it hard to see the flavors. There is a small sign that you can scan to see the flavors but by the time you are at the barcode, you are at the ordering spot. I went with a small New Orleans praline pecan. It was good. One of my favorite chocolate places. Their milk chocolate is creamy and luscious. My favorites are the salted milk chocolate caramel truffles and the salted milk chocolate caramel fudge. Yes. I do have a favorite flavor profile. Their ice cream is pretty tasty too! I also like the salted milk chocolate caramel apples. They do the chocolate covered cookies and pretzels along with other standards. They're all tasty. Being practically at the CW (Colonial Williamsburg) means you can go walk off those calories while taking a glimpse at colonial times. Service can be hit or miss. I suspect they hire college students. Sometimes you get nice and helpful ones and sometimes you get ones who act like you're bothering them (removed a star for this). Ambiance is alright. It's starting to really show its age and needs an updating. Nothing that would ruin your experience though. read more

What an awesome spot! Will was so kind and greeted us when we walked in and gave us a sample of his fresh caramel. He took time to talk to us about how he makes caramel and fudge and was so good with my kids. It wasn't too busy when my large group walked in but it did get busy right after and felt a bit crowded and chaotic when it came to placing orders at the multiple counters. Employees were friendly especially when I had to ask for a bag of ice for an injury that occurred outside (again no where to sit inside). Only one person in our party didn't like their flavor choice, cake batter, which she said was WAY too sweet. A few members of our group tried a caramel apple and said it was tasty. On Easter Sunday we took a lovely ride up to colonial Williamsburg to have some ice cream and a family stroll. Kilwins are well known for being one of the best Ice creamy shops in Hampton Roads. Their reputation is based off of quality desserts and exceptional customer service I am not big on ice cream so I had to bring in the kiddo to help me out on this review. LOL. We ordered 2 waffle cones. One with cookie dough and cookies and cream. The other with pralines Ice cream. Everyone enjoyed their ice cream. The smiles were my key indicator . I ordered the lemon sherbet hoping it was similar to a gelato and I will confess I was not fond of my frozen dessert. It was way to sweet for me. I was in the area walking around and decided to stop in and see what they have to offer. The place smells wonderful. I love seeing the chocolate spinning and the fresh dipped pretzel dipped chocolate. I decided to get some fudge because it looked amazing and delicious. I ended up getting two pieces of peanut butter and one piece of chocolate and peanut butter fudge. It is the best I've had in the area. It's not as sweet compared to other fudge. read more

The ice cream at Kilwins is always consistently good, and what they have here in this location is no different than the one I go regularly to up in New Jersey. You can't go wrong with their flavors, with mint ice cream and strawberry being the ones I always go with, like I did here. The ice cream here can be a bit pricey but it's really worth the money in terms of the great taste and texture of their offerings. There's plenty of other sweet confections here as well, such as their copious amount of fudge and other candy options. The only hiccup here was the service, which was somewhat inattentive. Even though my kid and I were the only people here, it took a while before anyone walked over to ask what we'd like to order. Prices are getting silly and quality is getting worse. Ice cream over the last month has been really slushy as if the freezer is broken. Been a loyal customer for a while but going to go to baskin robins now. There is also no management available when I did ask for a manager when asking about why the quality has dipped. Kilwins is located just right outside Colonial Williamsburg attraction. Hence, you'll be paying the tourist prices. Overall, the ice cream's pretty good; They go for $6 per scoop. Blueberry's probably my favorite one. Their coffee, however, I'd stay away from. I got their latte mocha ($8) and it's possibly the worst coffee drink I've ever tasted. Like the old Bugs Bunny episodes where the scent is a finger and leads you in by your nose. They have loads of take away items already prepackaged and ready to go as well as fresh fudge you can sample and purchase, ice cream goodies, and a bunch of fresh made chocolates like dipped oreos, krispie treats and chocolate dipped pretzels. Staff are perky and friendly and helpful. Ready to give samples and answer questions at a moments notice. I like the active candy shop vibe where they are making and melting chocolate goodies behind glass in front of you as you walk in sometimes. Nice location. Ordered the dark chocolate peanut butter cup. I got back and it wasn't dark chocolate that I asked for it was Milk chocolate, Could not go back was raining. Well it was a disappointment anyway , I am a peanut butter consumer and it didn't look or taste like peanut butter at all. It looked light in color like margarine and tasted like they took a dollop of peanut butter and mixed it with confectionery sugar therefore it has a weird non peanut butter taste. At $5.99 a piece I expect the peanut butter to taste and stick to the roof of my mouth. If I wanted cheap I could have gone to a convenience store for the mass produced chocolate less than half the price. I wanted homemade as a treat and it was not at all. Will not be going back. So I am a milkshake fanatic and after trying this place, I don't know how the basking ribbons across the street stays in business. The milkshakes were so good I went back the next night for a second. Located right in the heart of Williamsburg and near William and Mary, there is a parking garage next door where you can park, grab some ice cream, and begin your walk around downtown, or in our case a ghost tour around the historic town. The shop is clean, has a vintage feel, and offers an array of ice cream flavors and other chocolate snacks. I had the cookies and cream milkshake both times, and both times it was amazing on a hot summer day. Overall, 10/10 absolutely recommend!! read more

We ducked in before closing for a couple of scoops on the way back to our hotel after dinner. All of the shop made candies and fudge looked and smelled spectacular. Due to good allergy, I couldn't enjoy those items, but they were very careful to change the ice cream scoop without prompting for me to ensure no cross contamination. My vanilla bean was excellent and my husband enjoyed his sugar free vanilla with salted caramel swirl. Over priced. Marginal at best candy and ice cream. Bought 5 buckeyes and one double scoop of ice cream, over $23. Ridiculous. The buckeyes were not very good, tasted less then store bought and they hammered me for $2.50 for each one. I didn't understand it was per piece and buy the time it was rung up I didn't complain. Should have said keep them. It's not a 1/4 pound. Which would put the chocolate at around $50 a pound. No way in world this chocolate deserves that pricing. It was gritty not creamy. As for the ice cream. Vanilla was tasty, no complaints, the pistachio, the nuts were stale which gives them a bitter taste. Just beware what the prices are. $2.50 for a little buckeye. They should be ashamed and I'm embarrassed that I didn't speak up and tell them to keep them. read more

I'm gonna make this review short and sweet just like my visit at Kilwins. After dinner down the street my party and I wanted something sweet to end the night. It was a cold night and my friend had talked about always getting hot chocolate here so we made a bee line straight to their door. The smell alone could satiate a sweet tooth. It was lovely and chocolatey. They offer a TON of things from their ice cream to candied apples to fudge and so on and so forth. We were still a bit full from our dinner so we all just got hot chocolates. They offer a few syrups to flavor your hot chocolate and I opted for the raspberry one. I don't quite remember what the others ordered but it was a group vote that mine was the best. Raspberry and chocolate are just meant to be together! They have many choices of hand scooped flavors which were great, but what really caught my eye was the selection of handmade candies, chocolates and fudge. Oh my goodness! It's so good! CHOCOLATE, candy and ice cream... what could go wrong... you can the covid 10? Ha! The fudge is nice and creamy! I did not have the ice cream but, it look so good! So good! The flavor options for both the fudge and ice cream were unique and also "normal". I like options. The pricing was on point... enough that it would not break the back to go back the next day. The shop is a little tiny, so be know. That there maybe some covid rules and restrictions. We were able to find parking in the street pretty quick. I recommend stopping here for a nice sweet treat to satisfy those cravings or stress eating a lot of us have been doing lately. read more
