Dear Yelp Reader,…read more Review 1700! I've been contemplating what I should write about for my 1700th review and keep coming back to the city of Pass Christian. It is a place I've loved since I was a little kid and while it has changed some, it still holds on to that old school charm. Never been to The Pass? Well keep reading and I will take you there. History When I talk about the history of The Pass I don't only mean actual history like in the books you read in school. Sure it has a boat load of that kind of history. But what I am talking back is the history of me. For years my family would come to The Pass and spend time at the beach. This, and the beach in Grand Isle, were the only beaches I knew. It wasn't until I was much older and we went to Gulf Shores that I knew beach water wasn't always brown. But guess what? I love brown beach water. In fact, this beach is more like a lake than being on the GOM. I'm sure many would disagree, but I couldn't care less. This is my kind of beach. Some of the other history is more what you're accustomed to. The Pass is home to many summer homes for New Orleans families. A drive down East Scenic is as fascinating to me as a drive down St. Charles Avenue. But instead of a view of Mercedes SUVs at Sacred Heart, theres a view of barrier islands, sand dunes, and the Mississippi Sound. I'll take that view over St. Charles Avenue any day (You can revoke my Nola card if you're tough enough). The Pass of Today Today The Pass mirrors The Pass of my youth. Sure there a few (a lot) more modern buildings. But there are no casinos, friendly people, great seafood, and great restaurants. If you combine the areas of The Pass and BSL it's a lot like Nola. Once you leave The Pass and head towards Gulfport and Biloxi you lose that coastal charm I remember so well. The casinos may have brought much needed revenue to the area, but they also eliminated the sleepy town feel. I feel home here. I feel weird saying that about somewhere that isn't Louisiana. But Pass Christian is more like Louisiana than it is like Mississippi. I am sure Mississippi folks would get mad at reading that statement, but I'd bet half the people who live here have some connection to LA. I could go on and on, but I realize very few people will read this review. If you would have told me back in 2010 that I would enjoy writing, I wouldn't of believed you. But here I am on the 7th anniversary of me joining Yelp writing my 1700th review. I actually enjoy writing even if no one is reading. I used the shit out of the trap, caught a total of 4 crabs in 3 different spots. Still looking for that honey hole.
