I have heard so many good things about Komodo Japanese restaurant and hibachi bar here in Kernersville that I decided to try it today... Every good thing I've heard about it was absolutely true! I called in my order for teriyaki chicken with light teriyaki sauce, no rice and an order of spring rolls. The teriyaki chicken with the light sauce was very flavorful and it was all white meat grilled chicken with a flavorful, obviously homemade teriyaki sauce that was not overly sweet as the commercial teriyaki sauces seem to be. It was very light and flavorful. for $12 I got enough chicken and vegetables for two meals! The spring rolls were good too, but very small for the six dollar price tag. The restaurant had a homie ambience and was spacious with lots of tables for when they have a crowd. The woman who worked there was also very friendly and helpful as she retrieved the plasticware and napkins for me when I asked where they were. She and the other employee were very pleasant. There weren't any patrons in the store today, but I'm sure that later on they will be packed. mama said that my food looks so good that she ordered the hibachi chicken, which is just grilled chicken with no sauce and vegetables and fried rice. She also said her food was delicious and flavorful as well. We love the fact that it is not salty at all, but flavorful. You have to try Kemono Japanese restaurant! read more

I've been going to eat at Kimono for years and didn't realize they had a location in Kernersville! It is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in the triad and all of the locations I've ate at have been great. The staff were friendly and my food came out hot and quick. I ordered the teriyaki chicken with veggies and rice. The chicken was cooked perfectly and covered in the delicious teriyaki sauce. The carrots that come with the entree are one of my favorite parts, they add extra flavor and sweetness. The other veggies were also yummy and of course I had to dip everything in the sauce. We will not be going back. First time and we felt so unwelcome here. Ambiance: The place smelled of dirty cleaning solution. It was about 30 minutes to close and we were "greeted" at a table in the center of the room. The woman approached acting like we should know the menu trying to take our order but we were asking if they had seating or if we should order to go. A man was loudly talking on the phone in an indistinct dialect staring at us. He checked us out never stopping his call but obviously talking about our order. Food: my steak was suspiciously almost rancid tasting. Tough, and not cooked medium rare. Well done. Barely any mixed vegetables and not sticky rice but regular white rice. Salmon looked odd colored and both proteins were without seasoning at all. White sauce from a jar and also taste a bit old. Something was just off. My fiancé said "There's no love put into this cooking," and it surprised me but he's right. This place treated us like they could care less and the food was reflective of that. Just ordered Filet minon from them and I can assure you it is not filet minon. They are passing regular steak off as filet minon. Not to mention, it was so hard that I couldn't even chew it. I picked up to go order 5/13/2020 I had 3 chicken plates and a steak plate. After got home and began eating food found a metal shaving in the food. I immediately contacted the restaurant and noticed the owner/manger. I tried to explain to her it looked like a piece of stainless steel scrubbing pad. The manger explained the do not use such items and only clean their grill at night. My concern then could it had been in the meat? I offered to send her a picture. She refused to give me email address or number to text to. I then advised I would be contacting health inspector. Which I have. She advised for me to do so. I gave a 2 star just because the food was edible. Aside from all the staff here, that old lady is probably one of the least respectable thing next to a door mat for a guest there. If you didn't imagine your life as running a restaurant from morning to night but a lavish lifestyle in America, then no wonder you are rude, a liar and upset. We had a company order that our manager is going to go pick up our food for us. We had written instructions that mirrors their menu, order for order. When we got back, I had broccoli instead of mushrooms, my coworker didn't have any veggies in his at all. I just settle for my $19 dollars of steak and chicken and a side of rice, right? $19 dollars. I love Kimono! It is above and beyond the food you get at Osaka- in my opinion. I have eaten In the restaurant but more often have gotten take out. The restaurant isn't fancy, but it's good for what it is. If you sit In The restaurant you also get soup and salad included in your meal. While the salad is straight up iceberg, the ginger dressing makes it taste amazing! My order of choice is the "kimono for 2" which is two huge servings of fried rice, sweet carrots, shrimp, scallops, steak and chicken for $20. It is good enough for 4 meals, and I am a big eater! The shrimp sauce that comes with it is delicious. Overall I think Kimono is great- food tastes healthy and fresh, not greasy. Order is ready when they say and service is courteous. read more

Came here with my Japanese fiancé. We were mostly amused to eat what was brought to us, which was definitely not authentic Japanese. The yakisoba is made with Italian pasta instead of Asian noodles, which is strange. The tempura batter was too heavy and more resembled fritter consistency. The fried rice tastes like Spanish rice too. There is a strange sweet sauce provided with most meals, which is helpful given that the flavor profiles of our dishes were a little off. All said, entrees are affordable, the chicken is very tasty and the sweet carrots are a nice touch though! read more

Kimono is always solid in the food department. The wife always laments that the Kernersville location doesn't offer sushi like the Winston locations do. Kernersville is definitely underserved in that department. Whomever was the first place to add it to their menu could corner the market in the area. Service is always good and fast. Sadly, there is no authentic Japanese food in ALL of Kernersville. This is no exception, so if that's what you're expecting, you will be gravely disappointed. This place has gone downhill. The food was just okay and slightly overpriced. My friend got a Teriyaki jumbo shrimp entree and these shrimp were not at all jumbo. I got the Hibachi regular shrimp entree and the only difference was that my friend's shrimp had the tail on...they were the same size. My scallops were good but my rice was just rice...no real flavor. My soup was super salty and my salad was full of dead lettuce. Needless to say I won't be going back here. We had not been here since before they closed for Covid restrictions. Previously we were generally pleased whenever we visited whether for lunch or dinner. Needless to say, we found things have changed since the reopening. The menu use to feature both Chinese and Japanese choices. Now we found the menu limited to solely Japanese dishes. I ordered the Teriyaki Chicken and Broccoli and my husband Shrimp and Broccoli with spicy Teriyaki . Both dishes came with sweet carrots and rice. We also each had a " salad " and since my husband had the full dinner, he also had soup. The soup arrived looking like clear water and tasted like salted water . The " salad" was not a salad. It was a bowl of shredded lettuce with dressing. Now, I cannot truly fault this mislabeling of salad to just this restaurant, but with much more limited choices on the menu and food that was simply adequate, we were disappointed and most likely will not keep this place as a go to. read more

The restaurant used to be good. It has since gone downhill. Service is mediocre and as of late the food is sub par. I ordered double chicken with mixed vegetables and asked for no mushrooms. I can understand finding one but no it was loaded with mushrooms. I sent it back and when I got my food I had less chicken and the food was cold. The food was bland and unexceptional. My wife got hibachi chicken with mushrooms, I got hibachi chicken and shrimp. We got a couple of spring rolls as well. Spring rolls were greasy, but turned out to be my favorite part of this meal. Shrimp were small, chicken was meh, fried rice was tasteless. Salad wasn't too bad, but the lettuce was wet. No fuss and frills, just good Japanese food! Kimonos has been around for a few years as they originally started in Clemmons. They now have a few locations, and some that even do sushi which is fabulous! It's not a place to be wowed by appearance, but it's just consistently good Hibachi chicken, shrimp, or steak! The prices are beyond fair and even could be considered below average! If like me, you are tired of Japanese with "The Show", give Kimonos a shot. read more

Kimono is great! I always get take out here, and dine in occasionally. The place isn't super fancy or anything as even the waiters are dressed down to jeans and a t shirt. They take care of me though, and have no problem with me for specific orders or requests I may have with my food. The food is always brought out on time, and in a prompt and speedy manner. They give you large portions too, and will bring you extra sauce if you request it. This is always my first choice for Japanese in the area, and I will keep on coming back! read more
