When it was his family's turn to order the lady taking orders completely dismissed them and started working on other things. They were not fully seated so it was a bit confusing on why we had to wait for 15 minutes to order because they did not like kids. They never voice it either so just really passive aggressive and rude As soon as the family got fed up with waiting and left it looked like one of the waitresses told the lady who was taking the orders that the family left, and the lady taking the orders immediately went back to taking other people's orders. Midweek dinner out with the wife! The staff greets everyone as they enter or leave. The menus are up front where you order and pay at the register before finding a seat. We sat at the bar this time so we could see the chefs in action. It was cool hearing them coordinate orders and cooking. The music was light but nice. We ordered a tonkotsu ramen with grilled bokchoy add on and a tantanmen ramen with pork belly add on. For drinks, a butterfly bramble and shishito margarita (with accompanying waters, of course). Order number 10 was yonko luffy! The drinks came out first. I love butterfly pea drinks in general and this was no exception. The lime kept it refreshing with a mellow bite of alcohol. The shishito margarita had just enough spice to complement the tequila without being overpowering. Finally, the ramen! My wife enjoyed her tonkotsu ramen, but had a touch too much green onion. For the tantanmen, I had that first sip of broth (segregated from the pork by the toppings) and instantly thought "umami." That's always a bit hard to classify for me, but that broth really did it for me. I was hesitant to get the spicy ground pork because it's harder to scoop up, but that first sip made it worth it. And as the meal progressed, the spiciness of the pork seeped into the broth deliciously. The crunch of the bok choy was one of the reasons I got this dish; so good! My friend told me about this place and I completely forgot, but I searched for a ramen place on Yelp that was closest to us and this came up and I am glad it did!!! My daughter was craving ramen so we both got the Tonkotsu ramen and I tried the Strawberry Matcha drink. They gave us a bokchoy appetizer with some garlic paste to try since it was our first time dining with them and it was good!!! Back to the ramen - the broth was sooo umami good and I truly enjoyed it! I would have to say it's the best one I've tried here in San Antonio! I went to Kimura with my daughter. Parking is limited, so be aware of that. From the outside, the restaurant gives a bit of an "hmm, maybe not" impression, but once inside I was pleasantly surprised. The space is clean, nicely decorated, and has a calm, welcoming atmosphere. We held the door open for a girl right behind us, who came across as a bit rude. I didn't think much of it until she ended up being the one taking our order. Her tone and demeanor felt off-putting, almost as if we were inconveniencing her. While ordering, she also corrected me while I was explaining menu items to my daughter, which felt unnecessary. Food-wise: * I ordered the Katsu Sando. They don't offer regular mayo... only spicy... so keep that in mind. It wasn't overly spicy and was actually really delicious. * My daughter ordered the Shoyu Ramen. It was good, but not something we'd order again. * We also ordered steamed edamame, which I always enjoy. Came here for a friend's bday dinner. Got here right before happy hour ended @ 7 PM. Cocktails are only $5 and appetizers are a few dollars off menu price. Portions were surprisingly very big. You have to order up front as well but they give you a number and will bring your order out to you when ready. Gyoza and kara-age tasted great. Their ramen was just ok for me. Thought it lacked a bit of flavor and not as creamy or thick as your traditional Japanese ramens. My friend and I saw this online that said to be a good place to eat and wanted to give it a try. When we arrived, the parking is on the side of the building and to be honest does look a little rough. My friend was actually nervous as the outside didnt look very nice but if you look at the front of the building it looks better. Once you actually enter the building the layout and style looks cool. You would order your food at the front, they give you a number, then you go sit down at a table and wait. One thing I absolutely appreciated about the staff was that my friend has a glutten allergy and they stopped at our table to double check and confirm her order so she wouldn't get sick. I don't often see that so was really cool of them to do. They first brought out the onigiri and the Gyoza. I really loved the Gyoza with it having the crispy bits on the side. The pork was cooked well on the inside of it too. The Onigiri i loved how cute they looked. I had tuna in mine which was alright but I think would try something else in the middle next time (they offer a vegan option to this which might be good). My drink was their Butterfly Pea lemonade, which not only looked pretty but tasted delicious as well. For my main dish I ordered Katsudon and I would absolutely order it again! The pork was cooked perfectly and loved the crunch on the crust. They cooked it within an egg which was also very good and put on top of rice. My friend ordered a ramen with some shrimp in it. I was pulled in by the decently designed website hoping the restaurant would be pretty good, but I was sadly disappointed and fooled myself. For starters if I wanted to have basic curry that came from the Golden Curry box mixes, I would have saved $17 and made it at home. The past two experiences weren't the best though, the little girl with the missing tooth, named leelah, had a weird attitude, and really poor customer service unfortunately. Tonkotsu ramen was also tasty and the noodles were well cooked. Ordered the Pink Package cocktail and it was completely watered down - didn't taste like lychee or like it had any vodka in it. My biggest issues with this place - tables are notclean and they're blasting heavy metal/headbanger rock in the dining room. At 6 pm. Seriously? What does that have to do with a Japanese restaurant? It made talking and interacting difficult. Asked a server to turn it down and she looked at me like I was crazy. They did, but it eventually went back to normal volume. Service was slow and lackluster overall. This place needs to figure out who it wants to be when it grows up. There's better ramen and better vibes in this city. Came in on a Saturday around 1115, still was able to snag a parking spot (they have a private parking lot, with about 5 slots). Order at the counter and they give you your food and clean the table up for you. Utensils and extra plates are easy to find in the restaurant. Overall, no issues with service! It was a bit cold inside, considering how windy it was today. Because of that, I felt like my green tea and ramen got cold quickly. Now for the food, I enjoyed the Tonkotsu Ramen, it was flavorful and I felt like it was the right portion for me! My son was not a fan of the chicken and rice bowl, but he still ate some; I think it lacked a bit of chicken portion to the amount of rice that was given, but the egg covered the amount of protein needed for the meal. We were told they weren't taking orders because they didn't have seating, yet six tables were visibly empty. It took one employee a full five minutes to clear a single table that only had two cups and two bowls on it. Furthermore, their two high chairs are both broken and unsafe. One has a broken belt clip, and the other pinched my son because the middle piece was broken. I very much enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant. It's a little different then most where you seat yourself and whenever you're ready you go to the front and order your food. Once it's ready they'll bring it out to your table. Very large bowl of food I couldn't finish but I definitely took the rest home. My meal was very tasty and delicious. My broth was super enjoyable and creamy and my ramen tasted perfectly not to firm nor soggy! We had sweet tea and green tea also which were very good.
