Had our driveway seal coated September 2022. By March of 2023 it had all flashed dried off and looked worse than it did before. Left lines where they had brushed the seal coat on. Contacted King and they admitted they had poor seal coat product last year, but it wasn't their problem. Will not be recomending them to anyone and they have lost my buisness in the future.​ read more

Contacted this company after seeing an advertisement on TV for driveway services. Intent was to construct a new 1800 sq. ft driveway at my residence. Upon initial contact they will tell you about their commitment to customer service and their mastery of the same. They will offer to show you a portfolio of their previous work and offer to provide references. They will bid your project very attractively with a price lower than most of their competitors. Upon signing the agreement in March, the gamesmanship began in earnest. You will hear about the high priority projects the company has in front of yours and you will also hear that your project is being prioritized and should start soon. After about a month of getting the run-around, I pressed them for a start date. This is when the bad attitude and complete lack of customer service starts. The owner starts with the typical non-motivated construction attitude "I never promised anything" etc. That's it, game over I cancelled the contract immediately. Thankfully this company never came onsite to start any work. I can only imagine the nightmare that would have unfolded - trying to get them to finish the work would have been a huge time waster. Note: Lesson (re)learned - you get what you pay for and if it sounds too good to be true it always is. read more

Had them install long and expensive blacktop driveway. Unfortunately they sloped it towards the garage and every time it rains water enters the garage. They came out and said it was their fault and would fix. Guess what? Two years later and still not fixed. They bs'd me and I fell for it. In any event I will have someone else correct for five grand and will see them in court. Very disappointed. Mistakes can happen but they lied to me. read more

I recently used King Blacktop to reseal my driveway. I had never used King before, but had seen examples of their work in my neighborhood. I wasn't quite sure what to think of the initial process (send a check with a signed contract in advance with a promise not to cash the check until the job is completed), but as promised they quickly called upon receipt of my contract to let me know they would be resealing my driveway that week and wanted to make sure I was ready for them. I have been in my home for 22 years and have used numerous blacktop companies over the years. Given the driveway is very aged, it has many small cracks (and some larger ones as well). I was home when the team arrived. I went outside and met the team and let them know that I am "picky" and wanted to make sure there wasn't over splatter on my sidewalks or garage (which I have had with other companies). The guys were very professional, courteous and all around nice to work with (which you don't always find). They responded to my request/comment and assured me that they would be very careful and be sure there was not over splatter. They also said they were sure I would be happy with the driveway when it was done. When they finished the driveway, they came to the door and said they wanted me to take a look at the driveway before they left to make sure I was happy with it. I am happy to say they did not disappoint! The driveway looked great. By far the best it had looked after sealing. Thank you to the great group that did this job. King - you are fortunate to have them working for you! It was very evident this is a team that really cares about the work they do. Our experience with king blacktop is exactly like that of Drake M. Our driveway is long & expensive, $17,000. John King came and admitted it is their error and said they would fix it next year (2020). We have a letter stating that. 2020 came and when I contacted him in May 2020 he said his crew was refusing to come back to work because they were getting the extra $600. a week from unemployment. We had contacted them again in 2020 John said he had a limited crew, but we were on the list. They never came and when we tried to contact them I was told either he wasn't there and would return my call, which he never did, or, he's on the phone as would I like to hold, guess how long I would be on hold before the phone would disconnect. John never contacted us to tell us they would not be able to do it. When I contacted him in April 2021 he said we are on the schedule for this year as soon as they are in our area, they did a driveway one block from us, never came to us. When I filed a complaint with the bbb he got p.o. and has now said he is not going to repair it as his work is not guaranteed. Be very leary of this company. He will look you right in the eye and lie to you, all the while telling you on his company name and reputation is so important him along with hisome name personally. I have a small driveway and contacted 3 companies for an estimate. King was the only company to respond. Since they have a good reputation, I decided to use them even though their prices seem a little on the high end. It was maybe only 2 weeks from the day I called them when my driveway was done. They did a really good job. My driveway had not been resealed in almost a decade and now it looks great. They did leave 3 splotches of blacktop on the yard and curb, but they aren't causing any long-term issue. I would definitely use this company again. read more

Had to wait till end of season to get new driveway. Then it was too late to seal it for winter. Now its July and still not sealed. Was told in May I would be first on list for a seal. Can't say I would recommend them for any blacktop work if your on any kind of schedule. read more

If I could not give any stars I would. I recently asked my friends for a recommendation of a company to do my driveway. What I got was a number of people with nothing but terrible things to say. Taking payment upfront and not completing the work until dozens of phone calls and several months passing. The negative reviews here are accurate. John King does not care about customer service or satisfaction. I was in the room when he was on the phone with my girlfriend (one of his customers) as he yelled at her and flat out told her he can do whatever or talk however he wants because he is the owner. I wondered how a terrible person like this could have such great reviews on all platforms only to discover that INCLUDED IN THEIR CONTRACT is a clause that specifically states you are NOT allowed to post negative reviews online and if you do will be charged a HEFTY fine!!! ($1000 - $2000) On top of that, for each day the review is not taken down, there is an additional $100 daily fine. UNBELIEVABLE! Please do yourself a favor and go with a more sincerely reputable business. You DO NOT want the headache and trashy service that is John King. read more

I have been in my Rochelle home for 14 summers. Over the years, my wife and I had 9 different companies sealcoat (as well as doing it ourselves). Although none of the work was ever "bad," last year we found our "go-to" company...King Blacktop. The prep work was great - removing all the weeds, thoroughly cleaning the surface and filling any cracks - before seal coating the driveway. It looked better upon completion than any other company before. We already used them again this year (2016) and the work was of the same top quality. I have and will continue to recommend them to my friends! BTW...the cost for their services was no more expensive than the other companies we used. read more
