A Lebanese and Halal 'pop up' stall situated in the 'Upper' part of the market near the haberdashery shop and flower stall (and close to the Source) which has an array of smells and sights to strike up interest from most people who pass by. (not sure if it's to be a permanent stall). So, new year, new adventure. I went here for lunch with my friend Al who always likes to try new stuff. The staff are very encouraging, explaining what they offer and showing you how its made. There are 10/12 choices on the menu- I chose veggie, Al chose chicken. The food is prepared and cooked in front of you so you have to wait and watch. it's mainly done on a grill or the veggie stuff (mainly being falafel) is shallow fried before being 'wrapped' and warmed on a panini maker! There were dishes of olives and hummus on the counter and you could see all the ingredients that go into your order. The prices are reasonable too= £4.50 or less per wrap/kebab etc. I was happy with my falafel wrap but it was a tad lacking in the spicy punch I expected, Al like his 'kebab cake' (we couldn't remember the actual name!) It was nice to experience different cuisine in a handy way and not be so stuffed after but next time I'm gonna be brave and ask for something a bit spicier! I think this is a break off shop from the Shawarma on Raglan Road in Headingley but having never been there I couldn't be sure- they do both seem to offer similar if not the same menu!

I will say, however, they're still the only place I know of who do butter chicken, which is delish. Firstly, the time before last there was a weird unidentifiable item in my butter chicken. I couldn't be sure, but it seemed the texture of fish - maybe crab or lobster? It didn't affect the rest of the dish, which I devoured, but I didn't enjoy that. Then I ordered raita to go with some other bits, which was really just not very nice. And lastly, a few days ago I attempted butter chicken again and the sauce was a lot more watery than usual. Not terribly thin, but much less creamy. Sad times! Despite this, I think one last chance is in order. I did love them so much before, after all. Or maybe I need to actually try a different menu item for once, and branch out...

They offer free delivery and accept cash only payments. They quote 45 minutes for delivery, but normally our delivery comes in about 30. I think the delivery time depends on how far you live from them though and I think i live on the edge of their 5 mile delivery radius. The food always tastes like its been cooked fresh and it always arrives piping hot. We've tried their Nan Kebabs. They have both kinds of kebabs if you prefer your kebab in a pita bread. Their nan bread by the way is awesome. I recommend the Chicken Tika Nan kebab. It's enough food for two people and is very nice. It's full of succulent chicken and veg. I cant eat a whole one - but it does hold up to reheating. It wasn't greasy the next day. We also order the meal deal for two which has their huge samosas. To be fair there is enough food in this meal deal for four people. We always have leftovers for lunch or dinner the next day. Overall the food is excellent and the price is right. Their service is also friendly and prompt. They offer a 10% discount to students & nursing homes when requested. It's a new built addition to the empire and one that is all singing and all dancing. Fancy pants to go with the fancy pants food. It's massive and shiny and new. Unfortunately I missed the half price offer but, having travelled right across Rothwell I decided I would (gulp) pay the full price (less 10% on collection). I scanned the menu but as i did so I overheard one of the staff saying there was a long wait. Long wait indeed! on asking I was told that it was about one and a half hours which was clearly to long for a hungry boy like me. Apparently they are taking orders and ringing the customer when it's ready which is a reasonable plan but doesn't work for a quick fix addict like me. We have only ever ordered from these guys through JustEat, so have no real experience of their face to face customer service, but the delivery men have been friendly, and well prepared with change when paying in cash. The only slight downside that we have experienced is in the length of time required for an order to be delivered, but this is probably a consequence of the menu variety rather than anything else. I'd rather wait longer for a meal to be properly cooked, than have a quick delivery of a reheated pot that was made the day before. It is also worth noting that the delivery estimates have always been pretty spot on, so any waiting time was at least expected.

This always used to be one if those places you would visit only for special occasions so going for Sunday lunch seemed a little strange for me but then again that might have been the hangover talking! However I shouldn't have been so worried they have recently decorated and it looks really warm and welcoming inside while maintaining that special occasion feel. It was really busy upon our arrival but we had an ace up our sleeve as the friend we was meeting use to work here so got seated pretty sharpish (cheeky I know but get I was hungover remember!) we ordered some drinks and once my first San Miguel slid down I started returning to the land of the living. We were handed the menus and they had a set menu for Sunday lunch 3 courses for 15.95 which is pretty good value in my book taking into account what was available they had a variety of starters a king prawn dish classic, prawn cocktail, pâté and soup of the day amongst others I opted for the pâté which I usually steer clear for obvious reasons, but as it was a higher class of restaurant felt pretty confident it would be quality ingredients! The pâté came and I was expecting a small ramekin on pâté with I couple of slices of Melba toast but what came was like a slab and I mean slab of chocolate cake it was huge and only two small pieces of toast which was never going to accommodate such a "slab" of pâté. As one of us was having the soup at least we had some extra bread on the table which I could take advantage of. In the end the pâté defeated me just so much of it was too rich to finish. For the main you could have a traditional roast of the usual beef, pork or half a chicken but I opted the a slightly different braised steak which came with a lovely rich red wine jus and oven roasted shallots. All the dishes came with sides of vegetables roast and mash potatoes and big fluffy Yorkshire puddings which you could ask for more of at no extra cost. It came round to dessert and by this time I had gone from land of the dead to land of the living after my first pint and was now on my way to land of the fairies after having another couple of San Miguels on top of the previous nights alcohol. Dessert again had plenty of choice and at the start of the meal liked the look of the the cheeseboard as a sucker for any form of cheese but as I'd eaten so much and as San Miguel doesn't really compliment cheese opted for the lighter and easier on the palate mandarin cheesecake which again defeated me. All in all it was a pleasant experience and a gentle pick me up to get through a hungover Sunday instead of contemplating dying on the sofa at home. The only thing that spoilt it slightly for me and why it doesn't get 4 stars is it was full of gypsies don't get me wrong I don't mind what kind of people are dining at the same place as me and I'm no snob but all the crazy kids and loud parents just took the edge off it for me and after speaking to our friend that worked there it seems gypsies do go there a lot on a Sunday but every other day it's just business as usual.
