It was fairly busy at the time so I guess it's a popular haunt, it certainly has the feel of a proper local. We didn't stop for lunch, just a refreshing pint and some crisps, but the menu looked like typical pub grub with a few specials on the board. The bar staff were friendly and welcoming, downsides included a telly showing Cash in the Attic or some such tosh, and grotty loos, but overall it's a good stop off for a beer and a wee!

It often hosts the after parties for gigs at the Southampton Guild Hall, and other live bands and acts with unsigned artists. Its definitely a funky venue with two floors, a bar area downstairs and more of a club/dancing area upstairs with a bar. Excellent selection of European beers last time I was there with some new tastes for me and enjoyed it! Definitely worth a visit for live music and even nice during the day for a quiet drink.

I would say, this is a musician's and real person's pub, so I felt right at home and the customers are a very friendly and welcoming bunch, not a chav in sight, (heaven). Average age about 23, but they had no problem with an old git like me, very respectful, in a cheeky sort of way. The bar is a large(ish) L shape with a seated garden area ideal for smokers, (I packed up smokin' 12 weeks ago..Bugger!) but it's still a nice place to sit on a pleasent summer's evening. Plenty of live entertainment, I went on a tuesday which seems to be the accoustic night which they call Batteries not included. This is a sort of open mic night but the performers are all pre-booked. A decent standard of muso-ship with a good selection of styles, and it's free. They seem to have stuff on regularly throughout the week and I will be going back to take another look. They have a website and a myspace which I can't remember, but it's got Little Johnny Russell's in the title (I should never of had that last beer). Traditional Pub with Tons of History…read more Really love this place. Quirky, eccentric, authentic. A visit to Platform is almost like a trip to a maritime museum. Not only is it the last known address of the last body pulled from the wreck of the Titanic (James McGrady), it is also where Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) won his ticket on the ill-fated voyage and is featured on the movie. I entered through the rear door and it was dimly lit, with a small hallway to the main pub and a staircase to the upper level where the kitchen and toilets were located. There were two rooms of the pub, each with a bar and tables/booths. There was one bartender working, named Roo. He was so fun to talk to!! He told us about the history of the bar, the area, and gave us recommendations of places to sight-see during our brief trip to Southampton. He also had amazing beer/drink recommendations. We ended up talking to one of the regular patrons, who highly recommended the fish & chips. He was not lying, it really was *THE BEST* fish & chips I had during the entire trip. Really fresh fish and chips, really delicious!! It was the best I've had, ever I believe. The space is dimly lit, full of fun trinkets and memorabilia, and has a lot of character. I lost my mind for a moment when I found newspaper articles dated April 2012 from when the Titanic set sail and when it sank. THE newspaper articles. Adhered to the wall with scotch tape (!!). I asked Roo about the lack of preservation/security of these notable pieces of history and his response was, "nobody is going to take that, this is England!" Overall, a really fun experience and amazing fish & chips. I recommend and would 100% return if I was in Southampton again.
