I definitely think that $21 a person is extreme especially since minimum wage is $7.50. So this is kind of a tourist trap. But they should definitely do something about the pricing. I understand that they have to feed the animals but a lot of people would look ar the price and leave. Was 3 of us and Ive been to others like this in Montana with Bears and another wildlife one.... but prices were better. So you park and pay and can buy a pail of feed for $5 then drive the property. You can go more than once if you want. The first 1/3 had no animals, so not sure where they were hiding or if there were any in that area. You take your time because some animals want to walk right in front of your car and wont move. One donkey was a smart cookie, he kept walking beside our car as we were moving slowly, then he went and stood in front of the vehicle, we slowly started backing up thinking he would move if we moved... he ran to the back of the vehicle.... lil twerp. Cute animals.... cows, zebra, buffalo and donkies were all hanging out in the same area.

The animals were very "friendly" and would put their heads into the car window to get food if you let them and weren't quick enough to feed them. I was practically nose to nose with a bison, fed an ostrich, and my daughter loved the young zebra. Staff were pleasant. I had to get a car wash afterwards, but it was worth it.

Half the 500-plus acres is designated old growth forest, which is about as common as a steak at a KFC. We loved our very peaceful two-hour hike, especially the tall timbers. Understandably, they are very protective of these forests, so access is only allowed through guided tours. But the tours are highly informed and free, courtesy of the commonwealth of Kentucky. Be sure to call ahead of time to make plans, since the full time staff consists of two hardy souls that tend to the whole property in addition to babysitting any tourists. Notably, they don't get a lot of visitors here, so don't be surprised if your guided tour is private and exclusive. As for all you smartphone nerds out there, good luck checking into this place. The landscape that has helped save the timber for generations also turns your phone into a lump of coal. Be sure to pay close attention to the directions to get here. By all means, the trip is worth the effort.

We stayed at Carr Creek State Park Campground for 3 days at $25/day. Some map apps may shows this…read morecampground as Littcarr Campground. As with any Kentucky State Park campground; we can either choose AAA discount, or 2nd day half off. We found this campground on our way to Red River Gorge. What caught our eyes was the deep lake and tall mountain surrounding the campground. Our site#31 has very good shade and little farther to comfort station than we normally wanted, but the site was spacious and plenty of privacy. Our site was half paved and half graveled, but fairly leveled. WiFi is none existence and LTE/3G barely worked. OTA TV has 6 digital channels. Power pedestal and water hookup were in convenient spots. Park staff was very gracious and helpful; point out the best sites, available discounts, etc. Marina for kayak access to Carr Fork Lake about 1 mile east of HWY15 from campground. Swimming beach access by walking down the flagstone steps. Although it was closed for the season, nonetheless, we saw family still enjoy the lake down there. Bathroom with showers and toilets were outdated and needs serious scrubbing. Not whole lot of things to see or around this area, more like a relax pad before continuing on our way.

7/26/26 My husband…read moreand I like to take a cave trip every year for our anniversary. This year, we traveled from Ohio to the Bristol area. Gap Cave was a great stop for the way back home. I will admit that we originally did not go in with high expectations. We saw the $8 price tag and thought that meant this cave must be underwhelming with the price being THAT low compared to all other tours that we have been on. Gap Cave was the 29th cave/cavern that we have visited in the US. When I tell you that we were pleasantly surprised, that is the understatement of the century. We loved the experience of getting to use the flashlights to light our own path while in the cave. The hike to the cave itself is super beautiful. Our tour guides(Lucas, Dylan, and Mackenzie) were amazing. You could see all of their enthusiasm for their job which is always great to see! Gap Cavern has an amazing amount of formations. We enjoyed our tour here more than the Domes and Dripstones tour at Mammoth Cave. The visitors center of Cumberland Gap National Park was also super nice! The employees and rangers were so friendly and kind! We highly recommend making this stop!

All my life, my family has been coming here for a special treat. So, when I returned to SW Virginia…read moreafter being away for a few decades, I certainly had to take my family for a visit. The mountains are just as beautiful as they have always been. Maybe a little worn down over the ages (ok, sometimes I just feel old). The overlooks are pretty fantastic. We went to the tunnel overlook. We went the "long" way. You can go to the second parking lot from the Visitor center for a much quicker hike, but it wasn't an epic journey through tunnels of mountain laurel and rhododendrons. Your choice for the jungle experience or the straight run. Once there, the views of the tower and tunnel were spectacular. We also stopped at the Lodge Restaurant for lunch. It was just an awesome, calming time. I really wish we had spent days instead of an afternoon. Maybe when I retire, we will stay longer in the fall. I had the club sandwich which was really good. The fries in it were just the way I like them: crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. Waitress was good & prompt which checks all the boxes for me. DEFINITELY recommend this for a visit. Whatever your outdoor criteria is, this place will meet it.

Believe them when they say they are strenuous, though! The Bottom of the Breaks Trail is stunning, but it's quite a trek! The lodge is set up hotel style, and the Dogwood Lodge is pet friendly! I saw an elk and so many deer! Hit all the overlooks, hike the trails, eat at the restaurant, and stay somewhere in this gorgeous park! There's a lake and nearby rivers if you are a boater or a paddler!

Nothing for our babies to play with or ride. The playground area needs to be updated to foam, I have been to other Park's and they have so much more for children of all ages. *
