If i were rating purely as a bar I would give 3/5 due to the staff being somewhat impatient at night, who seem keen to finish as soon as possible. There is little atmosphere compared to other pubs in Seaton Sluice but they do have a relatively cheap selection of lagers and soft drinks, the fairly recent introduction of ales was personally well received by myself.

Extremely helpful and courteous staff and dear god in heaven they had clean toilets. Having been a barman in London I can tell you clean loos are not high on the priority list. The Astley Arms has a nice bit of history, being a popular pub with submarine crews during the Second World War. Make sure you read the stuff about the HMS Seahorse's crew who never returned for the whiskey they won in a raffle on Christmas Eve in 1939.

I would say it's probably the most family orientated pub on the coast.There's a wide variety of what I call everyday drinks and the prices are very reasonable.
