The well stocked bar serves cask ales, beers etc and has a magnificent choice of malt whiskies. (we went with some Scottish relatives and they were most impressed!!) Mostly local foods, Dales, Lamb and Beef and Trout from the nearby Kilnsey Trout farm. The fish is from the east Coast, (I asked, well you have to don't you!!) They have a magnificent specials board in the main bar area, which may require many visits before you make your final choice. Always a soup of the day, Roast of the Day and plate pie. Vegetarian options are good as well. Cannot complain about anything we ordered, and we have all had different things every time we have been. The steaks are particularly good. The pub is long and there are various tables of differing height and sizes to choose from. Some hidden away and others in the large dining room. Lovely views from the windows and all en suite bedrooms. The toilets are a little bit out of the ark, but very clean. Loads of leaflets on things to see and do around the area. The staff are all locals and are very eager to help if you require any assistance. Parking to the front for a few cars and also a car park around the back for customers only. Tables to the front with umberellas to shield you from the baking hot rain we have had this year. Worth a visit when they have the Scarecrow displays on in August as there are always other things to see. Great after a walk or if you require good wholesome food at a reasonable price in a very friendly country pub.

The bar/restaurant was relatively quiet however the girl serving seemed somewhat confused with basic orders and prices. After being served with the incorrect drinks we found our table which was cluttered with glasses and spillages. After the incompetence we had experienced I did not trust our host to take care of such a tricky task as cleaning our table so I politely asked for a cloth I was ignored and it was cleaned. The food, 3 roast beef dinners came to our table in a average time and the standard was very average to poor. The amount of food served seem some what scarce however once we had finished we were served with a nice dish of semi roast potatoes. Why are 20 pubs a week closing down in the UK?

The pub has a bar area and a restaurant area - we only ever went into the bar as you could eat int here and it was really cosy (dogs are also allowed!). The staff were incredibly friendly and chatty (lets face it, Yorkshire, particularly North Yorkshire folk are possibly the most friendly on the planet - i challenge you to disprove this!). The food was INCREDIBLE. Nothing fancy pants, just really good food, VERY big portions (trust me on this, you dont need three courses - choose your weapon of starter or dessert to go alongside your main - we made the mistake one night and 1) couldnt eat it all and 2)pretty much rolled home). We spent an evening in the pub, had a meal and then sat playing card games - we felt incredibly welcome. So welcome that we ended up visiting three times in a week long holiday. The mains of slow cooked pork belly (with roasts not mash), the steak & ale pie with chips and corn fed chicken supreme were all very well presented and more importantly, tasted amazing. The pork with LOTS of crackling was only let down let down by the lack of Yorkshire pudding (I know, not meant to have it with Pork dinner but I wanted one and it wasn't allowed due to exact numbers being made). The food was washed down with two bottles of white Rioja and followed by some beautiful desserts of chocolate brownie and Baileys Creme Brûlée with cookie. All in all, a perfect Sunday roast and for £122, was pretty impressive. Note: the staff were young but were absolutely honest and professional. It really was a pleasure to hang around here, despite being ever so slightly chilly (I'm used to the balmy climate of London). The views are awesome, there's wildlife everywhere and plenty of dogs around if you're a dog person. The lunch was in the cruck barn and this is really an. Exceptional building, it looks old despite being only 10 years old! The decor is perfect. Except maybe the projection of the menu, not the biggest fan if that (it was hard to read). The food was impeccable, I had the pigeon and venison and it was perfect, the table generally seemed very pleased with their food so I think everything else was good too! The roast looked incredibly, serious food envy there. The drink selection, as you would expect in a decent traditional Yorkshire pub, was local and very very good. If you're in the area (or even just in the north east) then I would definitely recommend coming here for some food. Beware the roads however, super difficult to drive around.

The kitchen area can be seen from the bar and is always bustling and busy. There is also a side room with larger tables for groupsand up the stairs a delightful annex where you can look down and people watch. Parking to the front gets filled up quickly at the week end.
