Car trouble is never fun, especially when you're rolling into South Lake Tahoe from the Bay Area on a work trip--right before a holiday weekend. My car broke down late Wednesday night, and after getting nowhere with AAA, I tried again Thursday morning and eventually drove (nervously) to AutoZone for a diagnostic. They pointed me toward Kingsbury Auto for a new alternator. Called--no answer. Took a leap of faith and just drove there. Total "damsel in distress" moment the Thursday before Memorial Day, with a deadline to drive back to the Bay the next afternoon. And wow--I'm so glad I did. Elise was incredibly kind, helpful, and accommodating. You can tell it's a family-owned and operated shop, and they treat you like a human, not just a ticket number. We were on vacation last month in Tahoe when we experienced overheating with our ford f150. We called Kingsbury automotive, scince we were staying just up the hill from them.My husband talked to Elsie on the phone to see if we get get it in and she said they were booked for the week but she would see what she could do. We tried doing it ourselves but after the snow messed up our Jack, Shaun was nice enough to come out and help. He is both knowledgeable and quick. This family owned auto shop had amazing friendly honest service. I was in town for a quick vacation when my car decided to go out 25mins before getting into South Lake Tahoe. Had to get my car towed into town. Looked up some auto shops and very thankful I came across this one. I let them know my issue and they said they didn't have any openings for the day but could come in to get an diagnosis done. They were able to fit me in and find the issue. I ended up needing an alternator replacement but b/c it is an European car they had to ship the part over night. I let them know we were leaving in 3 days and they told me it would be no problem getting it done before I had to leave. Totally nice of her and Kingsbury Automotive to do that for me. Being on vacation makes a situation like that so much more stressful then it needs to be. They could have passed me along. Was camping at Zephyr Cove when I realized, at some point on the way in my front brakes were thrashed. Had to replace the front rotors and brakes. Called this place up and got nothing but the kindest and genuine folks you could ask for. Family owned and honest, they went over everything with me over the phone. Gave me a no BS price on how much the job would be. Tooke it in and had my car fixed in no time while me and the family wondered state line. They didn't take advantage of me knowing they full well could have. Picked up my car and brakes felt amazing had them do an oil change as well since I was due and why not. Brought my truck into this shop for a safety check as it had not been driven for a year because of the pandemic. The estimate I received was over $800.00. It included replacing belts and tensioners, and a complete rear brake job. I told them I'd think about this...took my truck to a different auto shop, was shown my brake rotors and calpers which needed NO Replacement, was shown my ONE belt which runs the truck, and again was told it was in GREAT Condition and did NOT need replacement. This other auto shop told me I almost got robbed! Needless to say, I was pretty angry...as I am a senior citizen and on a limited income. Dishonest people here! Be aware! read more

They took it in right away and told us they'd give us a call when it was finished. A couple hours they called and let us know they were done and everything worked great. Mercedes SLK 230 Birthday weekend in South Lake Tahoe got off to a black smoke start about 15 miles from our destination on I 50. Sunday is never a good day to break down with a transmission oil leak , no shops open and from out of town. Having a two hours wait for a tow wasn't bad it was the not knowing what the problem was and where to take the car in addition to how to get home.
