Background: I was in Canberra on business and a friend and I selected Kinn thai as we walked in off the street. We loved it so much that we came back a second time during our visit. The first time we sat outside on the patio right at opening (5pm) and the second time we sat inside closer to (6:30pm). Scenarios: [Outside] The first time it was nice and empty outdoors with a calm atmosphere to relax and chat. I ordered the chicken pad thai with a side of vegetables. My friend ordered the cashew nut sauce with chicken and a side of rice. It was a stir fry of fresh vegetables and chicken. The servers were present in case we needed anything but mostly gave us space which was nice. We both loved our meals and left feeling full and happy. [Indoors] The second time we came a bit later and the restaurant was fairly crowded. We decided to sit indoors at a table near the window. The tables near us were also full. The second time we both ordered the cashew nut chicken stir fry with a side of rice. We each selected a glass of wine as well. Again, great food, sufficient service and the atmosphere was inviting. Just a bit crowded -- but that means its popular! :) As I dont have any suggestions for improving for the business, I would have to give it 5 stars. This will be a favorite spot when I travel back to Canberra in the future. read more

High expectations were met with overpowering salt and sugar and no care taken. Duck pancake was awful. Pulled out the extremely over cooked and chewy duck and ate the bit of cucumber. Pork belly was just chilli and salt. Close to inedible. I feel sad the pig was treated so disrespectfully. I'm serious. The other thing we ordered was a coconut salad. Couldn't figure out if they were in the kitchen laughing or they served it horrible on purpose. Servers were inattentive, laughing at their phones instead of taking our order. High prices for poorly executed dishes. Too bad. I won't be back. read more

Opened this week, and is just what Canberra needs. Real Thai flavours; plenty of Thai basil, green peppercorns, Thai eggplants, lemongrass and lime leaves. The food is beautifully balanced; prawns in betel leaves have a delicious nutty flavour, seared scallops are perfectly cooked and have a lovely, astringent lime/lemongrass sauce. Stir fried seafood was packed full of fish, scallops and prawns. Great service too, and 25% discount on opening night so nothing to criticize. Bad food, rude staff, poor service! They wanted to call the police because I didn't want to pay for everyone else at the table! I work just around the corner from this place. Because my colleagues think it's cool to go there for all sorts of events, I've been there about a dozen times. The quality of food varies substantially. I am married to a Thai and have lived in Thailand. I know what authentic Thai food tastes like. Many of the dishes do not resemble authentic Thai cuisine, and I have already considered the fact that Thai recipes can vary, as well as the fact that ethic restaurants often water down the food to accommodate western pallets. Although my colleague and I ordered a specific Thai Basil Chicken, they replaced it with a similar dish because the dish we ordered wasn't available. They should have come back to us and not assumed we'd accept this. Then, a very unfriendly staff member didn't want me to pay for my portion of my bill via EFTPos. She wanted me to pay for everyone. As I did't have cash, I had to use EFTPos. Not being able to split a bill is ridiculous. I shouldn't have to pay for other people. The cashier then threatened to call the police. What kind of self-serving low-life service is this? It's the 21st Century. They should be able to split bills at the counter rather than inconvenience people to start throwing cash around, especially since we're becoming a cashless society. Perhaps this is a tax evasion trick? Either way, this place sucks. read more

'5 stars for the food. It's great. BUT. They pack you in too tightly with other guests. It's very difficult moving around. You have to move the table to be able to get out and around other guests. Not recommended. read more
