Traditional craftsmen selling everything from hand made glass ornaments trough to cross bows, swords, shields and so on. Everyone working at the market is dressed in medieval costumes and all the food is cooked over wood fire and the dishes are also old medieval delicacies. The place is packed with people so you need to be patient. The food stalls are packed and you can expect line ups on weekends. This is an extremely popular market with the locals and you will feel it the moment you step in. I would come here everyday if I could. One of the most beautifully done markets in my opinion :-))

Awesome! We rode the subway here and walked about 10 minutes into the large parade grounds/open field where this event (and Oktoberfest) is held annually. It was very easy to find with signage pointing us in the right direction. It's free to enter and roam around and shop and eat. We ate all kinds of street foods from the vendors and saw a few small "beer gardens" you can walk into and get a drink and stand and eat and talk. There are only two main tents at this spring festival, which is fine with me, because it hasn't happened in a few years due to COVID, both were completely packed with prior reservations and we weren't able to find a seat inside to eat. So, for the foreseeable future, I suggest you make reservation in advance if you really, really want to eat inside. You can find tons of traditional Bavarian food here and other things like churros and crepes to help satisfy you. There are a ton of fun rides as well that the younger crowd seemed to really be enjoying. With all of the foods I ate, didn't seem like a good idea to me! Make sure to bring cash because, most of the vendors aren't going to take cards. Some might, but it's just a better bet to have around $50-70 and if you plan to drink a lot, I'd bring even more.

They are very few breweries and beer vendors that are allowed to serve their beer at Oktoberfest and still be traditional, which was really cool to learn about ! My favourite activity at the Winter Tollwood was going to try Feuerzangenbowle a sickly sweet and alcoholic drink which is made from mulled wine and schnapps. What a wonderful treat and one of the few places in Munich where one can sample this delicacy. If you go to Winter Tollwood this is a must try. The indoor market is also quite good and there are all sorts of clothes, jewellery, food and other items to be purchased. All in all a fabulous way to spend a day in Munich during the winter months. I would happily come back here again and again if nothing else for the Feuerzangenbowle :-))

Walking through, I was suddenly extremely ill at ease and realized it wasn't a safe place for a woman alone. And the crowds were aggressor not moving. I asked someone to let me pass please (in German) and he snarled at me, so I said something colorful and shouldered him aside. If you aren't super assertive or get overwhelmed (I'm not and I do) please don't go alone at night. I found some delicious food elsewhere and never got roofied.

It usually lasts for 9 days and is held in May, July and October. This is one of the oldest markets in Munich and, dates back to the 14th century. The Auer Dult is considered to be the largest crockery market in Europe. Pots, porcelain and other ceramic wares are available at numerous Standl (stands). In addition, other household accessories, natural healing remedies, jewellery and clothes are available. Many stands also offer antiques. As with most markets and festivals, there are numerous food stands dotted throughout the place and, there is a small fairground with numerous rides for kids and adult kids ;-)) There is also a mini biergarten that serves beer and food, however, getting a seat on a busy day could be a challenge. Sundays are not great as it gets really crowded and that was certainly the case today, aided by great autumn weather. I did enjoy it and glad we went there. A friend of mine who lives in the area told me about it and I was glad he did :-)) Will come back here again in the future. Tip: try the waffle on a stick dipped in dark or white chocolate, it's divine ;-))

What a happy find! The BF and I spent about 3 hours here today going through the stalls. We bought small gifts for friends and family from several fine artisans. I especially loved watching the cooking and kitchen tool demonstrations from some amazing salespeople. Even though I don't speak any German, it was perfectly clear what they were saying about the various cookware and tools they demonstrated. If I lived In Munich this is absolutely where I would come to buy kitchen goods, dishes, garden ceramics, and more. Lovely antiques section too. Check the calendar and go!

A fabulous festival in the outskirts of Munich. I call it a mini Oktoberfest without the huge…read morecrowds :-) I must admit I really enjoyed the atmosphere, Festbier and the food was excellent. It was a rainy day and we decided to drop in and check it out. I only heard about this recently from friends and, going on a not so busy day, was a great idea. We parked about 50m from the festival and it cost €2.80 for 4 hours :-)) There are a number of rides, game stalls for kids and adults. Lots of small food places selling the usual festival fare commonly seen throughout Bavaria like candied nuts, chocolate coated fruits, Brezen, sausages and so on. There are also three or four beer tents with a capacity of not more than a few hundred people and one big one with the Bavarian band and so on. They also had a couple of cocktail bars around just to make it a bit more interesting. We ended up in the big tent and they served a darker festbier which was really nice. The food here was also excellent and service quick. We had taken friends that had arrived from Australia here and they loved it too. I specially loved the Schwineshaxe....tender meat and crispy cracking...yummmm :-) I would happily come back here next year. The festival runs for about 2 weeks during this time of year.

This Christmas Market was at the top of our list to check out while visiting Munich in late…read moreNovember. We're always looking for opportunities that are LGBTQIA+ friendly and this sounded like so much fun. We ended up visiting twice, once on our first night and on our final night. DJ James Munich was playing music both nights. The holiday music was great and there were plenty of songs that got the crowd singing and dancing along to them. We really enjoyed "Pink Christmas" which is a song from DJ James Munich and found ourselves singing it throughout the rest of the trip. This market can get very crowded and was mostly people grouped together enjoying delicious mulled wine and other drinks. They did have a couple food options as well as some shops but the crowd was mostly enjoying the music and each others' company. The market itself is lit in pink with Santas hanging from the lights and you can see it from the street as you walk up. The mulled wine is served in .2 liter rainbow glasses that have a 5 Euro deposit. I'm pretty sure they expect people to take them home, because they're so cute and the pfand should cover all the glasses that "go missing". The line here for drinks can also get crazy long, so jumping back in to get your pfand back may not be worth dealing with the crowd. We decided to keep ours as keepsakes and we love them.
