Through word of mouth we heard about Oliver's shop in Triberg; cuckoo clock central in the Black Forest. I searched the web and after much back and forth Oli shipped the perfect clock right to my front door. My house is now a home. "cuckoo" Note: the clock came bubble wrapped in a box of peanuts inside another box of peanuts. But shipping by sea from Germany took many weeks.

This shop is DISHONEST and a SCAM. My "brand new, custom made" clock was made with parts that are…read moreover 50 years old. Now it's in the repair shop where I have to spend 50% of the purchase price to get it fixed into the shape it should have been in when I bought it. Avoid this place like the plague, and keep reading for details. I bought a clock here in October 2015 after doing my research and finding that this shop was supposedly the best in the Black Forest. I spent a whole month's salary on a clock expecting that I was paying for quality. I had a slight problem when I first received the clock in the mail. One of the dancers on the turntable was out of place so it kept getting stuck in the doorway. I asked Oli's to fix it, and they told me to just pop the dancer off and re-glue it in the proper place. I was irritated, but thankfully my dad is a woodworker and could help. I let it go. But now, less than 5 years later, my clock completely stopped working. My local clock expert who is doing the repairs said that the mechanism Oli's used to build my clock was made in the 1970s. The cuckoo bird hasn't been made in over 50 years. The dancers were supposed to spin as they turned around the turntable - they've never done that. Oli's is taking shortcuts and using old parts and passing them off as brand new clocks. So much for being the best clockmakers in the Black Forest. The only thing they're best at is being shady.

I also paid an import duty to the US (also expected). After calculating the overall cost with shipping, the price of the clock was still very competitive & even a little LESS than purchasing within the US. The shipping was extraordinarily fast & the clock was so well packaged. I'm keeping the original sturdy box & shipping materials in case the clock needs to be shipped in the future. I was so worried about this purchase because, for me, the clock is a luxury item. I found that the best way to communicate with this business is with a FB message. I was put at ease. I'd have absolutely NO reservations ordering another clock from Haus Der 1000 Uhren in the future! It truly was a stellar experience for me.

Our friends found a gigantic clock to have shipped home to California. The store is still special and I love it. My only issue I had this time was that the sales associates felt like they worked on commission and were quite possessive once they started helping someone that they had to be the one to check you out, even if they had started helping someone else. We even witnessed two clerks get into an argument over it which was awkward and uncomfortable. But the selection is great and they have clocks for any budget.

The cuckoo which weighs about 330lbs 'rings' every half hour. Very glad we saw the noon display. However we ran into the 'disabled' issue once again. There are NO disabled toilets, or toilets without paying to see the workings of the clock. There is also no disabled parking. We were told to go to the local town of Triburg to use a disabled toilet. The town sits on a VERY steep hill which if you have a larger person with mobility issues is a big workout. All in all don't make a special trip, but stop if you are driving past.

There were so many different unique clocks that we got to see. A little pricey for me but worth the price considering the craftsmanship that is put into them. We also got to eat at the restaurant above the shop that served German cuisine. Although the kitchen wasn't prepared to take on a party the size as mine, they were able to accommodate and the food was delicious. My wife also bought some of their staple cherry wine that they were serving as samples when we arrived. All in all, this was such a beautiful place to visit and I recommend anyone to visit if they are able too.
