Luckily, there was a gap and we managed to drive on... We definitley deserved the pint and a large roast after that truly country experience! I went for the pork roast with potatoes and crackling, with seasonal vegetables serves 'family style' as we were all having a roast. Everything was nice enough, but not out of this world. The meat was a touch thin, and I'm not a fan of being served both mashed and roast potatoes. I went for a dessert of apple crumble (listed, quite mysteriously, just as crumble on the menu) which was nice and chunky, rounding the meal off well. Service was friendly, with the front of house - and, I assume, manager - taking the time to speak to everyone who entered the pub or restaurant area. They cut your steak open to see if it's done for a start (don't be a chef if you can't tell when a steak is done). On the first go around I was served a tactical missile instead of a steak, second time around I got medium rare as asked. The rubber bullets (king prawns) were vulgar, they are most likely the reason why I've had food poisoning (peeing out my butt and dealing with severe nausea the past 36 hours.) Additionally this place is extremely overpriced, over 20 quid for an 8oz rump steak and 3 prawns. Absolutely. Shocking. I cannot advise people enough to stay away from this place at all costs before they kill someone. They need to be shut down.

My all-time favorite dish here is the Lamb Vindaloo (5/5 £13.35) -- a fiery, spicy curry with tender lamb. I enjoy it with a side of Corriander Naan (5/5 £3.85) and some Mango Lassi. Located in a former Methodist church, the Sultan has kept many of the church's features in the dining room, which contribute to the atmosphere. It also does not serve alcohol, but there's a pub nearby for a pint before dinner. The staff has always been welcoming, friendly and attentive.

The food came within a decent time and was hot, which is always a positive sign especially as I was part of a large group. Overall, I wouldn't tell people not to visit Sultans. But rather, I would tell them there are better places in Lancaster if you want Indian/Pakistani food. But this is only my opinion, based on one dining.

There was not a lot of filling and it was hard to taste the meat as it seemed like the spices had overpowered the meat itself. I have had rabbit and venison before, but I have never had pheasant and I was looking forward to tasting it, but it was a bit useless to try and figure it out. I will say that their mashed potatoes were fantastic. They were creamy and lovely with the gravy. Helen agreed with me on the pie. Even though we were stuffed, we couldn't pass up dessert... so Phil had the Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding, Helen had the Grasmere Gingerbread Cheesecake, and I had the Cartmel Sticky Chocolate Pudding. All of them were good, and I was completely content with mine.
