I was particularly impressed that they have a separate vegetarian menu with items that are also vegan or can be prepared vegan. The note on the menu stating that parmesan cheese is not vegan gave me a chuckle and I suspect it might be borne of some weird conversation they've had with a pedantic customer. But in any case parmesan is made with animal rennet so is neither vegan nor vegetarian. Loved my meal as did my fellow diners. Nice staff and hats off to the person who chose the colour scheme and decoration. If I've one tip it would be to stay the heck away from the conservatory when the sun shines unless you like eating in a sauna. Lovely views of Arran and the Carrick hills. Worth a visit.

They serve high quality pub grub and a decent selection of ales at reasonable prices. There are specials on certain days of the week, as well as an early bird menu. When I last went they were doing a Friday Night Steak Night offer - £30 got you two generous steak dinners and a bottle of wine. I didn't have that but it looked quite good and was obviously packing the punters in. Would recommend it for informal dining in a friendly atmosphere.

The prawns were obviously not dipped in flour before the batter "the real way" as I could see the prawns too. This batter was light, white and really crisp. A sign of ice cold batter hitting the oil. I had 5 huge ones with a really nice tangy sweet chilli dip. And it was all salted. I could have ordered another portion of them. At £5.95, I was so tempted lol then I ordered the Duck main £9.95. Usually this is where I catch people's cooking skills. The duck came out. Cooked very pink. The way it should be. I thought the effort of scoring the skin so tight paid off, as the skin was really crisp, and the salt and pepper was just right on the skin. Was served with 2 half baby potatoes, cooked crisp, it was also served with a really buttery smooth fluffy mash potato. 2 types of potatoes. I think the baby potatoes were a garnish. It was garnished with panache of buttered vegetables, well seasoned. A lovely sweet red cabbage. I think braised, and had a lovely shine. The Jus was nice and strong with a sweet red wine taste. Staff were lovely. Food, I never really needed to wait long. On the Duck alone. Probably the best duck anyone has served me. Nice and pink, esp how the skin was cooked. Now I feel hungry again:(
