This is not my first experience with awful doctors who don't care about mental health here. I could be running late which can happen sometimes Happen Lucky that I called up saying that I might be round 5 to 10 minutes late, and then I was told that this has been changed to 5 minutes so if I was over five minutes late I would not be seen Plus, sometimes the receptionist the give you the wrong information and I don't want to mention any names, but they have rude receptionist .. They have another surgery on Craven Road I think, but this one is closer for me. It's a beautiful Victorian building, all high ceilings and big doors and windows, and there's a car park round the back (off Grove Lane), although it's meant to be for staff and disabled customers only but there's always plenty of space so I park there anyway. There's a nifty new electronic log-in when you arrive which is a bit confusing, but the reception staff are helpful if you need a hand. The practice nurse is hilarious and very good at relaxing you if you're a bit nervous.

When I was unfortunate enough to warrant a visit here on an emergency appointment the staff were quick and efficient and very friendly and helpful. I went straight in to see a lovely doctor who was that nice to me that she made me cry! She quickly sussed out my situation and sorted me a prescription out. Even better is that they have a Lloyds pharamacy attached to the side of the building so it's really convenient to go and pick up what ever you need.

So I registered here, which was easy and simple. There was no waiting list, which was excellent since this is a highly populated area. I had my first appointment and everything went really smoothly. I wasn't completely comfortable talking in great depth about my health issues, mostly since I felt they were not altogether major, and I think to some extent one needs to become accustomed to one's new doctor before you start spouting every little problem. Anyway, the doctor I saw was lovely and helpful, very calming and very informative. What more could you want?

Now I am also a bit of a hypochondriac and once got myself into a bit of a worry over something or other, and despite probably thinking I was a bit pathetic the doctor I saw (a woman who I'm afraid I can't remember the name of!) was absolutely lovely and sympathetic and managed to get the perfect balance between objective advice and gentle sympathy...so I didn't feel as stupid as I probably seemed! I also staggered there once rather under-dressed in the cold weather with a severe temperature and generally feeling hideous while I was supposed to be finishing my dissertation in time for the fast-approaching deadline! The doctor I saw then was great and instantly gave me a note stating that I had a 'very serious viral infection' or similarly strong terms which really put my mind at rest when desperately requiring an extention! Overall a generally very positive experience with all doctors I saw.

Especially if, like me, you wait until you are ill to register with a doctor. There is nothing worse than trying to track down vital information about your medical history, when you feel vulnerable and rotten! One Medicare @ The Light is split into two sections, a doctors surgery and a drop-in centre for emergencies. I have visited both, and have always received good and useful advice. Although it is situated right in the centre of town, I have not experienced any problems in booking an appointment. I have also been successful in requesting the attention of a female doctor or nurse, an option which is important to me and which should be offered. The website is useful, giving guidance on how to book an appointment and order a repeat prescription. Finding the surgery is quite a task if you are not familiar with its location. There is an large, wooden door next to the main entrance near Brown's, which leads you through to a lift straight up to the doctors. Failing that there is an entrance inside The Light, on the same level as the Vue cinema, a bizarre journey in. I have completed simpler orienteering courses, and this one is sometimes made twice as arduous due to the paper bag on my head, in the case of any face related medical problems! Although I have only visited One Medicare @ The Light a few times, I have never had any problems with the surgery and would recommend both the doctors and the drop-in centre.
