I love this lake and park…read more. Our church has been coming here for their annual picnic/baptism ceremony, the past several years.. I have been along the past three years and have really enjoyed hanging out here each time. The park is beautiful and maintained very well, the amenties are generous for being a public park. there is a small charge of course, but it is worth it. The beach is clean, the lake is beautiful, and the swimming area is very safe, albeit a bit shallow, but great for toddlers and pre-teens to play and cool off on a hot summer day. Hungry?? the field house offers snacks and light food, such as hot dogs, chips, soda, ice cream. Or, you can bring along a BBQ grill or use the grills provided and whip up something you toted along. Grab a spot by one of the many picnic tables and relax. There are some real nice walking paths for those of you that enjoy soaking up nature and hiking thru the prairie. Great place to snap some nature pics or give the kids a nature tour. I would give this place five stars if they put the volleyball nets back up.. but that is just me just feeling a bit disappointed we were unable to play beach volleyball..

This short little trail can be walked in less than ten minutes and may not offer much in the way of…read morebreathtaking natural splendor, but I did see or hear at least ten different kinds of birds, including several warblers. The trail itself is a mix of wood chips and mowed grass, and a few sections may pose a challenge to people with problems balancing on uneven ground. That said, there was no poison ivy anywhere close to the trail. The trail criss-crosses with the Van Slyke Creek, a creek that is roughly 8' wide and rolls along at a decent clip. If you're patient and have good timing, you can see trout and other fish as well as frogs. For younger children, there are a few stations at which the book "Old Shell, New Shell" are posted. To read this start to finish, one should start the trail at the Mill House Pavilion at the west end of the trail, close to the Fontana Elementary School.

Nestled up in McHenry County on Elizabeth Lake this nature preserve has 2 miles of trails with views of the surrounding 345 acres. I took a photo of the map but their website also has a nice one posted there as well. I wish the trails went all the way around the lake but due to the makeup of the ground/marshy area, preservation efforts, etc. the trails are all on one side of the preserve. It's a lovely setting with a large variety of wildflowers, prairie grasses, plants & trees to take in and the songbirds were in full effect on our visit. There are no restroom facilities here so plan accordingly. The trails are a mowed path with a few footbridges so if it has rained recently the paths could be wet/muddy, especially in the shady areas. We had to turn back twice due to areas that were too wet/muddy to get through in the footwear we had on but would have been doable with hiking footwear. We still enjoyed most of the trail with me in my sandals. There is seating near the parking lot at the overlook/entrance area but no other benches along the trails...but with just 2 miles of trails not really necessary for most.

Beware of ticks in the warmer months. The grasses usually prevent it from getting too muddy. The trail is pretty well maintained and the map is available at the beginning of the trail so you can choose your loop.

The rolling hills are overall easy to moderate for the most part. The colors of trees where amazing at this time of year and really enjoyed the cooler weather as we hiked along the well maintained trails. We hiked the glacial park loop for about 2.3 miles and brought our dog who loved it! I would highly recommend heading to Glacial Park for this wonderful sights and wild life adventure!

Very nice short paved hike and unique historic site. Paradise Springs is a natural spring, with 500…read moregallon per hour output. There's a nice interpretive booklet that helps explain numbered highlights. There's a cool decaying building over the springs, which was purely ornamental, the springs works whether its covered or not. The Petit (Pabst) family owned the property and put in a lot of features like a circular wading pool, a gazebo. The springs were bottled and sold until the 1960s, and another owner ran water powered electric in the early 1900s; the first house with electricity in the area. The pond is stocked w/Brook Trout for catch and release only. And across the way there's an old homestead from the 1860s which is in great condition. This is a nice short hike with lots to learn about.

We even got married in the gazebo in 2009. Ya this place is deeply imbedded in my heart. The care taker rob is an amazing guy that keeps the park clean and safe and will help anyone out whenever needed. I don't think everyone here realizes how much he does and how great he does it!! There are 4 very nice parks with a lot of the same equipment that i grew up with but are in great shape. There are also plenty of new additions. There is also 2 basketball courts, a volleyball court, 4 shuffleboard courts, a baseball diamond, a huge private beach and plenty more. Great fishing is to be had from the boat launch pier if you don't have your own pier. My grandparents had this cottage when i was a kid and now my parents own the cottage. I hope my kids will bring there future kids to experience everything we have. Any time i have a few days off work this is where i want to be. A lot of cottages rent them out so if your looking for a nice get away avoid lake geneva and rent a cottage here.
