My sister and I wanted to take our cousin somewhere nice and different for celebratory drinks. My sister suggested that we try Farside as she had been once before and had met the owner Eddy through friends. Farside is a small bar located down Parnell Road between Renkon and Burgerfuel. If you are looking at a map, it is quite hard to spot and most of the time, you will walk straight past it! We only went for drinks, but they were all delicious! Farside has an extensive cocktail list, which my cousin and I happily chose from! All the cocktails had cool names and interesting flavours, which is something you would not find in a bar/club in town! Overall, the best drinks we had were a Margarita with a salt rim and a Cosmopolitan with a sugar rim (see pictures) - both were yummy! The décor was nice and the music interesting, which we all liked. Farside plays all sorts of music, so it is great for everybody! It had a cool vibe to it all night - we even had a boogie in the corner when Queen came on! Farside also serves a range of bar snacks including cheese and cold meat platters with vegetarian options as well, which would be great to share with a group of friends - and a few of their amazing cocktails as well!

Oh and playing pool, sometimes. But it seems that grown-ups enjoy this place too, and not just in an ironic faux-slumming way. Turns out people actually like pool, I guess. Which works out well, because that's what the Ponsonby Pool Hall is all about. Plus, now that you're of age, you can enjoy a drink with your game. In the open, I mean - one that you bought there rather than smuggled in zipped up in your oversized backpack. What weirds me out most is that the place isn't even full of obnoxious, drunkenly underage teenagers. Where did they all go? They must be secretly drinking somewhere, but wherever it is I'm glad it's not here...

Unlike most bars…read morethat revolve around pool and other such games, this Pool Hall isn't remotely seedy and you don't feel like you have to be a pool-genius to enjoy a few games with friends. With lots of tables available for hire, and both big-ball and small-ball tables on hand, the Ponsonby Pool Hall caters to everyone from beginners to expert pool players. The Ponsonby Pool Hall also boasts a full bar, with beers, wines and spirits readily available. So boys grab a pint and enjoy a game, while girls you can indulge in a vodka lime or nice wine! Open during the day and well into the night, Ponsonby Pool Hall is a fun place to spend a few hours, and located conveniently under the Ponsonby Foodcourt, great meals are right at your finger tips! Tip: One of the staff members is this cool local guy that's worked there for six years and is absolutely amazing at pool. It's pretty great watching him play - keep an eye out next time you're there.

The days of playing in the streets ended about the same time as disco... My brothers and I kept ourselves busy by playing pool, and I must admit we became quite good at it too, so good we've won a few trophies to brag about. Nowadays I don't play as often as I would like, and with a baby in the house, my chances are really looking slim. So, to increase my playing time, I've started shopping around to get my own table, and I've seen the one I want, and it is waiting for me at Barton McGill Ltd in Glenfield. Located above the Glengarry's on Dominion Road, Bar Eden is a locally renowned sports bar and pool hall. My sister has been meeting her friends there most weekends since she turned 18, and I can see why. Though not a very flash joint, Bar Eden is a really relaxed place to meet up with groups of friends and have some fun playing pool. As with most pool and sports bars, Bar Eden is a bit seedy, but when you get to know the staff (and the regulars) everyone is actually really nice and it can be a really good time. Bar Eden have both big and small pool ball tables, depending on your experience level as well as shuffleboard tables, TVs to watch the game on and a full bar. Next time you're in Mt Eden and fancy a casual night with your friends, give Bar Eden a go.

It also offers pool tables at a great 6 dollars an hour, as well as shuffleboard, darts, and the pokies if you fancy a flutter after watching your team destroy the other one (or to pick up some cash to drown your sorrows.) They play anything that Sky Sport is playing, and are happy to change to whatever you'd prefer, as there are plenty of TV's around to show different games. There's also a free jukebox, so its a good place to just go on a weeknight and play some pool with your friends.

There were plenty free for my friends and I to use, which was convenient as we decided to have a bit of a pool competition! The bar itself was pretty good - there was a decent selection of wines, beers and spirits available. However whole they had a variety of cocktail options advertised, when my friend asked for a pina colada, the bartender actually had to Google how to make it. This was a pretty bizarre situation, but was also good for a bit of a laugh. On the whole I probably wouldn't be rushing back to Miss Q's, as the atmosphere was a bit seedy - as well as having pool tables, Miss Q's also has lots of pokies so attracts some pretty average patrons. Plus, as someone who isn't really in to sport, Miss Q's was never going to be a perfect match for me. That having been said, playing pool was really fun, and due to its casual atmosphere it is a great place to keep in mind if you and your friends just feel like getting a bit rowdy and can't be bothered heading all the way in to town!

The pub is a spacious sports bar with ample seating and more than a couple of pools tables. It has it's regulars slouched over the pokies or arched toward the TV screens. Some local band might belt out some pub anthems on a Wednesday or Thursday night. It also attracts a lot of attention from the younger groups leaving the near-by cinema or bowling alley mid week.
