When we were there, the wait was quite long but the restaurant was full and there was only one waiter and a bartender, so we excused that because the waiter was lovely and patient. They didn't have any English menus for us but she (the waiter) took her time to explain everything we asked about. The food was great and quite large portions, and the price wasn't bad either. Would definitely come again!

I arrived in Hamburg and wanted to stay close to my hotel for dinner. I came across Opitz, a very…read morenice and what appears to be traditional German restaurant and gave it a try. The atmosphere is cozy traditional. It's down a few steps from the street level and you enter a somewhat dark, candle lit dining area. The tables and seating seem to be an eclectic collection that work well together. My server was prompt and I ordered a "Jever" pilsner beer to start. She brought over an English menu and made some suggestions. I took her suggestion for "Pork medallions with button mushrooms ala creme and fried potatoes". This was three thick slices of pork tenderloin. This and the potatoes were delicious and a very generous portion. Enough for two meals, but I ate it all anyway. :) I wanted a somewhat traditional German-style meal and I believe that I got it. :) Cheers.
