I had previously been bouncing around dentists after mine retired, and ended up having an unpleasant experience at a corporate dental clinic so I really wanted to find someone non-corporate. To start with, the receptionists were friendly and helpful when I was booking my appointment, and provided reminders as the appointment approached. When I arrived, I was happy to see that they have great COVID protocols in place. They seem to be well organized, and I didn't have to wait for my appointment. Dr. Okamura was wonderful. He's friendly, personable, knowledgeable and very kind. It is obvious that his patients' well being is his utmost concern. He is patient, and takes the time to explain things carefully. He also didn't try to up sell me on all of the things the corporate dental clinic was trying to tell me I needed. His approach is more conservative and careful, which I really appreciated. He shared his plan with me, and was upfront and honest about the issues I have with my teeth. He did a very thorough initial exam, even measuring my jaw and noting issues with how it opens and closes through various tests (I've never had a dentist do this before). I have had a problem with one of my teeth for almost a year now, which several dentists have tried to fix, but Dr. Okamura referred me to a specialist to take a look before we do anything, and I really appreciated that as well. All-in-all it was a great first appointment, and I feel reassured that I have found the right dentist for me!

So slow that in i and 15 mins. hours with only one set of x-rays. I did not get the top teeth cleaned. I had to leave and will not go back... The price was astronomical considering the job wasn't finished.

At that point she and I left and cancelled our current appointments. We have received no follow up or apology from the clinic at this time. I am incredibly disappointed and angry that in 2024 a care provider would say something so obviously inappropriate to a client he has met once previously. I would hope he will learn to better understand boundaries and proper behavior going forward.

They don't try to sell you products or extra services. They just do what they have to do and this is it. The price is very affordable. You get a lot a goodies after, to make sure that you floss and a new toothbrush. They call you after 6 months for your cleaning. They are very good at that. Just no complain at all .....just that you go to the dentist ;-)

Shortly thereafter he moved to his current W. Broadway location and I followed him there even though it's not very convenient for me but a good dentist is worth the trip. He's always been personable, friendly and knowledgeable. He keeps up on what's current in the dental industry. His office seems to run pretty much like clock work and it is rare to be kept waiting more than 5 minutes past the appointment time. The front office staff is the best - friendly and nice every single time I've visited the office. One staff in particular, Antonella, has been with him for eons and that says a lot about how Dr. Okamura must be as an employer. His dental assistant has also been with him for years too, but the hygienists always seem to come and go. Years ago when extensive work was required with not much dental covererage, Dr. Okamura even accepted postdated cheques. I've never forgotten that and think it shows the epitome of his character. If you're looking for a great friendly Dentist then Dr. Wayne Okamura fits the bill to a tee.

After a hasty emergency surgery, I was left with a lopsided smile that I hid, and an intense distrust of dentists. When I finally decided to do something about it, a friend of mine recommended West 9th Dental. She had also needed extensive work done, and assured me that the staff were gentle and attentive. Her smile had come out looking like a Crest commercial, so I took the plunge, and decided to get my crowns replaced. The attention to detail and care showed by the staff put me at ease, but what impressed me most was how much they checked in with me. Unlike other dentists, Dr. Rai and her staff really made me feel heard, both during the procedure, as well as after. They're serious about building your perfect smile. The past two years with Dr Tran have been great! She is kind, patient, and respectful of my situation. She has been generous with procedures to keep my fangs in top chomping shape; I know, every dentist should be like this. Marlene the hygienist is a marvel. She's working on her degree at UBC, so always has fresh ideas. I love that her instrument tray is sparkling and everything is arranged with the touch of an artist. What convinced me to review Dr Tran was seeing two young children laughing and running to get into the dental chair. Wait - aren't kids afraid of the dentist? And the kids don't get to visit the treasure chest until after the appointment, so it wasn't giddiness over a new trinket. So I'm not a special patient after all. Dr Tran is a special dentist! Plus, she was not wearing a mask. The hygienist and dentist were great, but I expect better service from front end staff (and feel safe) when I visit a medical facility, especially if I'm going to spend dollars there. The receptionist made me feel like they did not want my business.
