Brought my older yorkie in to have her teeth cleaned and a check up and she is typically terrified of the vet. I was quite surprised how comfortable she felt with the staff. Such a relief and you can tell they really care about your pet. Pricing is about normal. read more

This is a great vet if you want to be seen fast. But they will charge you an arm and a leg for anything you need done. My dog had horrible teeth so they removed all her teeth except the front. It was a huge amount of money for the teeth removal. They also told me she most likely had cancer on breast tissue. They suggested we get her fixed remove her breast and nipple. They told me that it would be another outrages amount. I love my dog and the thought that she was in any pain was upsetting. We decided to take her to her regular vet and get her fixed we also asked them to remove the lump. It's been over a year and she's fine they didn't need to remove the whole breast. Plus our regular vet was much more reasonable. Now if I can only get off the email list! read more

This Veteranian is worse than horrible. On 12/6/2024 the birthing parents took the litter of puppies to Dr. Kittel. I took 2 puppies the next day, one for myself and one which would go to my son on Christimas. For my son's puppy, Dr. Kittel stated "More prominent umbilicus, but no open hernia detected." On my puppy, nothing was noted, but she had a more significant umbilicus bump. Approximately 2 weeks later Jenni Byerly DVM at his office stated there definitely was a hernia for the one Dr. Kittel noted as no open hernia detected and she stated it must have bulged out more. When I told her I had a picture of it from 12/7/2024 and if anything, it was smaller, her response was well I didn't exam the puppy and it definitely has a hernia. She went on to say she did not detect testicles on the then 10-week puppy and extensive surgery would be required to correct that and the hernia. That may be necessary, but many puppies' testicles don't come down until much later. On the other puppy she said it would be corrected when spayed. They also asked if I was brushing the puppies' teeth and giving them greenies. When I replied no, they said I should start immediately. Whereas I agree getting puppies familiar with brushing is a good idea, greenies at that age can cause significant damage. Even the greenie maker recommends not using until adult teeth. They also said puppy training should start immediately. When I questioned that advice as they would not be fully vaccinated for quite some time, her response was socialization is just as important as vaccinations. I've had many puppies and NEVER received such bad advice. They provided so much bad advice that I am surprised they are licensed. Further, one puppy was 6.8 lbs. They gave me an advantage prescription for 3-9 lbs., but the medicine in the bottle was actually for 9.1 to 20 lbs. I question everything they did or did not do as they took the puppies away to give the vaccinations. I would NEVER go back to this veterinarian even if I was paid to do so! I have since gone to another veterinarian who gave me sound advice about the hernia and did not recommend the "protocol" that Kittel was pushing for vaccinations. So glad Kittel is in my rear-view mirror. If you love your animal avoid this vet like the plaque! read more

I absolutely love this vet! This place is great along with the amazing staff! My dog needed an emergency appointment. They were able to schedule one the next day. Thank you to the office manager! Since it's during the COVID-19, I was not allowed in the veterinary hospital. They made it super easy for me to drop off my dog for her appointment. Dr. Kittel called me over and explained everything to me. She got her rabies shot and also her stitches cleaned since she was an escape artist. He was really nice and thorough with everything! They called me back when she was ready to be picked up. It was a super easy process. I would highly recommend this place! The staff and Dr. Kittel will take good care of your pet! read more

My cat has a foxtail buried in her skin. I called to request a rough order of magnitude on cost to remove (not a quote, I understand they'd need to see her for a quote). They said they wouldn't give an estimate w/o seeing her. I'm assuming they've removed thousands of foxtails and they could say best case / worst case w/in $300 or $400 for each case. I really wanted to like this place but they have disappointed me. I had an appointment at 9. Was not seen till 9:45. No one came in to let me know what was going on. I had to go out of the waiting room and asked when will my pet be seen. Finally, front desk said there was a mixed up on schedule. Fine. So I waited another 10-15 mins and finally the vet came in. She did not introduce her(first time meeting her) nor did she apologize for being late. Then I had email them asking about my dog's allergies and the receptionist said I would hear back from the vet within 24-48 hrs. Of course, nothing. Best Vet in Elk Grove!!!! My very vicious pit bull who will attack you with kisses isn't always welcomed with open arms in a lot of places. They've seen him since he was 8 weeks old (he's 2 now) and always greet him with treats and hugs. He had some issues with allergies, seizures, and that one time he ate my kids Halloween candy (lol) and they always give great advice and genuinely care about your pets well being. read more

I have brought my 10 year old cat and 1 year old pit mix to Kittel. I initially decided to give them a call when I adopted my pup. At the time, Kittel was one of the only vets that accepted the shelter's voucher for a free check-up. I have been pleased ever since. My cat had a dental procedure done which required him to be placed under anesthesia and I was extremely nervous throughout the process. The staff kept me updated throughout the day and Dr. Kittel called me as soon as the procedure was over. Overall, Dr.Kittel and Dr. Plagman were both kind and compassionate during my pets' visits. The staff is also great and very patient with the animals to ensure the little fur balls are not stressed during their visit. Prices are very reasonable and the quality of care you receive is exceptional. I can't imagine taking my pets anywhere elsewhere. read more

Adopted my pup from Kritter Kamp Rescue and they offered a free initial check up here! This place is AMAZING!!! First impressions of the facility were that it was spotless! If I hadn't known it was a vet clinic, I wouldn't have guessed they see animals there! The scale was tucked away behind a wall and exam rooms were off to the side. The place was rid of dog/cat hair!! Dan (as he introduced himself) was the vet who saw my new pup, Printz. I was concerned that my new pup wasn't eating, drinking, peeing or pooping like he normally should. I contributed this to spending his whole 3 year life in the shelter and after being adopted, it was a culture shock to him. Dan addressed all my concerns, ordered all the necessary tests and provided me with all the meds/food that were prescribed in my pup's care plan. Dan was completely thorough and professional! I was even surprised that HE was the one to call me about my pup's lab work and what to follow up on! Dan takes the time to listen to you and your concerns and doesn't make you feel like he's rushing you out the door! Dr.B is a recovery Veternarian, providing coverage assistance when Dr. Kittel takes a day off! My dog's nail trim appointment fell under the guidance of Dr B (this office requires an exam before a nail trim), due to COVID-19 I had to remain in my car, which made me uncomfortable to not be in the room during the exam. I asked if they could FaceTime, "no, we don't have the technology for that", Dr can call you on speaker phone". Dr. B calls, findings: weight gained 4 lbs, a tumor that needs biopsy, mass on his eyelid, teeth cleaning:$2K. Ok. I agree. Biopsy: all fat no cancer cells. I make a follow up for surgery 3 weeks later, under Dr.Kittel care, same situation (I wait outside) just as I am putting car in reverse the tech runs out, arms in the air "wait!! What eye is the mass located in? Dr can't find it?" HELL NO demanded my dog out of there. Beware of Dr B!! Beware of Dr B! Beware of Dr B !!! I wonder , so she makes commission to up sell unnecessary surgery's? What kind of medicine does this woman practice under Dr Kittel, that he is unaware? He pays her salary though? A good vet is hard to find nowadays and this one wasn't it. Three words, fear upsell and spam. I brought my two dogs in. One for a 1 year check up and the other for a wound that got infected and potty issues. I just adopted the 1 year old and she was well taken care of by the previous owner. I was asked if I had records of her shots, and being the previous owner was pretty much a stranger who lives in Redding, I did not. Kittel said I would need start all over with the puppy shots to the tune $300 plus. I got one year shots at VIP pet clinic with no problems. Then I was asked if my dogs were on any heartworm medication and they were not. After a long scary story how it very deadly and expensive once contracted by mosquitos, I lose $38 for heartworm tests. My brain was telling me they are indoor dogs and are on flea tick and mosquito medication, but the fear got the best of me. Lastly they exam my older dog and say he's healthy. When I remind them about his potty issues, kittel say he will need an ultrasound just to figure out what going on. No stool sample, no blood test, no x Ray. Straight to the $400 ultrasound. 2 stars for being friendly and not making me feel guilty for decline most of their recommendations and fixing my older dogs infected wound, but don't ever give them your email. They said it was to keep in touch with routine services, but you will be spammed daily with all the ways you can spend more money at kittel. read more

I had a good experience at Kittle! My friend Allison recommended this vet, they were having a vaccine clinic which was the main reason I booked an appointment. Free exam with purchase of vaccines. The staff was very friendly, waiting area is small, the exam room I was in was very clean. I would recommend others to come here based on the good experience I had today. I've been going to Dr. Kittel and his staff for over 10 years now and they are all amazing people! Each of my dogs has had their own list of ailments throughout the years and they have all been treated with the best care here. Many different services have been provided to us throughout the years and they continue to impress me. My dogs have gotten their basic care here, in addition to spay/neuter procedures, ultrasounds, cardiology, etc. I've had a couple dogs with unique health issues and the staff always goes above and beyond my expectations. Of course, getting treatment can be expensive, especially without insurance, but that is something I expect for my pets. I have never been shamed for asking that something be removed from their treatment plan if it wasn't feasible for me at the time. The staff here advocates for the best health for your pets and I feel extremely grateful to have them in my corner! This place is terrible! I took my dog in because I had a free voucher from the kennel I adopted her from. The assistant took me to a room and "prepared" me for the appointment. She said the vet will probably recommend a series of shots even though my dog probably already had her shots. She said they're not really necessary, but it's up to me. Sure enough that's what happened. So then they looked at my dog and everything was fine. Then like a well orchestrated dance, the vet stepped in front of me while the assistant scooped up my dog and took her out of the room. They FOR SURE practiced this move. They said "don't worry, we're just going to take her temperature and stuff". It was the most awkward feeling ever. They came back in without my dog, but they had the "paperwork". That's when they started talking about all the money I should spend for my new family member. I felt like I was buying a timeshare. I said "where's my dog at?" They said "she's fine, she's in a cage in the other room." ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME! Why would you put my dog in a cage where she could pick up all kinds of diseases since she hasn't gotten ALL of her shots yet!?!? I've never had a vet take my dog out of the room for her temperature. And why would you put her in a cage? That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. Really they need to be investigated for shady practices. read more

I've brought 2 cats and a puppy to be cared for by Dr. Kittel over the last 4 years and there is no other vet I would trust with our furry friends. Dr. Kittel quite literally saved the lives of both of my cats. My first cat was experiencing unexpected weightless and sudden loss of appetite. Through an ultrasound, Dr. Kittel found a mass in his intestine (he swallowed foam from a mat). It was removed through a surgery which he quickly recovered from (despite being a geriatric cat) and lived for another 3 years. My second cat had an unknown mass growing on his shoulder and it was removed through surgery. Both of my cats lived to the ripe age of 17 and when we had choices to make, given their ongoing health concerns associated with advanced age, multiple plans with an honest assessment of each plan was provided. Something I appreciate is that before any procedure, big or small (and we've done them all here!), you're given an incredibly detailed, itemized list of costs. It's always been transparent and fair. Our pup is pretty new to our family, and she already loves Dr. Kittel and the rest of the staff. Our family is so thankful for their incredible service and care. read more

We are fairly new clients at Kittel. The doctor was very nice and thorough with my dog but I really felt like they are pretty expensive. They suggested I vaccinate my dog early (he wasn't due for 2 months). Also I just picked up a RX for my dog that was ~$80...little did I know it was only a 14 day supply! All staff seemed very competent to the point of the receptionist knowing and able to explain medication and usage by product name. The Lead, vet looked Brandi over completely. Explained logically and exactly what symptoms she found and what they needed to be done to treat her in a logical way. There was NO extra service pushing. They wrote up a treatment plan for today and separate follow up options to think about, explained why and provided articles to read explaining everything if we choose to elect the options with no guilt trip or pushing. The testing and treatment we did have done was very specific to the conditions shown to us and the cost was more reasonable than other services and when the lab work indicated possible work did not need to be completed.... they actually followed the lab results and did not provide none required treatment or charge us for these extra services... We are so used to being pushed and pushed and pushed into expensive tests for everything and we "should do them if we care at all about our pet" and if we say no, they roll to the next set of test options "if we care about the animal" and was very pleased this was not the case here. Small, but significant point to add, Brandi's nails always seemed so long she had trouble running. The tech actually... correctly did the dogs toe nails and including rounding edges to almost show dog standards. For the first time in years of vet clipping... I waited a long time to write this review. However, I cannot let this go. I usually don't write reviews unless I'm just appalled or I absolutely love. It's kind of hard to write a review where you are so-so. However, this is one review where a business should have acted sooner/monitored their employees better. I can't give a super low rating because the "normal" staff is ok (though they don't do well in getting people in for emergencies). My dog has hypothyroidism. He wasn't diagnosed or even tested by this office because the Vet on staff at the time (apparently this vet was a temporary/substitute vet) chose to insult me when I told her that my dog was gaining weight for no reason. She said and I quote "there is a reason your dog is getting so fat, you are feeding him too much". I suggested to her to test him. She refused. She straight out told me that my dog was just fat and there is nothing wrong. Sadly, at the time, I believed her. It wasn't until the vet office couldn't get me in for an emergency because they had too many appointments, did I find another vet. When I went to the other vet (who could get me in for the emergency), he noticed my dog's "tragic" face (a symptom of hypothyroidism), his dry brittle nails (another symptom Kittel missed since my dog had to have a brittle/crushed nail removed there) and listened to me tell him about my dog's history of gaining weight. He suggested to me that he get tested for hypothyroidism and well, the rest is history. My dog suffered unnecessarily for months due to this one vet's horrible behavior. He's lost weight, is so much happier and his fur is shiny. I get that this vet was only temporary and she has since moved on to a different location but there should have been better monitoring of this one vet. She was working under the Kittel name and that is truly what is sad. This office caused my dog to suffer way more than necessary. read more

Dr. Kittel and the entire staff were patient, kind and very professional from the first time we even called the office. I felt that they actually cared about our animals and were very understanding that we didn't have an unlimited budget. They were very thorough with all procedures and medications that our pets needed and even explained the ones that weren't necessarily needed right at that time. Now I understand vet clinics are a business, but a lot of them seem like they are not so great at care but great at emptying the wallet (and more!). Kittel is not that way at all. They are very honest with what your pet needs and what can wait. They offer great suggestions for food and care as well. I also took a few minutes to check out the plaques on the wall and learned about some very cool things that the office has been involved with in the community. It was then I also learned that the office is a family office. Kudos for being able to work together SO well and really let your values shine through in your business. Elk Grove is lucky to have such a great veterinary clinic. We were so happy we found the perfect vet on the first try in our new home town. We definitely recommend them highly! read more

We brought our oldest cat Wendall in for an exam, shots and then he came back for a teeth cleaning. Everyone here is wonderful! Dr. Kittel, Sharlene and Nikki all were very helpful and checked back, sent a card, etc. We will be back in a few weeks for a follow-up with Wendall and will be bringing our other four cats in for exams and updates on shots. Unlike other vet experiences we have had, we did not feel pressured to spend money on things we did not need. Everything was explained with clarity and we did end up buying some dental care food and and additive for their water to try a few new things to keep our cats' mouths healthy. We were given a rebate form for the Purina Dental Care cat food which was great and our cats LOVE the food which is actually cheaper than the Science Diet we have our cats on now. All in all, this was a 5-star experience and I highly recommend bring your animals here even if you have to go a little out of your way (we live in East Sac). Wendall is actually chewing now, which he has not been able to do in long while so he is happy and we are happy! read more

We took our dog in to get neutered. Dr. Kittel and his staff assessed our dog's needs and examined him, before they took him back for his operation later that day. Dr. Kittel explained what would be done, and he answered all of our questions, and our dog is healing really well. It's 3 days later, and he's as playful as ever. We want to take our other pet in for an examination. This vet has definitely gained our trust. They have clean facilities, a professional staff, and the Dr. seems to have a passion for what he does. I was impressed with this veterinary clinic. Dr. Kittel came across as genuine and trustworthy and his staff were nice and professional. I brought my four year old newly adopted cat in for an exam and to have his eyes checked due to some watering. Dr Kittel and his staff handled my cat very well. He made treatment recommendations based on his assessment that lead me to believe he cared about my cat's health and not just about selling me some temporary meds that may not work. He really listened and asked good questions to asses my cat. Also, they professionally provided a detailed quote with their recommended vaccinations etc. and this allowed me to decide what I wanted or didn't need. Dr. Kittel understands the needs of even his smallest, most delicate patients (and their people!) and goes above and beyond to provide the level of care for my pets that I would hope to receive from my own physician. I found that pricing is extremely reasonable and invoices are detailed and itemized for full transparency. Staff explains procedures in detail so that I know what to expect, and I genuinely feel that my concerns are heard and addressed fully and that my pets' best interests are taken into consideration. We took our Siamese cat, shadow there for the first time today. The staff and Dr. Dan was great. The office was clean, friendly, and not chaotic. Our cat was very relaxed and trust me he hates going to the vet. Before coming to Dr. Kittle's office we had such bad experiences the last few years at Banfield that we needed to find a new vet. We are so glad we came to Kittle Veterinary for our spoiled cat. Normally he would lash out, be scared half to death and it resulted in very rough treatment and restraining by the banfield staff. Today he wandered around the Exam room, up and down off the table, purring, and exploring. He was not afraid of the staff or Dr. Dan. He received his exam, shot, and micro chip and was a nice gentleman the whole time. No restrains, no muzzles. The Dr. answered questions and took time with us. We were not rushed. He did not find things wrong with our cat like the last place did. which always meant more $$. He did not know his total health history or what the previous vet had to say...Dr. Kittle was honest and straight forward, and our cat is in good health. No undo charges.... THANK YOU SO MUCH Dr. Dan. We want Kittle Vet. to get our records from Banfield. We will be at Kittels from now on. They deserve more than a 5 star, I would give them 10 stars easy. I completed their owner and pet forms last week and received the automatic response that one of their devoted staff would get back to me, well I guess that person was on vacation. This week I downloaded their appointment app and requested an appointment for my dog. Same automatic response but no contact. I thought I might have made an error on line so I called them. The person answering the phone said she would ask her manager, manager was busy and said they would call back. No call back but later I received an email saying that they were not accepting new patients and if I wanted I could apply to be put on their waiting list and wait 4 to 6 weeks just to make an appointment. It must be nice to own the world and not need to show any compassion for people's needs and concerns. read more
