It was a United flight but it had to go to SFO first and then came to Medford ... I guess a 4 hour flight still beats driving and I'm meeting my crew up here in Oregon. They got the big rental Suburban and drove up from Sacramento to meet me here. I got a one way ticket since I'll be driving back with the my crew to California. This is a bigger airport than Redding and has real parking and rental car areas. There's food available, but I didn't need any as I'll grab some food with my crew. Meet up was easy using the cell phone method, basically just park and I'll call you when you can pick me up. This airport MFR worked out fine and I'll fly in or out of here again. Not a place you need to avoid like SFO!

And a stay at the Running Y Ranch in Klamath Falls was on my agenda. Thanks to careful Southwest Point Shuttle schedule planning, I was able to get to visit all these scenic places. I also took the Shuttle back to Medford Airport. They ran pretty much on time, had friendly drivers (Jennice was very nice) but beware: bathroom breaks are very quick & rushed for the most part so lay off the hooch or water until you get to where you're going. Now the Point runs several different routes in Oregon: a Cascade route; an Eastern route; a High Desert route; a Northwest (Portland) route and this Southwest route which I rode. Kudos to the state of Oregon for partially funding this enterprise to help people get around. In fact, the Oregon Department of Transportation in June 2014 made sure Klamath Falls residents could get down to Medford Airport once air passenger service from Klamath Falls ended. The Oregon DOT reminded Klamath Falls residents looking to fly out of Medford, that there is a stress-free way to get to the Medford Airport and back via South West POINT shuttle. In just a little under 2 hours, you can get come down the mountain to (and from) Klamath to the Medford Airport and back. The Shuttle also goes to the Klamath Falls Amtrak station where you can pick up the Pacific Starlight train. Once May tourist season arrives, the shuttle has a bus that runs up to Crater Lake and back. I would have loved to have done that. According to the POINT website, "this route's 22- and 24-passenger buses have free Wi-Fi, power outlets, air conditioning, space for your luggage and bicycle, and are wheelchair accessible." Tickets are sold online or by Amtrak and Greyhound. The website says the drivers do not sell tickets but they do. I recommend giving the POINT a try: I met many locals who ride it all the time. When I visit someplace scenic, I like to let someone else do the driving, so I can drink in the beauty and majesty that is all around me.

The shuttle got me to Medford with no issue and the driver was not only a great driver in the snow but also was quite the character. She made me laugh a number of times.

I think the thing that's the best about this event is that you could literally go with only 10 bucks in your pocket and a kiddo or two and spend the day having fun. Almost everything here is free: parking, entrance, kids jumphouses, paper plane demo, 2 different flight simulators, bubbles, sidewalk chalk! With only the $10 you could easily feed a small group a light lunch with drinks. There were 3 food trucks and a small bakery table on site feeding the masses. I was super glad to see buttercloud showed up with their uniques delicious biscuit menu. We opted for for the taco truck (forgot who was there, oops) and sultans delight. We got 4 al pastor quesadillas for $8... fresh made masa and the kids devoured them. From Sultans we grabbed a piece of baclava for $1.50 to go with our chicken kabob gyro and a classic gyro for $6/ea. Only complaint was for the taco truck who was quoting 15 min wait but was more like 25. It was worth the wait, and sultans delight was super quick and efficient to help offset the wait. Pro tip: spend the extra dough if you have it. @ $40/person, the experience a little helicopter flight over Emigrant lake and taking in the nearby scenery is worth every penny... especially if you have littles who will remember it for a lifetime. I mean, come on, it's only money and you can't take it with you... spent it on good times to leave the memories for the next generation. #thegoodlife
