We've found the perfect combo: after-school plus taekwondo. The convenience is unbeatable--homework gets done, energy gets burned, and we end up with happier (and definitely more tired) kids at the end of the day. Just to clarify: KM2A refers specifically to the after-school and pickup service. Reviews prior to 2026 mention KM2A's taekwondo program, which they no longer offer as of January 2026. Like others have noted, some drivers are better than others--but overall it solves our biggest challenge of juggling different pickup times, and the kids consistently get their homework done. Since we also love the taekwondo studio downstairs, this setup has basically become our favorite parenting life hack to simplify the week. read more

Good: This place offers indoor learning and martial arts toward the end of the day. Location is good and part of downtown Sunnyvale. Teachers help kids do their homework. Bad: a bit overcrowded may be because of many schools nearby and less options for parents. The management lady seems not that open when it comes to conversation and feedback; however, the martial arts environment is bad and seemed very harsh at least for my small child. Also, there have been instances where the driver (martial arts master) has shut the door on my kid's tiny hand while picking him up from school (no updates to parents after this incident), driven him without his seat belt on (based on my conversation with my kid). This is a very irresponsible behavior when it comes to children. Eventually it came down to pulling the kid outside this place. What a regretful experience. read more

Our family moved to Sunnyvale last year and found the KM2A afterschool and taekwondo program. My daughter is happy to be attending and looks forward to the taekwondo lessons everyday. As a professional in the field of education, I've observed how adults in KM2A work with the children under their care. Mrs. Kim knows the families, greets everyone warmly with a smile and offers fun treats for kids if they want it! The afterschool teachers check the children's homeworks and provides additional worksheets - I love how my daughter is challenged to work on advanced lessons from time to time. For summer camp, KM2A provides a balance of fun and academic experiences. They have reading, writing and math in the morning, lunches in the park, fieldtrips twice a week, and taekwondo sessions in the afternoon. Aside from taekwondo itself, my daughter has learned about respect, strength, responsibility, discipline and not to mention an amazing sense of humor from Master Kim. My son has been going to KM2A since the summer of 2019. He was one of the first student to go back to KM2A right after they reopened during the pandemic because he really missed Taekwondo. He tells me how much he loves the Taekwondo classes and how funny and friendly (and strict when he needs to be) Master Kim is. The studio is located on the first floor and it is easy for parents to see what they are doing. I always see a good balance of fun, discipline, and learning. In terms of the after-school care, my son tells me that teachers are very friendly and enjoys his time there. They help out with kids' homework if/when they have them. They also provide worksheets if there is no homework to do. Mrs Kim is in charge of the facility. Here's what's amazing about her. She sees you walking from the parking lot and prepares your children to go home. It's pretty clear that she knows every parent and cares about the students. KM2A also offers pickup from various schools in Sunnyvale which makes it very convenient. As long as my son has been there, we never had a single issue with this service. My younger son will be in Kindergarten this fall and he will also be joining his older brother at KM2A. I highly recommend it. read more

I was sexually assaulted by one of the older kids there many times. I was a previous student who attended 2017-2020. The changing rooms are small for the girls where for boys they just change in a class room that has a window that if you were tall enough you could see them changing. They humiliated me many times because I couldn't do a kick properly. Another time I had a diary and a teacher opened it and read it to every one in the room. I was then yelled at because I wrote that I hadn't liked someone inside of my diary. Shame on this place. You guys need to get your staff under control. read more

My son currently attends KM2A for their after school program and I have been very happy with the program. We have had some "not so great" experiences at other after care facilities and he loves coming here every day. We also participate in the Tae-kwon do program and he is doing very well. Our children have been attending KM2A since August of 2013, both the afterschool program and summer camp. We chose KM2A for the following reasons: 1. Outstanding Tae Kwon Do instruction. 2. Solid academic tutoring. 3. They pick up or children from school. In a little over the four years that our children have been attending KM2A our oldest son, who is now 10 years old, has achieved his first degree black belt. He is now well on his way to achieving his second degree black belt. Our youngest, who is 8 years old, just achieved his red stripe belt, and he is well on his way to achieving his next goal of earning a junior black belt. We directly attribute this to the outstanding instruction of Grand Master Kim and Junior Master Kim, along with their other black belt instructors. Their instruction method is strict and disciplined. As a result, both of our children's confidence, self-esteem, discipline and respect for others has never been better. We directly attribute this to Grand Master Kim and Junior Master Kim. They make sure our children earn their belts. As parents we could not be more proud of them and our children feel a very strong sense of accomplishment. Both our children are doing well in school. KM2A is significant part of their scholastic success. They make sure that both children's homework is completed correctly each day and provide solid academic support when needed. This is also why we chose KM2A's summer camp program. As they provide next grade appropriate curriculum to prepare them for the upcoming school year. This prevents the dreaded "summer brain drain". When we first enrolled our children in KM2A we lived Sunnyvale and our children attended the KM2A Sunnyvale location. This was very convenient because KM2A was close to our home and our children's school. In 2016 we moved to Campbell. We were concerned that our children would no longer be able to attend KM2A because of the distance from both their Sunnyvale and Santa Clara locations. However, the Kim's were gracious and willing to continue to pick up our children after school so that they can continue to attend KM2A. We are very appreciative of the Kim's for extending themselves for the benefit our children. At the end of each school year we have always given our children an option to change their after school program and summer camp. They have always requested to stay with KM2A. Both of our sons are now attending the Saturday black belt trainings at the Santa Clara KM2A location. From this training, they are learning how to teach other children. Our oldest son is now helping to instruct the lower belt students in the after school program. Discipline, confidence, self-esteem, self-respect and respect for others have proven an integral and dynamic part of our children's lives. We could not be more pleased with their progress since attending KM2A. I don't know why this place has so much negative reviews! First of all, Mr and Mrs Kim have an awesome establishment on their hands especially for full time worker single mothers like me who need the additional after school program. The great thing about their program is that they offer martial arts on TOP of an after school program. They also have convenient pick ups and drop offs! They pick Julian up from San Miguel and they take him straight to the program where him and his classmates do homework and finish their lunch and then at about 3ish they begin their tae kwon doe class that my son ABSOLUTELY loves! He wishes he can do tae kwon doe everyday! They empathize that their martial arts class will help with the kids to learn respect and discipline and I am all for ensuring my kids learn respect and is discipline. I've watched them teach the class and I honestly love how they teach. Sometimes you need to give tough love in order for your kids to grow up with common sense and to be independent and of course with my son telling me he loves it and shows me all the moves he learned already tells me that this place is great. I highly recommend this program. It's so convenient, it's very reasonable in pricing, the owner is super sweet, the front Desk lady is so so kind and super funny and helpful and I just have overall great things to say about this place. KM2A has been a life saver for us. Our child started in Oct of last year just going to class. It went really well and he loved it. He was having difficulty at his aftercare program. He needed more structure and they let them do as they pleased. He always ended up in trouble or crying and telling us he didn't want to go anymore. He started having issues in class too. As parents this is stressful when you work full time. It broke my heart. There was a final straw and we switched him to KM2A for aftercare. Fast forward forward to today. He did summer camp there. Made so many friends, has such respect for others, has excelled in school. Loves going to aftercare and class. Loves his teachers. It's amazing. We love KM2A and believe 100% this was the best thing for him. They have taught him so much about how to manage himself it's amazing. The cost was so reasonable too. Especially where we live. It was only $50 more a month then what we were paying for the onsite school daycare. That included pick-up, after care and class. You get a discount with class if you do aftercare. This review is solely on the shuttle vans and their drivers, and the so-called manger(s) or owner(s) over the phone. I have not attended nor have had a child attend the school or the after school program. We live in the neighborhood that is located on the street behind this business, and their van drivers (that are transporting children in them) consistently speed down our 25 mph street to use it as a short cut versus taking Sunnyvale Ave. We have complained several times about the high speeds their vans are driving at, and they really don't seem to care, making excuses that they don't know which driver it was although we have given them exact times (literally within a few minutes of leaving their facility) and that they need the number on the back - how am I suppose to see the number when they are driving by at a ridiculously high speed! I used to train in this studio under Master Kim for close to 5 years, in the adults classes. I learnt a lot from discipline to self respect and had a very healthy 5 years. A bicycle mishap a year back has taken me out of the training, but anybody who wants to train in TKD, this is THE place outside of Korea I would say. I will never take my child here again!! Master kim is the worst! He embarrassed my son and yelled at him at the top of his lungs in front of everyone (even the parents were watching) just because he didn't put his belt on before class he also pushed his face because he didnt do a move right. My son would cry historically every time I would take him to class and I never knew why but it was because he was scared to tell me what happened and cause he was scared of master kim. Ive seen how he has treated the other students and making them cry and its horrible I dont understand why the parents continue to take their kids. We did not have a good experience. My 13 year old daughter was humiliated by Mr. Kim. His unwanted physical touching was addressed at a meeting and he agreed to apologize to her. Instead he called her a lier in front of the class after he already admitted to putting his hands on her at our meeting. Their billing is hand scratched notes on a sticky pad without explanation. Very expensive and no recourse if you don't like what they provide. Not set up for older children and touching my daughter without her permission is a definite no-no. [12/18/2009] I enrolled my daughter in Master Kim's Tae Kwon Do program when she was 7 years old. She has been with the program for close to 3 years now and has earned a brown striped belt and is testing for her Red Belt (close to a Black belt). I have seen a growth in my daughter's self confidence, attention and focus, and self discipline that I believe she would not have received from regular schooling alone. I take my daughter to classes three times a week after work. There are many children in the different classes that she has made friends with at the Academy. Master Kim has worked well with my daughter over the past three years. I believe he has allot of experience with teaching children of all ages (from 4 to 18). The Academy also offers evening Adult classes. I am not as familiar with them. [7/12/2014] My daughter received her 1st degree Black Belt the at the beginning of this year from KM2A and it was a good experience. KM2A moved their primary business to Santa Clara and there were few Black Belts left at the Sunnyvale Center. My Daughter asked to change to Sunnyvale Martial Arts. She has been going there for the last few months and they have a good Black Belt program for kids her age (14 years old). Also they have a large number of girls her age that are black belts and she feels she fits in and is learning a lot of new techniques. read more

I recommend this place to people who want to know what Korean martial arts (Tae Kwon Do) really is. Many of the martial arts studios became so much like the places for cardio exercise, and this is the only place I have found in the bay area that teaches the real martial arts. I have practiced Tak Kwon Do when I was in Korea to get the first degree black belt, and I found that master Kim teaches even more thoroughly than my previous masters in Korea. read more

We have two children that have been attending KM2A Marital Arts & After School program for over two years now. We have been extremely happy with the progress our children have made in their Martial Arts. The after school homework program is much more than we could have asked for. I couldn't say enough good things about KM2A and the programs they offer. My son has been attending for 4 years now and has shown tremendous growth. He never really fit in to most private after-school programs, but the methods used at KM2A worked. Maybe it's not for everyone as I see some of these reviews, but if you have a child that could use more discipline in his life, other than the parent, and a stronger focus on academics, KM2A is the right place. My name is Karlin Weisinger and I attended this "school" for a year and a half, that time ending in October of 2013. I am currently 13 years old, and i do not recommend sending your child to either of these martial arts studios; sunnyvale or santa clara. Although this studio did teach me a lot, and I did make friends, there were days that I would come home crying with bruises from "grand master" kim that would last for over a week,from movements unrelated to what we were being taught and not for disciplinary reasons. The after school program is not great either. Overall, I am really happy with my experience at KM2A. My two boys have a safe and fun place to go after school, all while learning the discipline and techniques of Tae Kwon Do. I can see the improved physically and mentally in them ever since attending KM2A at the end of August 2010. The couple who run the establishment, Master Kim and Mrs. Kim, are very understanding and flexible. I have changed my boys' schedule a couple of times with no issue. Also, there's an after-school program, where the teacher makes sure that each child's homework is complete. That has been really helpful when my schedule was too hectic, and I had to extend the time that my sons were at KM2A. My daughters have been going to KM2A for 3 years since they were 5 and 7 and have really enjoyed their experience. Master Kim is very dedicated and passionate about imbuing in his students very good technique, discipline and reverence to this martial art form. As a teacher and a mother, I am always looking for well rounded programs that will be fun for my children while instilling confidence, respect and hard work. I have never written a review for yelp but this program is so fantastic that I knew that today I owed it to Master Kim and Mrs. Kim for all of the hard work they have done with my sons. KM2A not only transports my sons from school to the program so I don't have to interrupt my work day, but they also provide excellent homework help and a wonderful taekwondo program. Everyone at KM2A works hard to instill great qualities in their students while providing a program that is exciting to all of the participants involved. I was very impressed to go on testing day and find that Master Kim not only works with the students to help them advance physically and mentally to the next belt but more importantly he teaches them to become great citizens. It was beautiful to see children apologize to their parents for not listening at home or to watch Master Kim instill confidence in the children who may not believe in themselves. KM2A is very structured program with high expectations but the whole staff shows love for each child that is similar to the love of a parent. My sons have improved their attitude, confidence and behavior in the short time they have attended. I feel lucky that I have found a wonderful place to send my children while I work. Although work does not allow me to be with my children after school, everyone at KM2A treats my children as well as I would if I could be there.
