Lion & Ram Studios- Hamilton Ohio. - Addison studio

Lion & Ram Studios- Hamilton Ohio.

This is the Hamilton studio - recently added to Lion & Ram's offerings. Much like the rest of Lion…read more& Ram's stuff, it's a beautifully designed studio that has been made out of an older building. In this case, it was clearly a residential building before Lion & Ram got ahold of it. I rented the Carley studio. NOTES: -The Hayli studio is downstairs. The Carley and Addison studios are upstairs up one flight of (semi-steep, narrow, old-house stairs). The stairs seem sturdy and have a very sturdy banister. -You may/may not run into another human. Your studio will be private to you during your rental, but the common areas may have other humans. -There are two restrooms (both equipped with shower; unsure if you're allowed to use the shower). One restroom is upstairs in the common areas and the other restroom is downstairs in the common area. -There's a gigantic parking lot right behind the building. You have to take an alleyway on a different side of the block, but it looks like the parking for this area (which includes a lot of residential) stuck a parking lot for all of the residents on the interior of all of the homes on the block. I recommend following Google's instructions and driving around the internal parking lot it took you to until you see a sign for Lion & Ram on a brown fence. It's at one of the corners of the parking lot. PROS: -All-three of the studios in-building have a dedicated hair and make-up room - complete with mirrors. The rooms are also brightly painted and gorgeous - and can (easily and very happily!) double as shooting rooms when you're done. I actually spent more time shooting in Carley's dressing room than I did in the main rooms! (I did not check to see if there was a door for privacy between the main shooting rooms and the dressing room, but with a private bathroom down the hall from any of the studio rentals, it's possible to have someone change there.) -In the middle of one of the hotter days this summer, the Carley's AC was on and it was a comfortable temperature. I was SO thankful for that. -Lots of shoot-thru objects if you get creative. The chandelier in one of the shooting rooms works great - or there's some greenery to shoot-thru in the dressing room that hangs off the ceiling. -I could die for this brightly painted, purple dressing room. It translates so beautifully in pictures with natural light only. Partnered with the greenery in there, it's clearly the shining star of the entire studio. -All of the furniture seemed very sturdy. No plasterboard furniture that won't hold weight. Some of the furniture seems a bit on the older side, but none of it seemed concerning, and the roomy couch and oversized leather chairs will work great for larger-frame clients too. -It's definitely a smaller studio - nowhere near as small as their Reese Studio (which is, quite literally) just a storefront. You can easily shoot up to groups of 3 in here, but I'd start to look into other studios for groups larger than that, or you might get some distortion. It never felt *too small* though for couple's work. -Everything is immaculate. Like always. There are small props (like a sprig of greenery slipped into a faux skull or steampunk glasses on top of an open, old book) that really make the attention-to-details here stand out. CONS: -Honestly, I have pretty much none. This studio, like Lion & Ram's other offerings, is flippin' gorgeous, as always. Everything is intricately put together, works great with natural light, and the "set-ups" that are there to make great photos always are cohesive and good-looking. Lion & Ram has a serious talent for that - which is why I keep driving an hour just to rent out their studios. -My *only* note would probably be that you'll want to bring a secondary hair/make-up chair for larger clients if using this for client work. The director's chair that's in the room is adorable, but it's not plus-friendly.

Can she just follow me around and take pics of me everyday? The girl works magic. I originally sought out Crystal because she is a founding member and photography editor for the Fair Event Vendors Alliance, which connects the LGBTQ community with Louisville and Southern Indiana area wedding and event professionals and champions their equality and fair treatment. While I'm not LGBTQ, this is still very important to me. I'm so happy this is important to Crystal too. A friend of mine also recommended her and said that she is sensitive to making sure photos are all natural and flattering. Sounds like I would be in good hands. We met in person to talk about the wedding shortly after I reached out, and I felt comfortable with her almost immediately. She was also easily reachable and quick to respond when I had questions. And then the big day came. Crystal first met us at the salon and was with us for 10 hours that day. I felt like she always had control of the situation -- especially when posing us all for photos -- but she also did not take over the entire scene, as I have seen other photographers do at weddings. She was working hard the entire time and always professional. And like my friend said, she took photos that were very flattering. I told her my arms are not my fave feature, and she helped me pose and stand so they were minimized. Other faves about working with Crystal: * Her prices were very reasonable, which I can confirm after talking to friends and seeing what they spent on pics. * She delivered the photos about two months after the wedding, which seems to be standard. And we got ALL of the pics. Plus we get to download them and use them as we see fit (giving her credit on social media, of course). * And just to reiterate, we had her for 10 hours at three different locations. And her pics! Again, they turned out so well. Both the posed and action shots were beautiful. Looking through them, I feel like she got all the important parts of the wedding -- and then some. I missed seeing some of my friends' moves on the dance floor. Now they are committed to history, thanks to Crystal. The venue also looked stunning in her photos. After stressing so much about the decorations, I admit I didn't get to take it in as much as I would have liked on the actual day. Now I get to see and truly appreciate how beautiful it was. I very much hope I get another chance to work with Crystal. Her pics will line our walls and social media feeds for the rest of my and my husband's lives.

She sat near my fiancé and I at dinner and happily shared suggestions on spots she loves for wedding pictures within the venue I'm marrying at in my own upcoming wedding. Highly recommend.
