Love chocolate cake? Can't/won't make it yourself? Get yourself down to Knotts and buy one there and you'll be in choccie cake heaven. The cake these guys sell really is soo good. Mind you, it's not cheap (almost £4 for a 'loaf' type cake) so it would need to be good, and it is. There's a lot more on offer too - a massive range of food to go like stew, soup and prawn and chicken salads in the fridge and buns, tray bakes and scones etc over at the bakery counter. Again prices are higher than average - last time I had a scone to go, unbuttered, at 85p which is on the steep side for a bakery, but wowser it was white chocolate and raspberry and I think it was worth it. If you've got more time on your hands, the back section of the shop is a sit down cafe/restaurant which does more of the same home made type food. Again, a little bit pricey but top notch quality, with real ingredients and real food. Try the chilli chicken pannini. Yum. read more

Hmmm, I have to be honest but am not a raving fan off Knotts - although this bakery/coffee shop comes highly recommended by many of my friends I just haven't felt the staff at all friendly any time I've been in. I get more of a "Doctors Receptionist" vibe - quite sharp & cold. However the food is genuinely deeeelicious, pricey indeed but very appetising. Well worth a try - just hope the staff are a little less stand offish next time! read more

Near my workplace so I'm a frequent customer - LOVE IT. the cake is delicious and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly.

First time in this shop and unfortunately it will be the last. My elderly mother had a small slice of mince pie plonked on a plate - no garnish, nothing! and was charged the extortionate price of 4.95! Don't understand where they get their prices from. read more

Shop looks impressive. Food is good but expensive compared to other places I have been. Staff were not very polite and more concerned about having a chat to each rather than customer service.if this was fixed it would be great. read more

In a prime location, this has to be the town's most innovative bakery- selling a variety of breads including Guinness wheaten and Mediterranean loaves. There is also a wide range of (rather unusual) scones to buy, with everything from your ordinary fruit scone, to flavours such as Cadbury's crunchie and raspberry ripple. I am personally a big fan of the Snickers- flavoured scone, as the chocolate and caramel just melt in your mouth. Shaw's also makes a real effort to follow baking trends, creating an array of delicious delights such as cupcakes and whoopee pies. The bakery also provides a daily supply of 'Paddy's pizzas' (a famous Northern Irish snack consisting of soda bread with a pizza topping) along with sausage rolls and other pastries. At lunchtime, Shaw's sells an assortment of sandwiches and you can also buy a meal deal (consisting of a sandwich, cookie and drink) for less than £3.

This a lovely little bakery located on north street in the centre of Newtownards.There is something about local, good quality baked goods that the mass producing bakeries of this world just can't emulate, like the wonderful freshly baked smell that fills your nostrils on the entry to the bakery. They do a wide range of cakes, cream buns and tray bakes, with particular kudos from me going out to their pineapple creams which are annoyingly addictive( annoying in the respect that repeatedly buying them inflates my waistline and deflates my wallet!), but everything is good in here!
