I went to The Knotty Pine this week with some family and friends. I was a little hesitant with going as my last experience here from several years ago was not very good. I decided it was time to give them another chance and I was sadly a bit disappointed. Everyone at my table ordered a different meal and most everyone enjoyed their meal, in fact a couple people at my table felt that their meals were excellent. That's why I'm still giving three stars. However, my husband ordered chicken tenders and when he bit into one the center of the tender was completely raw. Totally unsafe and disgusting. We told our waitress and she immediately apologized and got him a new order of thoroughly cooked tenders. She also took the tenders off the bill and discounted the bill 10% which was really cool of her. I ordered the ham dinner and the ham steak tasted like plastic. It was odd but I didn't say anything about this. I was impressed with the way the waitress handled the chicken tender situation but prior to that she was miserable toward us. I don't know if she was having a tough day but she really wasn't pleasant or friendly when taking our orders. Overall I wasn't overly impressed and I'm giving this place three stars. read more

We were looking to grab an early dinner while traveling. There were only a couple other people in there when we got there. The interior has kind of an old-school look to it. It gave me the feeling of a place that my grandmother would have loved to gone The staff was very friendly and the food was good. We would go there again if in the area but I'm not sure we would make a special trip to go there. read more

Standard diner fair with an outdoor barbecue pit (Thurs through Sun) in the summer. Been there a number of times because it is so close. Ribs were tender, chicken is crisp, and the burgers were juicy. The pancakes and french toast left a bit to be desired. read more

Horrible.... I called and ordered breakfast to be picked up. 15mins the women said. Wow I thought that is fast.. I arrived 20mins... waited another 20mins for my food. 40mins for sausage and gravy with sunny side eggs.. scramble with toast steak and greens also pancakes Get home; my order is wrong, my food is cold and nasty. I called and complained the women tried telling me that I had ordered extra toast with the pancakes. When she hadn't asked me what toast I wanted to start with. I got sun side eggs instead of scramble. Greens sitting in vinegar.. gross... the women kept trying to blame me for the order not being correct.. so upset. Never again.. read more

Like having a home cooked and not having to do the work . This my default place to eat . Easy to get to . Love the interior ,knotty pine and wild life pictures .The people are great . Always try to get the fish dinner on Friday or Saturday . read more

Been here several times inside, have not tried the outside BBQ. Dinners and lunch have always been tasty and filling. Prices are good. Could use a larger size glass for drinks. No Bar. read more

The husband and I stopped at the BBQ 8/18/2012 and I ordered the "Hoffman Hotdog dinner" First off I have contacted Hoffman's as well because the hotdogs they gave us NOT Hoffmans they tasted like they had a pound of salt in them we couldnt even eat them when we said something the answer was we only serve Hoffman's well the ONLY kind of hotdog we eat is hoffman and I can tell you that was NOT a hoffman's then after eating one bite of that hotdog and maybe three bites of salad we left I didnt even make it back to Canastota and I was pulled over getting sick!! Spent the next day sick too! I was not happy with that dump and I have put in complaints with hoffman's the knotty pines itself and I am looking into any other places! STAY CLEAR OF THIS DUMP!! read more

I live in Westchester County, NY, but visit relatives in the Canastota area, and we got to eat at The Knotty Pine Diner twice over the past year, for dinner. What a treat! It's a comfortable, casual, family-friendly diner. The staff are very efficient and friendly. The food consists of your basic American and Italian foods. The food is super flavorful and the portions are very, very large. You won't leave hungry, that's for sure! The first time I went, I had a rigatoni special topped with big cubes of chicken. Soooo delicious, and I couldn't believe how melt-in-your-mouth moist the chicken was. The second time, I had the Italian Feast, and got to enjoy large portions of lasagna, eggplant parm and chicken parm, with a huge plate of spaghetti on the side. I couldn't believe how much delicious food there was, and it was fun to share it with my tablemates. It's not fancy, but the food and service are excellent. Excellent value, too. read more

Was there on Saturday the 25th for lunch. Food was very good but our waitress was horrible. Very unfriendly and never saw her again after she dropped our food off. No "how's everything?", No "refills?", and the kicker, she couldn't even bring the check! We finally had to get up and get the check at the counter. It was too bad because the girl that was serving tables right near us was very good and friendly to her customers. Been there a few times and it has been hit and miss with service but this sealed it. My first dining experience at The Knotty Pine was for lunch and I was very impressed with the quality, freshness and taste of the food. Although I took issue with wait staff that were not knowledgeable about the food and inattentive to housekeeping, I was so impressed with the food I gave Five Stars and had very high expectations for my next visit for dinner. However, my expectations were not met. Firstly, the wait staff told me the pasta was homemade, but it certainly was NOT (I have been making pasta for 25 years and know the difference). I also noticed only ONE person working the kitchen and that only means one thing for a busy restaurant...cut corners. Although my meal was not horrible, it was bland and the haddock appeared to have been previously frozen (couldn't ask the waitress as she had already proven to be unreliable). The pasta sauce was rather tasteless and bland. The mozzarella sticks were pre-prepared, frozen garbage (it takes 10 seconds to prepare fresh Moz Sticks, so using frozen junk makes no sense). In the front of the restaurant was a sign that said "Looking For Cooks", so maybe they are short on staff at the moment. I have to believe the chef who served me for lunch is gone, because the magic has left the kitchen. read more
