My business interactions with The Carpet Place was not optimal. I was shopping for flooring and…read morenosings for my stairs. The nosings were backordered and the communication with Patrick Miner was terrible, He would not return calls and when we did reach him either I or my contractor got different responses. When the flooring was delivered I was charged for two pails of glue but only received one.. We would have to drive to the store to get an update because he didn't returm calls. I finally requested a refund for the nosings and went to Bickell who was able to obtain the materials in less than 48 hours.

Steer clear of this guy, Patrick, and his flooring company, Poltek (in Stratford, Ont). The words…read more"incompetent" and "unprofessional" fit him well. What a disaster he was for us. We hired him in early November, 2017, to install engineered hardwood in a room in our house. We met with him to review the job. He expressed great confidence in his abilities ("I do this kind of work all the time"); we set a date for the work to be done; and we contacted him, six days before he was scheduled to start, to confirm that everything was a go. In the lead-up, we made significant changes to our work and personal schedules in order to accommodate him. (In fact, I cancelled several work shifts in order to be out of the house -- the installation involved our kitchen.) We did not hear from Patrick until less than one business day before he was to start working on our floor. He sent us an email. In it, he announced that he decided not to do the job because he did not like working with engineered hardwood. It frustrated him. It inconvenienced him. That's how he explained it. He was not at all concerned about the time and money he cost us. If you need flooring work done, avoid Poltek. Patrick doesn't even warrant one star.

We hired M & J Contracting (Mike Roy) in February 2023 for a renovation project and paid a deposit…read moreof $9,381.47. The work never began. After repeated attempts to get updates or resolution, communication became inconsistent and at times confrontational. No work was completed under the contract. Following significant effort on our part, including involving authorities, we received only partial repayment of the deposit over time. As of now, $500 remains outstanding. I'm sharing this experience so others can make an informed decision. Based on what we went through, I would strongly recommend exercising caution before entering into any agreement or providing a deposit to this contractor.

After…read morelooking around at all the Big Box stores and realizing most of the hardwood available was from Asia and not Made in Canada... my wife and I made a stop at HF to speak with the owner Larry Haggarty and have him give us a tutorial on every species of hardwood, and they have it all. After selecting 3/4 inch solid white oak which was harvested and milled in Canada, we had his longest serving employee Frank come in to install all 3 rooms including step entrances, framing out cabinetry, closet and fireplace hearth. Not many craftsman and great small business owners left in this day and age, but Huron Flooring is the exception. Pricing $$$ was competitive to everywhere else we looked and the install was "Perfect" ...... if your thinking of hardwood flooring than make your first look at their store.
