After a long day walking around Paris, my wife and I are craving for Asian food. This place is right at Champs Elysees area. The food tastes good. But the beef is a little chewy. The green curry taste good as well, but I hope they told us that it is very spicy. But it's ok coz we can still eat it. The service is average. Okay, so I hope this doesn't sound racist but in the second week of our European vacation, my family missed Asian food. White rice in particular. Not risotto. Not some wild grain stuffed into a Cornish game hen. Plain sticky white rice. So as the hunger bug hit us on our stroll through Champs-Élyssés we decided enough was enough! Not that there were a lot of Asian places to choose from but so long as it didn't say Panda Express we were in! Kok Ping. Not an inspiring name and maybe you say it with a bit of a smirk but hey, no Panda. Billing themselves as Chinese and Thai this was just a side street off the boulevard closer to the Arc De Triomphe. From the outside it doesn't look like much but then you step down into a nicely decorated venue. Dark wood. White linen. Service was more friendly and fairly attentive. At the end of the meal they even gave you hot towels to refresh yourselves. 5* The food, while different from Chinese in the States, was good. I think a lot of it had to do with different quality of ingredients as well as cultural influences of France. Or maybe no MSG.... Fried Tofu: 4* Not like the Salted Pepper kind but breaded. We LOVE tofu in the family and missed it almost as much as rice. Onion Beef:3.5* reminiscent of Mongolian beef but way too much onion Crispy Chicken: 4.5* puts a smile on your face Chicken Egg Fried Rice: 2* notice how I wrote that title. Not "Chicken Fried Rice." That is what we thought we were getting. It is literally fried rice with egg that comes from a chicken. Lost in translation I guess. A little pissed on that one but also my fault. House noodles: 4* came topped with real crab meat. Noodles were good but again different. Would still order again. Okay that's it. If you need a break from baguettes, escargot, and foi gras (not that I had any) Kok Ping is a pretty good alternative. read more

Came to Paris the first time and happened to eat here since it was a few steps from our hotel. Food was superb and super tasty. They served both Thai and Chinese. Service was great. They get pretty busy here. Second time back to Paris this time with our kids we took them here. They agreed that it was one of the best and tastiest restaurant they had out of all the restaurants we tried during the 8 days we stayed in Paris. Highly recommended. Man, oh man. Chinese food in France...at a distance, This may sound like a contradiction. Maybe even a downright bad idea. But let your mouth be pleasantly surprised by this next level Chinese food. I love how familiar the menu is. It doesn't stray too far from what you can expect to see on a Chinese menu in the states The menu is also in french as well as english, so any only-english-speaking ones will still know what they are getting. The ambiance In the establishment is impressive. It feels cosy, without feeling crowded. It also feels approaching-reservation-only status. The service was fantastic as well. We were helped by 2 servers and they really did do there best to be helpful. We asked one to take a photo and he made sure we didn't make the crucial mistake of taking it before the food was on the plate. Overall, they were helpful, without being annoying. Which is always a plus for me. The food itself was stellar. I got the coconut curry chicken and it had a good fresh taste. But the real winner were the spring rolls. 2 chicken and 2 shrimp rolls hit the plate, and honestly, it was hard to pick which to devour first. The chicken looked like rock candy. It has such a crisp outer shell it's hard to describe. The shrimp was more "traditional" looking. But don't let that fool you. Both were the best spring rolls I've had to date. Not even close. I follow a plant-based diet, and finding dishes without meat or cheese can be challenging in a city known for its rich food. I came across Kok Ping while walking along the Champs Elysee. Very good location located just a few meters off the main Champs Elysee. The restaurant is lovely with nice atmosphere. Servers looked elegant, polite and professional. However, because this is right in the heart of the touristy area, everything's great except the food which was eatable, took a long time to serve (we are party of 7). Restaurant Kok Ping serves a combination of Chinese and Thai cuisine in an elegant setting. We had a leisurely lunch here in a group, and ate family style. I don't know much about the state of Chinese food in France, but the food here was good but not spectacular. With such a nice upscale decor, I was expecting a little more from the food (especially for the price). We got a variety of dishes: beef, chicken, pork, soup, tofu and fried rice. For our hungry group, they were good and got devoured. But the food felt more like the kind you'd get at a regular sit-down Westernized Chinese restaurant anywhere - nothing too exciting. Good service - our waiters were polite and helpful (and could speak English), and they even had the hot washcloth to clean your hands and face after the meal. My family and I had the WORST experience at Kok Ping this evening. My brother has a severe, SEVERE nut allergy. We, always conscious of Asian places with nuts in use, asked several times if we would be okay. We gave several warnings regarding nuts and specifically peanuts, which are the worst of all. We were assured it was fine and without peanuts. And given the restaurant is finer dining, higher end, and in a metropolitan touristy-area, we felt safe. We were wrong. When the dishes were served, we were ONCE AGAIN told they were without peanuts. Yet within seconds of eating a Spicy Tofu Hot plate, my brother's reaction began. His lips started swelling, and he began having trouble breathing. We were then told that the satay often has peanuts, in a confused, unsure manner. My brother took benadryl, knowing it was just barely enough to hold him over temporarily. We were offered a taxi or a guide to the pharmacy, by the apparent manager or owner. Perhaps the most offensive of all, is that they brought us the bill. As we were trying to rush out of there, our meal cut short, incomplete, and at the commencement of what is usually a life-threatening anaphylactic, reaction, we had to wait, and pay the bill (minus the uneaten tofu, which they acted like was a huge favor to us), like we still owed them for a wonderful time. The number one fundamental rule to the restaurant business is customer service. Dealing with food restrictions is perhaps the most significant part of the job. (Especially in fine dining.) It is not an "Oops, sorry!" type of reaction. It is a matter of life and death, and in many instances (especially in the United States), can shut a restaurant down. We are off to seek medical attention but more than anything, we feel ashamed, offended, and embarrassed that (despite their sorry) we sat and paid the bill, while my brother was fighting an oncoming paralysis. read more

After a long day of tourist activities and walking in the rain, we decided to order delivery from this place. First thing you need to know is that the main dishes are al la carte. Meaning if you order chicken curry, you need to order rice too (what??!). Second thing you need to plan for is figuring out your own utensils. My assumption is that they treat every order like it's going to a home but I was a bit disappointed that they didn't assume I needed utensils when the delivery address had a hotel name in it. After being so excited for food and eating a few pieces with my hands like a caveman, I went downstairs and got proper utensils. On to the food, some was ok, some was ehhh. The green curry was ok - although I had no rice to actually enjoy the curry. So let me rephrase, the chicken in the green curry was ok. My husband got crispy chicken, which was also al la carte and it was decent. It could've used a little more sauce but overall it was good and likely the best thing we ordered. He also ordered some noodles with chicken & crab. The noodles were small Singaporean noodles which are our favorite but they were burnt. I could smell it before he could taste it. Enough said. Needless to say, our order fed us enough not to go somewhere else but left us disappointed enough that we won't be ordering from here in the future. read more
