I have been coming here since they opened their doors and would visit them after my Mission Renaissance art classes upstairs. Our family has been loving their quality of food all these years and I am always pleasantly surprised on how quickly they are able to prepare our meal orders from the moment we order it--they must have some kitchen prep flow solidly down. Ambiance is very standard and low-key, I do like that even in the limited space, there are still many seating options if you do wish to dine there. Our go to is the Chicken Shawarma Plate--pretty hefty quantity w/ a good variety of ingredients. I usually end up eating it as 2 of my meals which ends up being an even better value. I have only been to this Mediterranean Cafe once during my lunch break with my friend from work... this was pre COVID-19. I know... this review is long over due LOL. I got the Chicken Kebab Plate which comes with rice pilaf, small salad, and pita bread. Chicken kebab was very moist + tender and the portions were good... you get two sticks worth of chicken chucks. Rice pilaf was soft and fluffy, salad is salad, and pita bread was tasty... I wished I ordered a extra side of pita. Looking forward to trying their other food items. The staff was friendly. Service was quick... got our food timely. Prices were pretty reasonable IMHO. They have inside and outside dining areas. I usually prefer outside dining if available. I ordered a lamb gyro and did not disappoint as it was packed with lamb. The pita bread was alo's very fresh and warm. There garlic sauce and spicy sauce were especially very tasteful adding a unami flavor. I would consider this the beta gyro i've had but it was good. The problem I had was the service. A big old greek guy was the cashier and I only had a $20. Amy total came out to be $14 and some change. I told the guy I will be back because I have some change in my car and he said don't worry. Took my $20 and have me change when I didn't want it. The guy was very rude when I also wanted more sauce for my gyro. Best in the business.... Don't go late. They will be out of felafel. If you go 40 mins before closing, all orders are "to go." Both of those rather suck. Love coming here whenever I'm craving some Mediterranean food. This place is small with limited indoor and outdoor seating but I've never had a problem finding a table before. There's also usually a line to order but it moves quickly. Most of the time your food is packed and ready to go before you're even finished paying--that's how fast and efficient this place is! Some of my favorite things to order here are the chicken kebab plate, beef kebab plate, and the stuffed grape leaves. Everything I've tried has been delicious and the portions are very generous. There's also free parking in the lot--although depending on the time you come it might take awhile to find an open spot. The service is super quick and the price has gone up over the years but it's still worth it because the food is so tasty and the portions are big! I typically order the chicken or beef kebab plates. You can't go wrong with either. The meat is always tender and cooked to the right point. They have delicious rice, a side salad, super good hummus and pita bread to go along with it. Every bite is so enjoyable and will fill you right up. There is very few seating outside the restaurant so it's mainly a grab and go place. There are some hand sanitizers available for customers to use. This restaurant is available for take outs and has some outdoor seating available with limited capacity. They are also sanitizing in between customers. While I was grabbing my food from this restaurant last month, I asked if they had any special offers and they weren't offering any at the moment. They currently don't have happy hour. They also do not allow pets in their restaurant. I am giving this place a one star because I was disappointed in their famous garlic spread. I was pissed when I put the spread all over my chicken and ate it because it smelled nasty. Like it was expired. I'm never coming back again. I've been seeing so much Mediterranean food pop up on social media and I was curious to try. This was recommended by my friend and im glad they did! It's quite a small restaurant, but they pump out food real quick. It took about 5 minutes after I placed my order it was in my hands. I got an order of beef and chicken. The base tray is rice, salad, hummus, side of pita bread, and the meat you get. The beef was cooked perfectly, it was super tender and flavorful. The chicken was a bit dry. I would definitely opt for the beef you decide to go! Although I do wanna try their lamb. I wonder if they'll let you do half and half meats? Man, I've been here for 3 years and didn't even know about this place. What a disservice to myself. Walked in the other day and the guy at the front desk was nice. Got the lamb plate, small humus, couple pita breads. Meat is tender, salad with dressing was bomb, hummus on point, pita fresh and not dry like somewhere else down the street. My friends and I decided to stop by here after visiting The Huntington for the first time. We wanted something light, quick, and satisfying. We went to the parking lot in the same plaza as the cafe, which offers free 90 minute parking. There's patio and inside seating available. My husband and I decided to share a beef and chicken kebab plate. Compared to other spots I've gone to, the portions are a bit smaller so it's definitely fit ideally for one person. It was just enough for my husband and I, but it was too little for my friend and her husband. The chicken breast was a little dry, and the beef was a bit chewy. Nonetheless, you get what you pay for, and because of the sizing of the plate, pricing is definitely reasonably cheaper than other spots. When I used the work in Pasadena, Med Café was the place to eat. Everyone in my building raved about it. When our building's lease ended, I was relocated to Alhambra. For 4 years, my co-workers and I reminisced about Med Café. We savored the memory of their delicious food. Some of us went out of there way to go back and visit. Well, recently, our job started providing lunches to our associates and tired of just dreaming of what once was, I went to Mediterranean Cafe and placed an order for 24 people. They were great! They remembered our place of work, they accommodated our order and had it ready shortly after opening. Needless to say the food was just as magnificent, as we remembered it. Everyone was so happy to enjoy a meal from Mediterranean Cafe once again. It was such a hit, we ordered from them again. This place is definitely worth the drive and the wait. The food and the service are both on point. Chicken Kabob, chicken shawarma, beef kabob...and that salad...drool worthy! And it's family owned...go support! Came here today and boy was it good! Place is great if you're in the rush because they get your food within 2 minutes! The greek salad was amazing. The beef kefta was a bit on the small and drier side but the hummus made up for it! I really wish the kefta was a bit bigger (or maybe it usually is but it was our first time here). January 2020 - We were doing some shopping in Pasadena and were craving some kabobs. We looked up the nearest kabob place and ended up here. This place is more of a takeout type of place but does have some seating. The meat, rice, and hummus were SO GOOD, especially for the price. The meat was tender and portion was decent. I split one plate with my shopping partner and we were both satisfied. The service was also friendly. BEWARE: We used our credit card to pay and a few days later there were over $100 worth of strange charges on our card for places we've never been to before. We let the card company know right away and had to wait a week for a new card to be issued. I would AVOID using card here. This was the only place this specific credit card was used at within the last few days of the fraud charges so just wanted to share our experience. read more

What can I say? This place has been around for ages! And I can see why, their food is delicious, tender meat, high quality ingredients, and excellent service. I stopped by the other evening for a chicken schawarma wrap and I was transported back to 20 years ago when I would regularly order shawarma wraps here. This is place is a gem is I compare all shawarma places too and and often find myself disappointed. But I'm never disappointed with Med Cafe. Went around 1pm on a weekday to miss the lunch rush. I was able to walk right up and order. The food was ready right away. Parking was a bit difficult considering how big the lot is, but eventually managed to get a spot. The only thing that was meh was that my lamb kabob was really dry and hard. The plate came with a lot of rice, hummus, one pita and Salad. I would have preferred more pita and less rice...it felt like the rice was a filler and I didn't have enough pita to eat the hummus. I'll come back to try the steak next time, but definitely skip the lamb ($15+tax). read more

This is my go to for chicken Shawarma plates in my area. The chicken has great flavor and is tender for chicken shawarma. I am so grateful for the generous portions of chicken that are provided each time I go. I hope that this restaurant can maintain this standard because it's a rarity and just so cool! The chicken is on top of a generous portion of tasty rice that tastes like it's been in chicken stock. The dish is served with a salad with a tart dressing that adds acidity to the balance of the tastes. The hummus is one of my favorites out of all the Mediterranean places I've been to. Most places either are bland or leave a weird after taste for me. The flavor is this hummus is out of this world and has me craving more! I am very grateful that upon request, you provide extra garlic spread free of charge because the one small container provided with the dish is not enough for the big plate of food. I think I actually prefer their beef kebabs more than the chicken shawarma. I think the chicken shawarma is a bit too dry. Although it taste okay once you add everything together but by itself and even when you eat the whole thing together as a whole, you can still feel that it's a bit dry to eat which is why I prefer the beef kebabs more. I think anything chicken related, I would say that Zankou is the sole winner of it all. With that said, I love their salad, rice and garlic sauce(especially their garlic sauce). I think the outside seating is a bit too dirty..?I saw a lot of bugs flying around...could just be that day ? The parking is pretty awful during peak hours. I would still recommend Mediterranean Cafe more often than not...I might say I prefer Zankou just a little more though. read more
