Kolaches are one of my favoriteeee breakfast pastries, and I had been dying to find a spot in San Antonio that could compare to one of my favorite kolache spots in Houston, and I think I have found it! I stopped by one Saturday morning after I had gone grocery shopping and grabbed a poppy seed kolache and potato and egg kolache. THey were nicely filled. THe poppy seed had a nice, sweet flavor with the cool granular texture of the poppy seeds to provide a nice contrast. To me, one of the important things about a kolache - THE DOUGH. ANd I think this place does a pretty good job of capturing the chew that you need and the hint of sweetness to stand up to the sweet or savory flavors of the fillings. It's located in one of the shopping complexes off of Huebner and has plenty of parking. If you're looking for a solid kolache fix, then I highly recommend this place! read more

I decided to stop here before starting my long journey back home to California, and I am so glad that I did. The owner greeted me and assembled an assortment of a dozen of his favorites. You're missing out if you haven't been here yet! My favorite weekend breakfast. Grab a couple of kolaches, a cup of hot coffee and have a great day. My husband swears this is the best coffee. It was our usual family Saturday, when my family meets for breakfast. We were going to have breakfast tacos, but I decided we needed a sweet treat to end our meal. I was checking out bakeries on Yelp and Kolache Shop came up. I've enjoyed sweet and savory kolaches before, but never anything from here. Looking at their site, the fruit flavors looked delicious and knew this was the place to try out. I got there around 7:30 and found myself to be the only one there. I was immediately greeted when I entered the shop and took a moment to figure out what to get. I told the gentleman behind the counter that I would probably be getting a mixture of fruit and fruit/cream cheese kolaches. He let me know that I would get a 10% discount with that "mixed" dozen. I think I pretty much had a taste of each one I had bought (cherry/cream cheese, raspberry, apple pie, Nutella, Apricot, and blueberry). I would give each of the flavors two thumbs up. The dough part came out soft and the fruit part was well represented with a not overly sweet topping. The Apple pie flavor was the most complex and was much like what you would expect in a pie, only small, diced apples instead of large chunks. I'm curious to taste their lunch kolaches and will be back soon to give my taste buds what will certainly be a treat. read more

I actually ache that I am in San Angelo a mere week after having first tried Kolache Stop. We had just come from Virginia to visit San Antonio on our way to San Angelo. Near us in Washington, DC, there is a food truck called the Republic Kolache... bringing the greatness of Texas northward. I sent my husband to Kolache Stop and he brought home a meatball, a sausage, a jalapeño-sausage-cheese, and a beef BBQ. As I write this, I count the days until I visit San Antonio again... 10 days. We had the meatball first: unbelievable! The meatballs (absolute fave!) were meaty without filler and the sauce was flavorful without being too sweet or acidic. Next, we had the sausage. It will definitely serve you in a Kolache emergency, but I would not get it again- just too salty. Then was the BBQ. Dudes! On our drive to TX, we ate BBQ in VA, TN, MS and TX. MS was by far the best--hands down; sorry, Texas. But this beef BBQ was the best we've had in Texas. Second favorite Kolache. I think the sausage and cheese stuffed jalapeño Kolache was my husband's favorite, but I thought the flavors competed too much. I love rich cheese with a spicy pepper or salty, fatty sausage with a chili bite, but all three was conflicting. 10 days, baby. read more

Great place to get a quick snack. Unlike kolaches from other stores, the ones I've gotten from here have the right proportions between the bread and the meat or filling. The dough is tasty as well. The cream cheese they use has a very strong sweet taste to it which I like a lot. The lunch kolaches I've tried are good across the board with the BBQ Beef being my favorite. The chocolate chip cookies are really delicious and for the size of them, they're a cheap steal too. With the wide variety on the menu and the extremely friendly service, this place has an exceptionally high revisit value, whether it be for breakfast or lunch. read more

One fine 11-ish o'clock morning, a co-worker text me and said they were on this side of town and were willing to grab us both some lunch on their way back. I asked if they were willing to stop here to which he thankfully said 'of course!'. I browsed through their online menu and they seemed to have a decent variety of goodies available. I text my friend back and requested an egg, bacon, and cheese kolache and a cinnamon twist. No, I had no idea what the difference was between their cinnamon twists, cinnamon rolls, or their cinnamon loaf... I just had a craving for something cinnamon and the 'twist' jumped out at me. That 'splains it!" LOL So I ended up ordering 1 strawberry and 1 blueberry cream cheese kolache and an egg, sausage, and cheese. I ended up with 2 strawberry cream cheese kolaches when the food got dropped off. Its hard to find Kolaches in San Antonio. Don't get fooled by the rock they serve in Krispe Kreme they serve in the name of Kolaches...This place is Kolaches Heaven. I visit them twice a week, their kolaches are soft (as they warm it up before they serve), their coffee is so amazing...i also got theit coffee mug, so the refills costs less. The best is their cream cheese kolaches...(you know me, i love anything creamcheese, wish they have cream cheese in hell, its supposed to be bad, isnt it....) I love their Omlette Kolaches too...They also have different varieties of hot sauce, which adds yum to the kolaches....wish i can digest food, Straight Through Processing, so i can eat non-stop. read more

Delicious kolaches...the dough is fluffy, but not flaky, baked to perfection. The first rounds come out around 7am and there are meat/egg or fruit options. The egg and bacon are nicely filled out with melty cheese throughout. The fruit kolaches are strawberry, blueberry, raspberry and can be had with cream cheese or without. Second round kolaches come out around 10:30 and are lunch worthy. If you are running errands and don't have a lot of time you can eat them on the go. Kolache stop has free wifi and a deli style interior. Plenty of selection at 8 am, but later in the day the more sparse the choices. read more

It's important to put out there that San Antonio is seriously lacking kolache options in the town. That being said, I think the reviews are based on a lack of variations. I grew up in Houston and where a taco is to SA, a donut or kolache is to them. You see them on every dang corner. A polish delicacy, the kolache is the staple of breakfast items in South Texas. I ordered the ham and cheese, the sausage and cheese and the eggs, sausage and cheese kolaches. Got a cinnamon roll for the kid. The ham and cheese uses cheddar (usually Swiss), the sausage is a link and not a smaller, little Smokie, and the eggs were decent.. But lacking in flavor. Here is my biggest issue.. The dough. It seems (my opinion only) that they used the pillsbury biscuit dough, rolled it out and baked it. It lacks the doughy, fluffiness that kolaches are famous for. It should be equal parts meat and dough. Here is meat with a flat dough. If you as the owner are reading this, I highly implore you to start making the dough with a proper yeast. Honey butter goes a long way on the crust too. The cinnamon roll was much better, than the kolaches. This you can tell is freshly made by hand, and the bread is airy with a lovely basting of cinnamon and sugar. 3 star for originality in a town of tacos.. As other reviews have said, if you've had real kolaches, these wont hit the spot. That being said, the dough is good, but they left a lot to be desired. Bf and I got the omelet kolache, sausage egg and cheese, sausage patty egg and cheese, and chorizo and egg. One of the things I love most about kolaches is that the ones with cheese are gushing with tons of piping hot cheese... Not the case here. Cheese was minimal. I literally could Not tell that there was cheese in my kolaches at all. Such a bummer. For the sweet kolaches, we got the plain cream cheese (as recommended by our cashier) and the poppyseed and honey, which I read about in a previous review and were not labelled but available. The cream cheese was much too sweet, but the poppyseed version is a gem! Very unique, subtly sweet, bursting with poppyseeds! I'm not a Kolache expert and I don't claim to be, especially I never heard of Kolache until I got to TX. Anyways, the only other Kolaches I had were from Shipley, and to me, Kolache is just a hot dog in a bun, nothing special about it. However, one of my coworker is a big fan of Kolache and to celebrate her work anniversary, I decided to get our team a dozen Kolache and this is the only place that is close to me (about 7 miles) that isn't Shipley. I got 6 Sausage/Cheese, and 6 Sausage/Cheese/Jalapeno. The girl worked the front is friendly and fast, and even told me how to heat it up (15 secs for individual, and 1 min for the entire box). As for the Kolache, instead of the wiener dogs like from Shipley, it is a real sausage with flavors, and it tasted great, super yummy. I have to say, I'm glad my coworker insisted getting Kolache, or else I would never had try the real thing. read more
