He and his wife Marissa were so friendly, and they didn't seem to mind stopping their work to sell us just a pound of coffee. They sell at the local Farmer's Market, and perhaps some of the others on the island. The coffee is really, really good! We like to grind our own beans, because we love the strong, complex flavor from freshly ground beans; and if you buy them straight from the farmer, how much fresher can that be? I remember as a girl going with my mother to buy eggs from Bloom's Egg Farm, and fresh milk from the Thorsen's, who had a dairy. This was about as good as it gets. Mahalo nui, Ed and Marissa.

Killino Farms is Hawaii the way you want it. Lush, quiet, a view of the sunset, and convenient to…read moreshopping and coffee shops. It is local, not touristy. So you won't get all that fake plastic junk that smells foofy. Instead you will get REAL 100% Kona coffee beans, fresh fruit, lush flowers, and geckos. You will hear frogs at night, and roosters in the morning, mid morning you will hear chickens making those cute chicken sounds. You will see Daisy the dog running through the grass following her trusty master Todd. This is a working farm people, so there is work for the family to do. Sitting on the lanai having fresh coffee in the mornings and then having a beer in the afternoon is all great. There is a grocery store about 10 minutes north that has everything you want, and there are also local places to eat. Two step is a close drive, Captain Cook and Kealakakua Bay are a nice drive and a town where you can, if you want, get foofy things. Volcanoes NP is 1.5 hours away. Note: be patient driving down the driveway!! GO 5MPH or you can do some damage to your rental car. You will bounce around if you go any faster than 5mph. Todd was a great host and was easily accessible by text. He will take you on a tour of the farm (which I highly recommend) and make sure you are comfortable and set in your rental. Located in Captain Cook, the Royal Kona Coffee Company is a quaint roadside stop that, while not a…read moremust-see, was mildly engaging. First off, there is plenty of parking and there are also several clean bathrooms. As you meander up the ramp into the Reddish wooden building, you can see the ocean. As you walk further up into the building, there is a coffee sample station with many coffees and teas to try. 100% Kona Dark-Medium roast is delish. There's a small gift shop and coffee museum as well. The gift shop was underwhelming and the museum is small but informative. The folks working here are pleasant. The coolest part of this stop is the Lava Tube that you can walk through. You just need to walk down the stairs from the visitor center and follow the signs for the Lava Tube. It's a little bit of a hilly walk, so be prepared. The tube itself is short, but it is neat to see. There is no cost to visit this place which is a plus. So, if you're in the area, definitely stop by, but I wouldn't make a long trip or go out of your way to visit this place. Mahalo.

Names, events and even basic royal history questions were not answered...only empty smiles with oh- there is so much history here...sadly they didn't know hardly any of it. I even asked about the hula group that teaches there, again no idea. They need to train the volunteers to actually know something about the place where they are volunteering.

Hulihe'e Palace is a beautiful piece of Hawaii history museum that sits in downtown Kailua-Kona…read more This palace was built in 1838 for Hawaiian royalty stayed here, in 1973 it was place on the national register of historic places, it was originally built out of lava rocks, the lava rocks fance today still secure the palace. The museum has lot's of priceless artifacts like furiture photos quilts and other cultural Items. I was sad because it was close on the day we dock there, a good reason to come back to Kona.
