History

Established in 1926.

Bereits 1891 machte sich Hugo Richter als Lebküchler in Münchberg selbstständig. Friedrich Richter, der älteste von drei Söhnen, die alle den Beruf des Konditors erlernten, kam 1926 nach Michelau. Aus dem gekauften Café König wurde das Café Richter, das Sohn Heinz 1951 nach seiner Meisterprüfung übernahm. 1981 erbaute er die heutige Konditorei Richter am Zolltorplatz, die nun seine Tochter Petra zusammen mit ihrem Mann Harald Salewsky leitet. Beide tragen den Meistertitel und sind stets bemüht die alte Familientradition mit neuen Methoden und Erkenntnissen weiterzuführen.

We had strawberry/pear croissants, sugar croissants, and some great rolls. They also sell coffee, tea and other drinks like bottled water, and there are some high top tables that you can stand at to eat if you want. They didn't speak much English, but we managed to communicate just fine. Definitely stop here if you get the chance!

We ate an Apple pie with a nut crust. Tasted good, but not as good as their Rhubarb pie, as this one was a touch too dry due to the fact that the pie is mostly crust and very little apple. However, I would still sit here and watch people and have some coffee and depending on their offerings, a pie.
