Kooper's Chowhound Gourmet Burgers at Vocus Split today's $13 Chef's Special- Ground Short Rib and Brisket, Bibb Lettuce, Tomato, Knobb Creek Caramelized Onions, Sharp Provolone, Roasted Red Pepper Aioli served on Brioche with Fries (Regular, Sweet Potato and Truffle*) I like that their beef is somewhat locally sourced (NJ). The burger was amazing. Almost rivaled Ray's Hellburgers in Arlington. Truly could not distinguish the difference between Wagyu and the Short Rib/Brisket mix, other than it was good. The toppings were fresh delicious accompaniment. But the brioche bun was cut thick on the bottom which did not lend well to a balanced burger. And then the fries experiment- 2 stars out of 5 and they came out lukewarm (fail). Sweet potato fries (if you like them, I do) were definitely the better of the three with a sweet caramelized crunch. Regular fries were unfortunate and chewy. With scattered clumps of chopped parsley and uncooked garlic, the truffle fries, while smelling heavenly, turned out to be a disappointment. They had that regular fry chew and not much truffle flavor. The staff was friendly and they do take credit cards now. I'd definitely go back for a burger and Sweet Potato fries. This wagon has the BEST burgers ever. I love this truck Whenever i see it around I always stop to grab me something. It is a bit pricey but you pay for what you get. The staff on the wagon are very friendly and funny. My first time trying it I was afraid I'd get sick because its a food truck. I have NEVER gotten sick from this truck. I just wish they were around more as I cannot always get to Koopers tavern and crave those burgers often. You must try their bacon cheeseburger and fries. It will have you hooked from the first bite. They also open at night with a dj and it is a pretty decent atmosphere. If you are not paying attention you can walk right pass it and miss it. If i remember correctly It has a lot of steps so do not get too drunk or you may fall down. read more

Definitely a fan! So, the Chowhound truck AND a cupcake truck were right near my work today, so it was a perfect time for my coworkers and I to try both. I got the MacGuiness burger (bacon cheeseburger), and the fifty-fifty fries (half regular, half sweet potato) for $11. It was really good food, and a lot of it, I couldn't finish the burger, but the fries were so good I just finished them anyway. There's a few burgers on the menu, and then you can make your own burger (4 different choices... beef, turkey, veggie, or bison) and multiple different toppings, cheeses, and sauces to use. Stopped by for Food Truck Thursday at the Odenton VFD. Chose the bison burger. It was delicious. Flavorful and juicy, which can be an issue as bison can easily dry out with its lower fat content than beef. The burger was perfectly cooked. The fries were hot and crispy with a generous serving. I'd have liked to have tried the sweet potato fries, but they were sold out. Service was friendly and efficient for a food truck. Took a little time to get food, but they were busy and the burger was cooked to order, so no complaints from me. Some have indicated it is pricey, but I did not think it was bad at all for what they served. Worth it, in my opinion. read more

Burgers tasted pretty good. I gotta appreciate the size of them although they didn't ask me how i wanted it cooked which should be a big thing if your main food is burgers. However they are pretty convenient when they are around. Some of their locations are not too far from my job, and it didn't take that long at all. For the time being they didn't except cards :-/ which is not cool for me never carrying cash. they will get a better rating when they add that and decide that I do care how my burger is cooked. My favorite food truck! I feel quite fortumate that the Chowhound stops at UMB every Wednesday. Now, I can't say that stop by every Wednesday, but I manage to get my burger fix pretty frequently. It was love at first bite when I tried the Elvis Got the Blues burger. The burgers here are cooked well done, but they are still juicy and flavorful. And bleu cheese and bacon? Seriously the greatest combination! I like to finish off my burger experience with the sweet potato fries. They're delicious and for $2 you get a ton! The service here is great. The guys who run the truck are really nice and you get a punch card. Free burger after you buy 10! Not impossible, trust me. If you are stopping at the Chowhound while it's at UMB, sometimes the area is a bit dicey, even at lunchtime. That being said, the guys who run the truck are very adamant that they don't want anyone harrassing their customers, which I appreciate. Another added bonus - this truck is great workout motivation. If I don't make it to the gym in the morning and I get Kooper's, I'm totally motivated to go after work! But the burger and fries are totally worth it! read more

Their food truck was at the Samuel Adams Brew & View last weekend. I'm not sure which burger(s) he's eaten, but my husband said that their burgers weren't really "the best in Baltimore." We therefore passed on those as there was another burger truck right next to it. However, I got the sweet potato fries and truffle fries, as well as a pickle. The pickle was okay, nothing special. The flavors of the fries were good, though the truffle one was more subtle and oftentimes dominated by garlic, which made the $5 price tag a bit steep (-1 star). I'm also happy that there were no burnt fries in the bunch. Unfortunately, though, while the fries might have started out crunchy, there was a really small window for this (-1 star), perhaps because they paper-bagged each individually, and then wrapped them both up in yet another bag. By the time we walked back to the other side of the (small) park where we were seated, steam rising from the fries made the act of opening one of the bags rip it. That same steam made the fries get soggy rather quickly... They should really reconsider their packaging method. In unrelated news, their website says that the truck comes to some fun-looking events, so I might keep tabs on their website just for that. :P Their home page picture also implies that they cater for weddings, if you're looking for that kind of thing. read more

Wasn't too impressed with the burger. They need a sauce or something to give it the oomph it's missing. The fries were okay but again they sweet potato fries needed a sauce in order for them to be enjoyed thoroughly. I'll stick to 5 guys and Z burger. read more

Quite possibly one of the worst burgers I've had ... I can't for the life of me understand how these "gourmet" burger offerings popping up everywhere these days seem to get away with the deplorable "fixings" that accompany their burgers - both in quality & quantity. I ordered a burger & fries from the chuck wagon and got a big, somewhat dry burger with a 1/2 millimeter thin piece of leaf lettuce on top that was immediately wilted and browed from the hot burger and about a 1/2" "dab" of the specialty sauce I ordered for my burger. I just don't get these places - they fail MISERABLY at the easiest part of making a burger - the basics. I went to the Nautilus Diner a while back (they have about 2000 items on their menu) and orderd a burger. 1/2" thick slices of tomato and onion, THICK slabs of perfectly cooked bacon, and a an inch-thick chunk of crisp, iceberg lettuce. Without tasting the burger, it looked IMMEDIATELY appealing while Chowhound and many of their competitors look immediately APPALLING. If you can't even get the basics right, why even bother? One word to these guys - FUDDRUCKERS. Go and check out their fixings bar ... it's a HUGE part of their success. CHOWHOUND? TWO miserable thumbs down. read more

I stopped short of 5 stars, and it's really more of a 3 1/2. The burgers here are delicious and never overcooked. The prices are just a little bit steep for what you get. I feel like for a burger alone, I shouldn't have to pay more than $7 unless I'm at a place like Abby's Burger Bistro. That being said, I still fork out $8 or $9 because these burgers destroy any lunchtime quick service alternative. I'm never disappointed with anything I order, and the service is friendly. read more

Wow, I ordered their veggie burger, expecting to get the usually, frozen patty that tastes like textured vegetable protein. They do veggie burgers gourmet too! This was the best veggie burger I have ever had. Great service, yummy food and the fries are awesome too. Definitely recommend them and will eat from the food truck again. read more

Went to Koopers last night to enjoy Labor Day weekend with my husband. We sat upstairs and immediately felt welcome and cool with the bartender Yusef. He was so funny friendly and polite. The food was good I had the lamb burger, but Yusef's personality definitely made our experience memorable. Koopers Tavern has good food and great bartenders for sure! Thanks Yusef next time hopefully you will be there to make us laugh when we stop in. read more

It's not that it was a bad burger...its really more of a hype issue. For instance, the price is 8 dollars for just a regular burger that you can customize with toppings. Its billed as the best in B-more (actually voted on as the best?) but really? And the verdict: I've had better, and truly gourmet style burgers elsewhere downtown such as Burger Abbey Bistro and the Gypsy Queen's. To further drive the point, if I was given the option of eating a Wendys burger or Koopers truthfully I'd go with Wendys cause its just as good and would be way cheaper. Bottom line: you'll have a rather overrated, lackluster burger experience with these guys. But if you're into hype then they'll do just fine for ya. read more

There aren't many burger places here downtown (except for the McD's or BK's junk), so give credit to the Chowhound for showing up on the streets of Baltimore. Quite a choice of meats, including Turkey and a Veggie burger. Haven't had the Kobe burger, and I'm not a fan of the bison meat (as this isn't the 1870's), but the meat is good and I thought it was okay to get the beef cooked medium. The menu is easy to read and very helpful compared to most food trucks, who assume you know what each entree is. As a picky eater, I REALLY like to know what the heck I'm ordering. They get quite a line sometimes, and one time I had to wait for a bit but it was under 10 minutes. After ordering I only had to wait five minutes or so for the food. The person who took the order was nice and patient for someone who was a first-timer. Tasted good and was served hot, with my choice of toppings. Some do cost extra, though. I had fries the first time and was able to share them as it was a large order. All in all, a good alternative downtown, and I will return, and got a card which after 10 visits you get a free burger. read more

I decided to give Chowhound food truck a try today. Thinking the Wagyu burger with sautéed mushrooms, grilled onions, and spicy chipotle could not go wrong? Well, it did and it was very unfortunate. The burger smelled great and juicy inside. However, it was very bland and tasteless. What about the sautéed mushroom and grilled onions? Mushroom was sautéed in whole as if they were too lazy to slice it. Grilled onion? I called it boiled onion. Another one to avoid next time. read more

I've been to a lot of food trucks but this one really takes the cake. I've tracked this truck down a bunch of times and never been disappointed. The burgers are amazing, but the PICKLES. Holy lord! If you find this truck, order a pickle! They are really crispy and tart, perfect. Koopers also has sweet potato fries, and you can even order half regular fries and half sweet potato. It is a killer combo. The only problem is it is cash only, so make sure you hit the bank first. read more

Yes, it is so good with grilled 100% Angus Burger, fresh cut lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, yellow mustard, and provolone cheese on a soft bun. Let's just say it was love at first food truck with Chowhound Burger for you have given me the freedom to build my own burger without any restraint or judgment. My resolution for the new school year is to go to the gym between classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays - now that I know Chowhound is on the JHU campus Tuesday afternoons I'll have the perfect post-workout reward. I love food trucks, and this one delivers burgers in endless combinations. I chose a turkey burger with avocado, swiss cheese, tomatoes, grilled onions and honey mustard. It hit the spot - a lot of turkey burgers are too dry, but this one was great. I'm so glad they're around to liven up the Charles Village lunch scene. My biggest point for improvement is the bun: the fluffy potato buns really don't hold up to the bulky burgers, and by the time I was 3/4's of the way done, the bun was a squished, soaked remnant. Thankfully, the contents of the burger were delicious enough to keep going without a bun. Might I suggest a whole wheat kaiser roll or something a little hardier? To do list for next tuesday: veggie burger and 50/50 fries (half sweet potato, half regular). read more

Good but cooking is inconsistent. I get the same order every time with minor variations, and the burgers vary from medium (terrific) to well done (unimpressive). I think it's an issue of timing - they start burgers cooking to deal with the lunch rush and sometimes they get a little too done while waiting for orders. If they could get the cooking a little more consistent I'd make a point of going more often. read more

Cannot recommend the $16 rockfish burger at all. It's ground, so there's no opportunity to really taste the rockfish, but then it's breaded in flour and fried on the grill and you can really taste the raw flour on the unfried edges, which is just awful. Fries weren't great either. read more

Baltimore's Best Burger's are now on the road! Good Burger but $9 is a little high for a burger that should atleast include chips or fries or a drink. The burger was so good that I'll definently be visiting the burger truck next time it's in my work area. read more
